I am LITERALLY about to go into my first exam lesson (I mean...in about ten minutes O.o) This video really cleared up all my uncertainties regarding certain things - I thank you immensely!
Movement of air from the atmosphere to the lungs is VENTILATION. RESPIRATION is divided into two. EXTERNAL RESPIRATION AND INTERNAL RESPIRATION. External respiration is the exchange of gases from the alveoli and the blood. Internal respiration is the exchange of gases from the blood and the cells.
The Buteyko Method which goes into the importance of CO2 and how to change your breathing for the better by reducing and ending silent hyperventilation can be researched on the Internet. You can also hear and see interviews with Buteyko educators on YOutube by putting in Barnett Weiss on the search window. THe organization Buteyko Breathing Educators Association is acting to standardize the education of others about this method.
Carbon Dioxide is not a waste gas. It is even more important than oxygen. there is no entity on this planet that can live without CO2 and many can live without Oxygen. Every cell in your body makes and uses CO2. The Bohr effect explains the process by which O2 is released from the hemoglobin by the adequate presence of CO2. Breathing is prompted not by the amount of oxygen that is circulating, it is prompted by the amount of CO2 circulating in order to maintain the proper PH of the blood.
Great Great Job, Keep up the Great work thank you...Peace, and by the way your voice is great, dont think about the negetive comment those people make about your voice, you're a great teacher.
Just a word of caution.. This is an excellent video for the most part, but if you are using it for revision purposes there is one error that you need to be aware of. Around the end of the third minute it says that the alveolar surface/capillary is 'where respiration takes place'. Respiration is a chemical process that happens in all of our cells. I think what she meant was gaseous exchange. This is a really common error and one which costs points in many exams!
The definition of respiration you give here is the of biochemical one, also called internal respiration, which is related to oxidative phosphorylation of nutrients. However physiologists also use the term but in a different regard. Here it is used to describe the process of transporting atmospheric oxygen to the mitochondria. Still I agree with you, that gas exchange would be more correct in this actual context, because what happen is a delivery of CO2 and uptake of O2 by RBC.
@notgeoffrey some examination board will accept EXTERNAL respiration as opposed to INTERNAL respiration that takes place in cells. But gas exchange is a safer answer i agree.
she mentioned "cover of the respiratory system and functions" OR :"summary" of the system, does not really necessary detailed unless if shes giving lessons to University students. Its simple and it did help for students who are just reviewing it or to help them remember heir past human anatomy and physiology
I was a student of this person and she taught High School. Meaning that this was all BASIC anatomy. Her job was to cover BASIC functions of the human body parts and teach how all of the organs in the body work together to make the body function. Don't forget that at one point you too were a "simple high school student" and you started out learning the basics like this too.
the other main function of respiratory system is to humidify the the oxygen we breath from the nose.. oxygen is one of the heaviest gases known, and taking in pure oxygen into the system will kill us..
absolutly love it
