I think the West offers more prosperity and freedom than Russia. How does the rest of Europe see Russia, as a threat or simply an energy supplier that, like a spoiled child, needs to be appeased?
Good neighborly relations are necessary for peace, but what is Russia offering Ukraine as a guarantee of peace? Hopefully not the same thing it offered Georgia - Russian passports.

ukraine needs NATO in order not to be pushed around by russia, but europe and the world economy need russian energy so they cant anger russia by inviting ukraine in now...

I think Ukraine like other ex-soviet block countries put their trust in the usa and it is so sad. The true motives of the bush administration are now being revealed.
