Hey David. I finally got my Axe II in, and hooked it up to my Atomic cabinet. Sounds, of course, are pretty awesome. I think I may need to look into using 2 Atomics, as some of the high gain settings generate some massive lows! That's tough on one 12" Speaker!
I'm commenting here to commend your continuing efforts on YouTube in offering some intelligent light on playing and gear. I like how you don't let the haters get to you. It's likely the only gear they're playing on is a laptop anyway.
Boutique tubes are awesome for sure. I think a lot of people are looking for exact replicas of amps and effects in machines such as the Axe. I think they are different too, just a different type of tool... Neither better or worse, just different in my opinion. :-)
Your opinion is correct, myself included no one wants to carry around those heavy transformer filled boutique tube amps and their maintenance costs... AXEFX is easier, and high tech etc.but the multi harmonic timbre of a vacume tube is pure magic in the right hands. To each his own of course, You sound great.I am having a stereo boutique amp made when I do I want you to listen to the demo I will post. Not better, different, its a taste thing,I wish I could do it lighter :)
I had an Atomic Reactor cab myself. They are awesome for players like me who love to play with digital processors. Even though they were made for use with the Axe FX II, they work awesome with any multi-effects processor IE POD, Digitech RP series ETC
how do you get over the fact that you don't have a natural tube amp playing through this? It bothers me so much that I wouldn't have a tube amp playing.
@JDNDVS Thanks so much! You can use any cabs with it, but it's recommended to use soe that won't color your sound. I picked those because I got a killer deal on Ebay. :-)
Why cabinets vs wedges? Just curious. It's hard to judge with your cameras mic and my MacBook's tiny-winy speakers but I believe it does sound properly at the low end. I'm paling it for Line6 HD500. Thanks for the video.
@Wallimann I know that the axe fx is capable of metal tones alone but arent the atomic reactors causing a bottleneck effect?? I know they are more mellow amps...
@nemogre No, they are just very flat which is good in this case. All the tones from the Axe are reproduced very accurately without being altered by any EQ...
@Wallimann OK i get it...the atomic reactors are not colouring the tone in any way...they are just there to bring to axe fx tone to life without the use of a computer or monitors or whatever...they are like self-amplified cabinets in stead of using some other power amp and cabs... sorry for bugging you xaxax thnx for aswering
@Wallimann is it true that the evolution shows when u plays sloppy , because i ve a pretty good technique but im still learning and also is the evo got a good enough clean sonud?
@jesusgnr12 I was just turning the knobs through the factory preset as I shot the video. Can't remember what it was but it was factory preset though...
For those of you, like me, who find this rig a bit too pricey, there is an alternate solution. I run a Lane 6 POD HD300 through a Tech 21 Power Engine 60, and I like it a lot. I have no way to compare it to Walliman's rig, but mine sounds great, it's very versatile, and it's a helluvalot less expensive than Walliman's :) If you are interested in going the amp-modelling route, you should give it a try.
Awesome rig! Hard to tell how it sounds, has about the same sound as playing Peavey Revavler through PC speakers lol. Sure it sounds awesome. Really gotta get some mics now. You could have such a killer sound with two cab mics and a room mic. Even just a room mic would probably be great for demoing. Happy for you because I know those sound great though.
Great tones there mate.. I actually came across you when Chappers liked one of your videos a few months back and im really glad it happened cuz your videos are always great, cheers Jase..
