  • Pretty much identical speed wise

  • I can chirp 1-2, and 2-3. gotta take that CDV valve out man.

  • @taran910 the camera is the 6speed... .you can hear him power shifting

  • I hate the fucking SMG transmission.

I used to own a M3 and the engine was solid but SMG was as weak as glass.

SMG kept breaking down all the time!!

GUYS! IF YOU BUY A M3, CHOOSE THE STICK SHIFT ONE!!!

    I'm speaking from my experience.

  • @057gnb3316sef6 AMEN....

  • @057gnb3316sef6 My m3 is SMG with 97 000 miles and It hasn't even had a relay replaced.

  • @057gnb3316sef6 you bought a shitty smg and dont know how to drive your car. ive went to many tracks with my smg m3 always beats a manual. and ive never had any problems with the smg. Bmw also gives you warrentys on that smg transmission so if anything goes wrong they will fix it. just face it you bought an abused smg transmission and then you abused it so it broke on you, just as eazy to blow a manual tranny as it is an smg. one bad shift and your grinding the cinkcros.

  • which one is manual and which is SMG ?

  • must of been going atleast 130

  • @breck569 the video is 49 seconds long they passed 130 around 20 seconds

  • @breck569 yes sir 5th gear starts about 136mph.. & i cant tell if they hit 6th but shit.. 5th only goes up to 174 lol damn.

  • Smg is for my granfather...manual is for very driver

  • wow, how fast did you guys end up going?

  • lolll smg 2 in the e46 m3 is almost heavenly..i luv manual but cannot compete with the smg becasue the shift is so quick

  • Camera is in the manual car, the shift was slow from an SMG. From a roll both cars are equal with a slight nod to the SMG if it is in s5 or S6 mode. From a dig the SMG is better then most drivers, very good drivers can beat a US spec SMG car from a dig. Euro cars with the higher rev on launch control should be able to beat any human.

  • Real men shift with stick

  • SMG SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! STICK 4 ever!!!!!!

  • @Hakob100 FU** THE AUTOMATIC!!!

  • Those are two same engines, same shifting principle except one is shifted by computer, other by driver... Doesnt matter who wont, both will have to change clutch jk xD

  • Hättest den DSC auschalten solln dan kannst du noch mal ein balken die schalt geschwindigkeit erhöchen dan geht die post ab beim schalten

  • Turkish Pilote ;)

  • so who won? and u guys were flooring it for so long u must have topped out at some point, cool race gott a lil too close a couple times

  • driving way too close..

  • helal olsun

  • I would just get both manual and smg, if i had the money...why settle for just one m3?

  • Own a e46 smg m3 I love it I do a lot of driving in town in bumper to bumper traffic and she is perfect then & when I get out on the open road I can still have some fun driving with flappy paddles or tiptronic. I've driven the latest e92 d-ct and they wipe the floor with the smg gearbox and manual's by far best car ever driven

  • smg is way better than a manual, double clutch down shifts perfectly for you, and you never miss a shift. Although manuals are funnier to drive :)

  • @integraballa97 wait are you sure the M3 has double clutch?

  • @integraballa97 The SMG on the E46 is single clutch and doesn't shift perfectly, especially in the upshifts if you don't life off the clutch the car boggs down to give time to the gearbox to do the change. The double clutch was implemented in the newer one.

  • Computer vs the Human! Pretty much even..

  • Kac gittiniz orda? Super ses super video! Helal olsun!

  • helal olsun

  • Fucking gay, fucking terrorist gay!

  • So which one was the manual?

  • i am glad i bought my e46 m3 with a manual 6 speed gear box :) i drove both and i just didnt care for the smg II. it took the fun out of driving a sports car for me

  • i am glad i bought my e46 m3 with a manual 6 speed gear box :) i drove both and i just didnt care for the smg II. it took the fun out of driving a sports car

  • @M335 Why? Traffic = smg is better.

  • For everyday driving the manual gearbox is better but then again who buys a BMW M3 for practicallity and comfort and if you do then you're an idiot... It's a sports car so get the sports gearbox. SMG II all the way!!!!!1

  • what an awesome race!

  • CrAzy TuRKish GuYs :D hahahaha

  • put the window up reduce drag inside the car....

  • türkiyemidir burası looo

  • After driving an e60 M5 with a smg, i now see why the germans constantly ask "Why the f**k do the Americans want a left petal".. the SMG is amazing.. coming from a person who has 4 manual cars...

  • @Owebaby11 Maybe this is just my youth talking, but driving for me isn't just about burying my foot into the gas. I find it fun to have the challenge of needing to pull off smooth heel-toe downshifts. It makes me feel more connected to the car and I get a better feeling when I take the correct line through a turn because I knew that I had to balance so much more than the guy in front of me who just had to click a button.

  • @SimplyJoeboe I would agree with you, but pushing a button, and downshifting perfectly as you brake hard, and turn in is an incredible sight, and being able to get a perfect launch, a chirp in the transition from 1-2 and from 2-3 is crazy, and it will do it every single time. This is like the mac vs. Pc debate, everyone is right in their own sense...

  • @Owebaby11 Finally someone who used some emotion rather than the usual "well I shave 3/1000s of a second off my lap time" response =)

    Thanks for the insight

  • @SimplyJoeboe i would say at least 4/1000's... LOL

  • @Owebaby11 haha, everyone knows Macs are better....;)

  • @Owebaby11 Haha I just realize how old your comment is... Whoops

  • people this MOVIE IS FAKE...

  • @GentryT16

so are your testicles but not everyone complains about it on youtube, they move onto the next vid

  • @GentryT16 why?

  • That is amazingly close between the two!!

  • how fast did you guys go?

  • mrk o silber m3 düz vitesmi yoksa automatik mi?

  • SMG is good if you got a sore leg that day , yeah a sore left leg or joint , you can shift a manual with out using the clutch it is very hard to do, if you are precise and practice matching the engine speed , trans, and wheels speed your good, down shifts are possible to whit out dipping the clutch because of Syncro.

  • magandalar.

  • SMG is very good. Only thing bad about it is the overheating.

  • ben orda olcam o zaman bakin neler olcak hemde cabriomla dagitacagim onlari :)

  • The smg box is mint to drive, the m3 cabin looks shit with a stick shift and for comparing weight between the two your splitting hairs there, why not weigh the drivers and see whats in their boot while your at it

  • what kind of exhaust is dat sounds very nice im getting a 2003 e46 in a couple months

  • @MRHASHBLUNT That's the stock exhaust.

  • Damm.. where they both stock, or did one of them have an exhaust system?

  • SMG is the one you can see. The driver car is manual, I think.

  • the camera car is the manual and the other one is smg

  • does anybody know if theres a ipod plug for 04 E46 M3??

  • Search online for the kit. geez

  • hmmmmmmmmm wish someone would tell us which one is running the SMG II ive listened to this video loads of times but cant work it out other than that great video *Also i miss my M3 alloys now after watching this*

  • which one is smg???

  • this dude sucks at shifting

  • I love smg,

  • The SMG I and SMG II were not that good, they had lots of problems, they spin. The SMG III is Very Good.

  • Is the smg III in the m5 and m6?

  • I think so, but maybe they will be changing them to the new DKG (Double Klutch Gearbox)

  • @BIMMERMZB

"DCT" double clutch transmission which is what bmw call it also know volkswagen as "DSG"

  • Don't forget SMG weighs more and that's not good.

  • Hey cocksucker, you can write your fucking opinions, but DO NOT offened someone with your language.

Stick up SMG up in your arse.

  • redline you are mistaken. the smg incorporates the electro-hydrolic clutch which actually is more expensive and weighs more. "you sir must not know anything about BMW's"

  • @WhrsTheMoneyLabowski Other than sheer driving pleasure, there are many benefits to using SMG: * The life of the clutch, gearbox and drive line components are extended due to the precise control of clutch and gear actuation. * SMG uses less horsepower, provides better fuel efficiency, is lighter, less complex and cheaper to manufacture. * Since there is no clutch pedal, SMG reduces driver fatique

  • @redline619 stop talking absolute tushh please... go jump back in your 1.2 corsa and pretend u have an m3

  • Respond to this video... • @redline619 doesnt the smg create electronic problems down the line that would be more expensive to fix?

  • @redline619 but it increases vaginitous....a serious illness where the driver of a nice car such as an m3 has his dick removed and now has a gapping hole where his peepee used to be.....be a man and drive a 6 speed....smg is for twats

  • smg = boooring, no feal, for girls ! for everyday use ill stick with my manual gearbox, show us your skills and drive like a man

  • @redline619 I'd like to look at the bill from the dealer when the SMG is going to need repair or replacement compared to the bill for changing the clutch from the same place.

  • @redline619 How is the SMG lighter and less complex than a manual gear box with a clutch?

Isnt the SMG a manual box with an electronically controlled hydrolic clutch? The SMG is not cheaper to manufacture and thats why it cost 16k to replace when it blows. Where do you get your information?

  • @davconelectric smg is actually heavier if thats ur guys point lol owwn the car / do more research before putting ish out ~ & its more fragile with more moving parts to break contrary to popular belief, it puts unneeded stress on the car subframe / chassis 100x more

(not from quicker acceleration, from how acceleration comes in) than any competent stick driver while leaving you unsatisfied with your drives besides it gets people to smirk when you say 'paddles' in place of 'stick shift'..

  • @bmwdat1 That sounds about rite.

  • @bmwdat1 all e46 m3's are liable to the boot floor cracking because of the power they deliver and the way its put though the rear end, although fair play to BMW the change it free of charge if you cars bog standard even though its an 8 grand job, and takes about 2 weeks turnaround time, but SMG's are pure brilliance, from a standing start manual stick shift has no chance.

  • @benrungsell SMGs are more suspect for subframe wear for reasons such as launch control, & the way most people drive compared to majority of manual drivers, BMW no longer repairs the subframe for class action settlement term ended this past October, subframe repair costs greatly vary from sub $1000-$10000 i have heard. Have you been to a track or know any real race car driver / builder, SMG is more often slower on a track (with turns) because manual makes youu a better driver in every way..

  • @bmwdat1 i wasnt disagreeing with you :), yours was just the comment at the top and wanted to add my penny worth, however it is actually the boot floor that cracks and distort's not the subframe itself, but it is where the subframe mounts and diff mounts that it is most common, in england BMW are doing it free if your cars under 10 years old and completely standard, but i like the SMG its something a bit different and can be quicker than manual in a straight line if your good with it :)

  • @benrungsell very true they are faster in shifting in every facet, faster than humans blink nowadays for the matter, but there is a terrible staggering amount of overall control of the vehicle lost when the clutch lever is lost, im not disagreeing with you either; just the other dumb dumbs chiming in..

  • @bmwdat1 Lol you don't know what you are talking about. I drive a 03 M3 SMG and I overtake other M3's with ease. Manual doesn't make you a better driver in everyway.

  • @RumG0ne do you even know what heel toe-ing is..? do you actually know the real reason paddle shifts were invented and put into racing? have you ever had a rookie track day? do you have your racing license? do you even know what scca is? my guess would be a stern no by how you seem to chime in. any real driver fully understands the original concept of manual stick shift giving you full control over any vehicle, yes new flappy paddle gearboxes shift faster than your smart ass can blink but sry no

  • @bmwdat1 Yes I have. I have more miles on my M3 from track days than on street. I have a Group N Racing license and i've driven over 5+ Touring cars. You act like you're entitled as a better driver because you drive a manual. I know for a fact that I can do over 4-8 seconds over your M3. Besides shifting a M3 6MT from 1st to 2nd is garbage and you know that.

  • @RumG0ne yes all BMW M's have clunk, but do you know the reason why? ask a tech or do some research, everything in a M is the way it is for a reason, for benefit elsewhere, but i'll let you find that out for yourself & keep boasting

  • @bmwdat1 Lol not a M's have clunk. I've driven M5's M6's with manual and none of them have a clunk. Ohh thanks I like your pretty much stock M3! I'd have fun lapping you at the track!

  • @RumG0ne my M is kinda quick.. quicker than my FD3 but thats alright ill keep em to myself.. do you not wonder why i roll with shoppe cars and 1400 hp supras? M3 is no film car but either way faster or slower manual will make anyone a better driver than not driving it track or not.. more control is more control i do not know who wouldnt agree with that.. because you buy a viper does not mean your the best round a track, nor fastest; any 10 year vet will embarrass you in their spec miata..

  • @bmwdat1 Uhm, I know how to drive stick perfectly rev match, heel toe it's all basic crap. I know how to brake boost and everything else that has to do with a manual transmission. We are talking about us and not "others" with their spec miata's. You may roll with 1400hp supra's but they'd never let you drive it.

  • @WhrsTheMoneyLabowski hahaha someone who knows wtf they are talking about thank you sir lol

  • Man i always thought smg was slightly quicker, but i guess they are the same speed. Depends on how good of a driver u are too i guess..

  • ethier they pretty much the same speed. it just depends if u like shifting all the time or not. in MY opinion i like smg bcuz some days i dont like shift and i can jsut put into D. xP

  • Manual is the way you really drive a M3 :P

  • or any other sport car...

  • you say that cause you've never driven a smg

  • i drove both and i say it also, just the clutch makes u feel the car way better.. well smg is beter then automatic tho :)

  • @mreslan I've driven both and I can't stand the SMG. It's too restricted and I have no feel of the car. It's boring. Manual is the way to go.

  • nice. both stock? which one is what?

  • lol good question

  • my guess is the silver one is smg cause the guy doesnt look like he is shifting a manual
