  • look where he was living. Sad

  • god bless you...the revolution will never be televised.

  • SOPA

  • THe last greap political poet in the black community. That is it. No one else is even close to being in his class. THe greatest artistic loss to our community in the last half century.

  • Thank You Gil.

  • Yes, good man - to good for us - but he was good for us - thanks

  • aww, love him

  • The time is now and we will all have to fight to keep our freedoms against Obama and the planned new world order. It isn't about racism anymore. It's about the total enslavement of mankind by the illuminati.

  • @sqweezel AMEN.

  • what is there to dislike here? fools

  • WORD!!

  • he stood up for a cause and I respect that... and 'the revolution will not be televised' is a great tune

  • If the nations power grid wewre to go out it would only be a matter of time...im a civil revolution human kindness and decensy arent worth s**t and we all will end up killing eachother and the govt will say not to panic while theyre bombing the rebelion...in our back yard. • Gil-Scott heron's contribution to my world view has been significant. May Gill assume whatever form he wants in whatever place his spirit wishes to be!!! R.I.P. my brother !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Native Americans just died. Being born American didn't matter.

  • cant fix stupid

  • get the fuck out of here comparing anything he's talking about to this bullshit Occupy Wall Street "movement". because by and large the people at OWS are entitled, sheltered and shouldnt be surprised that an arm (the police) of a state for which free-market capitalism is life-blood would want to subvert their efforts or even worse do them harm.

meanwhile innocent black people get their asses beat by the police so often its just accepted that it happens. shit...not to mention Oscar Grant

  • Rehab chick dies and its an inner-web tragedy. we lost a musician like Gil Scott-Heron and the world never noticed.

  • @detroitchrisdaman are you talking about amy winehouse? because she was an artist as well.

  • @detroitchrisdaman it matters only to the people who he matters

  • thats disgusting. someone as brilliant as him being pushed down to the bottom into poverty. Goes to show who we like listen to...

  • @Tzara86 You're missing the point of Gil Scott-Heron's use of the phrase in the poem. Stop making yourself look like an idiot.

  • Join the revolution that is being televised! You don't have to be in New York to Occupy! Google, and you are certain to find a place of gathering near you!

  • r.i.p. coming from a black 19 year old. You will be remembered and your work isn't done yet.

  • @MRjimvinnburr your responses will not be televised...

  • @MRjimvinnburr ,,,wtf do the dolphins got to do with this page ,,,,

  • @ 3azabb. Lol

  • ♥ .

  • We thought when Obama ran for elections we would see the revolution being televised and we did but he turned out to be another Whitey on the moon

  • @3azabb oooooooooooooooooooh! fist puuump!!!

  • @3azabb - well you'd need to have actual magical powers better than Jesus to be able to exist in those systems as the real you, and also express yourself as the real you. Surely that's obvious folks?! It cannot be done for all kinds of reasons. The best-equipped are also not going to even look towards getting into those kinds of areas of work & service anyway, cause they know it's all fake and evil.

  • @MannySteinerBIeeky The man lacks the leadership skills and to me personally that was the most disappointing action I witnessed during his rein. Did he expect red carpets and rose petals beneath his feet as he strolled in an out of the White House.

  • #OccupyWallStreet #TakeWallStreet #sep17

  • Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano sent out a spirited message to Dolfans! He said he needs you all at the stadium & that the team needs your support & undying loyalty. He finished up with "We're going to get there (GET THERE-WHERE? DAMN-iT!) one way or the other. I hope its with you but we'll do it without you" What do you think about his message? Will you be cheering on the Fins @SunLifeStadium this season? Sound off here @WPLG Your responses will be read on Local 10 News @6am "BELiEVE"

  • The Revolution will not be televised it will be posted to youtube

  • @PSNGreyLynx LOL!!! probably so or at the least sent via twitter. lol

  • Love this man RIP

  • RIP Gil Scott-Heron

  • This dude was like 60 when he died but looked 80...RIP

  • We lost a good one when we lost him. He's in a better place. That's certain.

  • i dont know about that "better place" but hed deserve that for sure.

  • @oudaoua We did lose a good man, a thinking man, but he's not in a better place, he's dead, plain and simple. The thought of a "better place" makes us less willing to make THIS place a better one.

  • @ompampinos Even dead is bettter than this. Get a clue. Besides, I'm not about to take it on your authority that the life of the spirit ceases when the body dies.

  • @oudaoua, "I'm not about to take it on your authority that the life of the spirit ceases when the body dies", GOOD FOR YOU BECAUSE WHETHER OR NOT @ompampinos or anyone else ever accepts or believes it, it really DOES NOT (it actually goes back to God). Thanks for your input.

  • @ompampinos, "to make THIS place a better one", For exactly HOW LONG has mankind been "trying" to do that, and look at how far he's (we've) gotten and how that's worked out for us. Whether or NOT anyone ever believes it, there IS a Much Better place beyond what we can ever imagine on this Earth and it's coming real soon.

  • @jebeja You are so right Jah's new world

  • @oudaoua The ground?

  • @phadedlife LOL!!! I don't know what comes next but I don't think it is oblivion. I just don't, and that is based on years of reflection. Still, if the pure quiet of resting in the ground is all we can hope for it is probably a little better than what we have to put up with above it. I just can't believe the shit that goes on out here. You couldn't dream up stuff this screwy if you were trying to write a bad movie.

  • @oudaoua Your quiet and peace will not be found of this earth my friend.

  • Comment removed

  • @oudaoua i doubt he would agree with you on that one. as his face is being eaten by worms 5 feet underground in a wooden box.....actualy he may have been cremated...not to sure .....

  • Just because you are born American don't mean you are going to be rich. You have to fight for equal opportunity to become rich to get out of poverty. Every American is not born into wealth. Some of us have to fight and work our ass off for a full equal slice.

  • @Unique9773 only 1 percent of all humans including americans make 250k a year and over and 250k a year is still definetly not rich with all consideration that there are only 215 known about billionaires in a world that has 8 billion people. that's very small amount of numbers working to keep everyone else away from the resources theyve hoarded. If youre not with them, you are already against them. Cause believe it or not the world does have a limited amount of resources &the few rich have known

  • @wufrudelu exactly!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful poem it was.

I just heard it again, when an inspired Revolution is occurring in Israel and I am calling for a boycott of the mass media.

A friend in Israel, a young man born well after this poem was recorded, reminded me of it.

Just so you know how far you reached.

    God bless you!

  • Comment removed

  • Being born American didn't matter. We still had to fight for being American.

  • @ealvarezz10 Back in those days.

  • @TEACHYOUTEEWHY I was quoting something he said. About your comment I think that racism unfortunately still exist today.

  • yeah i thinks the ego/hype must be Universal with certain types of people Where, would they be with out all the others that participated? if nobody else cared things would have never changed! LOL assholes smh self righteous idiot

  • @mysticxhobo my mother O.o

  • Exactly Revolution wont be televised...Revolution= A Thought

  • @mysticxhobo you have to be kidding....

  • R.I.P.

  • I agree with him, And seems America has forgotten what it's about to be American here.

And what he said about carrying, That's why Obama shouldn't be our president, A real African American born for sure here should have been the first. I don't know how to explain that. But they deserve a chance to lead. Not some dude who can't prove who or where he's from.

America! Wake the fuck up now. before it's 100% sure that we are too late to do anything about the thing's that are destroying us all.

  • @Snowman374th What do you mean by a real African American? Americans are all the people who inhabit the Americas, that's from the top of Canada to the bottom of Argentina including the Caribbean. Just because the United States co-opted the word American, to mean them, doesn't make it correct. Would Gil Scott Heron be American enough? His father is Jamaican. By the way, Obama's mum is American.

  • One of these days…all of us who think like what Gil was talking about … will band together… no matter what color our skin is… we are all still one RACE! The HUMAN race.

  • I like how Gil-Scott Heron breaks it straight down to the point

  • He breaks it down perfectly, the revelation comes to the individual.

  • Genius!!!

  • @yumyum101able . Yep simply just a genius statement. My first real glimpse at Gil Scott Heron. I am impress with his poetry. His crack use not so impressive this is tragic.

  • Gil Scott was a brilliant musician, changing the mind is the first step of liberation. He was absolutely right in that fact, it is essential to change your paradigm. You cannot be successful if you think you are a failure, you cannot stop being a victim if you think you are a victim. This was a brilliant philosophy went over everyone's head. The revolution will not be televised!

  • A lot of men and women didn't get it! Above their heads with it!

    Unfortunately really!

But glad this video was done so the future will know!

  • Music can't change the world! if it was going to, it would have happened in the 60s and 70s ! We have to change. Once enough of us get really tired of being enslaved by the

Debt pyramid. Once enough of us know the real mechanism that keeps us bound &

oppressed. Once our fear of death overwhelms our idea that we too can be at the top of the pyramid then we can start to change. I know this will one day happen but what i don't

know is if it will happen for 7 billion or 700 million of us !

  • "Blackness" has nothing to do with it. It's not about being a color it's more about being a HUMAN BEING.

  • When we talk with words from our thoughts; we push principalities from the spiritual realm; to the physical realm.

Words. The most powerful weapon on earth.

  • yes. glad to hear a compassionate philosopher.. I'm die-hard too .. but I'm not black...

A very old wise man once gave wisdom.

    He said,

    "listen"

thanks for the thoughts .. keep imagination alive.

  • <3 <3 <3 -- Mental Elevation + Positive Motivation = FREEdom

  • the rapper common in the song "the 6th sense"

  • RIP

  • RIP, one of the pioneers of hip hop

  • "You can put kittens in an oven .... but that don't make them biscuits.. " M.E.S.

That is basically what Gil is saying in that statement. We must all remember that for the human race ... for better or worse.. America is as good as it gets.. The sons of Ham, Shem and finally Japeth all had their day ... and America is the pinnacle of what the sons of Japeth were able to accomplish as far as man governing himself goes ..

  • You can put kittens in an oven .... but that don't make them biscuits.. M.E.S.

  • This exceptionally beautiful person seems to prove, through the life he had, the sufferings he endured, the mystical side of his immense poetry, his over-powerful political awareness, his voice sending shivers to everyone with some kind of Heart & Soul, GSH seems to prove that however gifted you are, it doesn''t mean you gonna have a happy life. Happiness will not be televised either, cos it doesn't exist, and that's precisely because we love this Man so much, forever. Keep on fighting, bro'.

  • yeah its a shame when you got people like Gil Scott-Heron who want to make a change, but dont really have the powers and the peeps backing him, but then you get the black eyed peas, or jay z, snoop, i could go on! they have the ability and the power to change the world but abuse it for the money.

RIP Gil Scott-Heron one of my heroes

  • Power speaks truth through the mind RIP

  • I videos like this, you wonder if comments should be allowed. The ignorance and bigotry can completely take away from the clip.

  • Aite, well didn't mean to "offend" anyone with the "N" word, but emotionally that's how I feel. Do black people have to show 2 forms of I.D just to walk down the street? Are black people being deported back to there home country when don't speak a lick of their native tongue? Look at the lives your black ancestors and tell me you don't see some of the segregations they have being implemented on Mexican lives.Be mad cuz I said nigger, but i'm mad that we're living the word...R.I.P GS-H

  • The Revolution Will Not Be Facebookised

  • @cokotuossurdum Haha the only "nigger" i see here is you, your ignorance is pathetic. Plus these racist jokes are getting old. How about you learn proper English before you try to insult a group of people that are above your bullshit:)

  • R.I P

    real big Brother..

for all the little brother of the masses.

  • im going to miss you so much

  • VERY WELL PUT!! MAY U REST IN PEACE AND THANK U!!

  • If you're still internally dividing people by the color of their skin you're fighting against the shift in consciousness we're currently undergoing, you have to deep-down understand we are all one and the same.

  • @Olio89 we are all different, african, asian, indian, european, i'm not fighting to be accepted as your equal, you really think that whites and black give the same value to life, religion, family. you think that we all want country music,mc donalds, jesus?so for you freedom= we all think, eat,do the same as machines. our sjkin is a part of our identity.sorry for my english i speak french

  • @TheVoodooochile All those ideas are in your head.

  • Nice to know that at least some of you youngsters know who Gil Scott Heron was. maybe ther is hope.

  • @clatn75 One of the problems is that even if a rapper or hip hop group wants to put out something that has a message or is political, the labels won't sign them and radio stations won't play it. It's like there's a mandate from the corporate and media worlds to only promote only negative, self-degrading hip hop. They don't want music from groups like A Tribe Call Quest, Brand Nubian, Public Ememy, Grandmaster Flash etc to ever become popular again. Then Gil's Revolution would surely begin.

  • @RISQUE1963

Then more of those conscious rappers need to step up on the business end and start their own lables. Much of the gangsta rap was put out by artist who owned their own lables or belonged to independent lables that catered to that style of music(Ruthless,No Limit,Sick Wit It,Suave House etc).

  • @CrowdPleeza

We got labels like Rhymesayers, Def Jux, anitcon., and what have you, it's just not a marketable genre, and is condemned to live in the backpacks of young kids with spray cans until the revolution comes about.

  • Prophet. I don't think he really took in the full implication of those words "TRWNBT". I may not have agreed with his lifestyle at times, but this man made a great impact on how I perceive the world. The original album is one of my favorites of all time. 4 those who don't know there is more 2 him than spoken word. Humanity lost one of the greatest (revolutionary-change agent) minds of our time...but the words-music-vibe-lessons will live on. peace my brother.

  • Parliument funkadlicks "free your ass and your mind will follow" followed the great Gill-Scott. We loved you in life brother and will love you always into the forevermore.

  • RIP <3 :(!!

  • whoever dislikes this footage does NOT know the true essence of music and poetry that this man has brought about.

  • "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, The Revolution Is Here''

  • Hmmm Lets see . Another crack smoking New York jail bird " brutha " on the down lo goes to the Big Aids Ward in the sky and I'm supposed to be sad ? Well , I'm not . Have fun in commie hell shitskin .

  • The Blacks and the Love generation were well ahead of the game! They knew more about what was going on in the world!! Fair Play to them!! Perhaps now the rest of the world will catch up to them!! Thank you for being aware!! :-)

Love, Peace, Freedom, Unity and Compassion!

  • This guy was a thinking man, but black music took a serious dive after the Rap and hip-hop bling/blame culture became entrenched sometime in the 90s (hard to pinpoint).

Gangsta cRap music surely won't bring about any revolution worth participating in. It just drags people down. All the comforts of America that thugs take for granted would vanish in a week if their mentality ruled the whole nation. They are parasites of the lowest order.

  • @Antithropocentric Its not that hard to pinpoint. Bad Boy records invented the mindless money music and everybody else followed suit. Thats what had Tupac so heated.

  • @Antithropocentric

Ain't no "revolution" coming through music anyway. People put too much dependence on music to change things. Want to see Black people lives improve? Then more Blacks need to start businesses, spend more of their dollars with those businesses, utilized Black owned banks more, learn to invest money, give more money to the UNCF. This is what Blacks need more of and not more conscious music necessarily. What can more conscious music do for unemployed Black men?

  • @CrowdPleeza a song can spark a revolution though. Like he says in this video, there needs to be something that changes your perspective on things. When blacks find obstacles in starting businesses that are related to the colour of their skin, they can be moved to force changes in a system when finding a common ground across all the discriminated people. A song most likely will not be the reason for revolt, but can be a breeding ground. So that's where you are wrong.

  • @CrowdPleeza ... More conscious music makes for empowerment of the mind, and puts the hundreds of millions of dollars being thrown at entertainers into the hands of artist who wanna give back to the community (instead of some selfish party animal in his second childhood). Put little dewaynes money in the hands of someone with a brain and he goes back to the neighborhoods that need help and builds businesses.

  • @CrowdPleeza @CrowdPleeza ...

  • @DirtyDodgers

Well one problem I see with political/conscious rap music is that it's appeal can be limited because the messages many of these artist come with may not appeal to everyone. Political artist are coming with certain views on race, economics, history and gender that many consumers may or may not agree with. I prefer undergound artist who aren't overly political myself.

  • @CrowdPleeza Sorry but the problem is the monetary system itself! this system empowers those that have it and

as long as they do the majority will be enslaved. When Gil says we need to change our way of thinking he is right and

thinking we need money to live is part of the problem. We all deserve to live with no one man above any other but

americans were sold on the delusion that we can all be rich. If anyone really believes that they deserve a bigger

slice of the pie they are deluded !

  • @endtyrany

" thinking we need money to live is part of the problem."

No money means poverty. People need money(along with money management knowledge).

Now what money does or doesn't mean to you philosphically is up to you to decide.

  • @CrowdPleeza and @Antithropocentric: you think it's about joining the dominant (money) culture? really, that's what you take from this discussion?

  • @CrowdPleeza I agree with most of what you've said except the bit about the UNCF, we need High schools and Elementary schools!Since most kids can chose(especially being driven toward diversity ) the UNCF may not do as well, due to the fact that less blacks are attending predominately black institutions ,since brown vs the board !Secondly ,promoting more conscious music and images never hurt us as a people. It's definitely a lot better than most music on the airwaves.

    more than just the UNCF!

  • @CrowdPleeza Well said my friend. Well said

  • @CrowdPleeza give them food for thought, "music" is free

  • @CrowdPleeza enlighten him

  • @CrowdPleeza bullshit

  • @CrowdPleeza I agree brothah music is the first step and the next is plan and action

  • @CrowdPleeza start a businesses with what dollars? if you know 498 other people to invest two hundred dollars into one business then you might have something, I'd be down. Never underestimate the power of influence art can have. It simply motivates people plus it's also been a way for a cultures to reach out to eachother. i just dont get why anyone would question approaching everything we do with consciousness except when it comes to sleep.

  • @wufrudelu

West Indian and African immigrants are well known for starting businesses through the use of pooled savings called susu loans. More Black-Americans should consider this approach.

  • @CrowdPleeza

This man has more wisdom in his pinky toe than the entire GOP has EVER had.

God judges the HEART, and this man expresses truth and wisdom that Pharisees like you, are deaf and blind to.

  • @wufrudelu

" Never underestimate the power of influence art can have. It simply motivates people..."

But you should keep in mind or acknowledge that the influence of conscious music can be a mixed bag. Because different people listening to the music can get something different from it. Many people may or may not agree with every conscious artist's viewpoint. I don't agree with those conscious rappers who reflect a Marxist viewpoint.

  • @CrowdPleeza Yeah I agree, there are many different opinions and viewpoints many different cultures have. I personally have many problems with Marxism, we don't need authoritarian figures anymore, they just end up becoming thought-less thugs like the police that are on our streets. But that's my opinion, you may not agree with it but it's based on my life experiences and reflection of as are your opinions. In the end we gain a wider perception of human life. i'd rather hear you than a business

  • @CrowdPleeza

    The answer is "SPENDING?" ROFL

Consumerism and "spending" are the PROBLEM. Greed is destructive, NOT creative.

You want to PUNISH the people who consume the LEAST, because you know the end is near.

    Money does NOT=improved.

The LAST shall be first. Words of wisdom.

  • @CrowdPleeza preach on brother . I totally agree!!!!

  • @CrowdPleeza People in Ghettos and Projects are born into it, they are born into a TRAP. Dont you see this? Or are you another mindless monkey born from this pathetic American culture?
