I believe that Englishmen were given civil treatment while ethnic Chinese were given harsh treatment. Some Indians were given the opportunity to actually join the Japanese side. The war was not against the British but rather, a clean out of all ethnic Han Chinese expats in Southeast Asian.
the british are stupid like hell! y dun they cut off the heads of the japanese and take pic and say look how strong are we like wat the japanese did to the chinese! I HATE U FUCKING JAPANESE!
its pretty obvious the majority do not think that way, where as most asian countries don't think highly of japan because of the empire they tried to build where as many places praise Britain for its Empire, eg there are 50 something countries in the commonwealth...and some places still choose to be governed by the British! so yes my conclusion is that you are a total retard
A conclusion you made because you are a total retard yourself.
First of all, being part of the Commonwealth, it´s not equal to be governed by the British. Second, I said I wasn¨t comparing the Japanese to the British, but saying that British SOLDIERS (not the British in general, you dumbass) were anything but civilized.
your profile says you are from Japan, therfore you obviously feel that Japan is better secondly Exactly....THOSE COUNTRIES CHOSE TO JOIN THE COMMONWEALTH...and some places are still governened by the british...e.g. Gibraltar, the Falkland Island and Hong Kong until 1997....and so yes British soldiers are a whole lot more civilised than the Japanese as every Asian country at the time would have agrre'd with me.
I live in Japan, yes, but I´m not Japanese, so your conclusion about my adherence to the country is completely baseless.
That´s because those aren´t countries as such, but British territories,. There is a BIG difference between a colony, and a country that decides to be part of an economic alliance. And British soldiers have a longer history of abuses and brutality since the days of the New Model army, so saying that they are "civilized" in any way, is ignorant and childish.
Some of Japanese regiment having 6 feet tall soldier during the invasion they was call, Japanese Imperial Regiment and they just like the commandos and the short one is the Manchurian Army. They can fight without gun and just using Katana and every person will fight 3 days without sleep. Father of my fathers friend have told him about Mitsubishi Zero aircraft, it frame was made by bamboo just the body and engine by metal.
My grandmother live on the river banks of Sungai Perak in those days. Japanese embarked Teluk Intan by Sungai Perak, while The British says Japs will come via the Sungai Perak bridge about 4oo yards from her house. british destroyed the bridge and stupidly wait for the japs at the bridge. The japs attack from behind and The british ran away.
Malaysia historical department came to her house and interviewed her about the Battle of Teluk Intan.
She told us the whole story both before and after the battle. It was horrible. She was pregnant (my father) and she had to abandon her house. She was hiding from bombs and mortar in a drain. There's one spot opposite my grandmother house used by the Japs to torture and beheaded the locals. After japs leave, Communist took over that spot again and repeat what japs did before.
Malaysian and singapore knows that british has no guts to go war on their own. They hired The gurkhas and Sipahi armies to fight for them and claim that the hired armies are not well train. The fact is, they're are hired far before WW2 and obviously they are trained and been on battlefield several times. My grandmother eye-witness the battle of Teluk Intan between British and Japan 100 yards from her house. She told us Bristish are the stupid one and overconfidence.
The truth is, british ran away in this battle and The MALAY REGIMENT FOUGHT GENERAL YAMASHITA TROOPS TILL THIER LAST BLOOD IN SINGAPORE. THIS BATTLE IS FAMOUS BECAUSE IT'S NOT BRISTISH WHO FOUGHT THE JAPANESE BUT THE MALAYS REGIMENTS. THE BRITISH RAN AWAY INTO HIDING IN SINGAPORE AND THE MALAY FOUGHT FOR THEIR MOTHERLAND.
Actually, the British sent lots of troops to Singapore. They even sent some ships. However, they lost due to some reasons such as poor leadership. Thats what I remember from my history lesson. :P
@XpolarstormX Wasn't just poor leadership, it was the fact that the British high command decided against sending battle changing equipment such as tanks. Instead of sending tanks/planes to Singapore/Hong Kong they were sent to the USSR. The Japanese were well trained in jungle warfare, were as most British troops would of never even seen a jungle never mind fought in one. Britain was short of equipment through the early years and it was seen as more important to send spare supplies to the USSR.
@XpolarstormX If Britain had intelligence of troops numbers then Singapore would never have fallen. The Japanese were very short on supplies and were outnumbered 3/1, it was lack of tanks/planes and intelligence that lost the battle. When the British finally learned how to fight in the jungles then the Japanese started to get pushed back, making the use of air drops the Chindits could commit guerilla warfare . Force Z should of had aircover, but HMS Indomitable had ran aground in Jamaice
@XpolarstormX The British were also sending 48 Hurricanes to Singapore, these were sent in January, but a month later the British had surrendered. IF the British had not sent the spare supplies to the USSR then Singapore would never have fallen, if the British had held Force Z back until HMS Indomitable was available then they would never have been sunk.
@shawn3213 Well, they would save their homeland first of course, but i went to singapore once, and i saw that back in WWII the brits said singapore was a ' Un-capturable fortress city '
Also, by the way 90% of Japanese are nice, cool people today. The racist ones are usually kind of old. I think its partly because of ancestor worship that Japanese find it difficult to admit the attrocities commited by their army in the 1930`s in China and in WWII. And also because the Emperor of Japan could be dragged into it too. So, the old dudes who control what`s printed and put in text books will hold out till they kick the bucket. It`ll take another generation before they apologize.
Maybe the war had a permanent effect on their mindset or something. But I watched some documentaries and some WWII Japanese soldiers actually did apologize.
Yeah, I like Japan today. About looking down- I mean I have seen the looks of some Japanese on the train etc when they see someone who is Filipino/Malay features. It`s racist. But it`s not aggressive. Chinese people aren`t looked down on because their features aren`t as recognizably non-Japanese. I was replying to Banibu2 who seems to be racist against Chinese. Anyway, I`ve visited Singapore too and I thought it is really cool.
I'm not sure if everyone will agree with you. (That Japan was a war-time hero) They caused lots of suffering to Asia. For example they tested biological weapons e.g. Anthrax on the Chinese. They also brought much misery to the people of Singapore. That's my opinion.
Of course there would be much confusion during war. However, the European treated an Asian as a slave more than 400 years. This history is much bigger than the confusion that the Japanese armed forces brought. It is not fair you forget this history, and to criticize only Japan. Many Indonesians evaluate Japan highly.
I know, Japan talked about Nipponizing Southeast Asia and about a Co-prosperity Sphere or something. But the fact remains that the Japanese carried out atrocities like the Sook Ching Operation, in which they massacred many Chinese men. By the way, the Japanese also battled the Malays and Indians, not just the Europeans. Now that's directing war to the Asians.
No. The bumiputra did not have the armed forces. It was not allowed for them to have the armed forces as a colony person. They do not fight.
India shared an action with Japan.
And the Indian independent armed forces performed the Japanese armed forces and a joint strategy. They called it Imphal strategy. The wish of the Indian independent armed forces was independence from the U.K.
Even if it is bumiputra, the armed forces led by a British military commander are enemies. In other words it is the bumiputra U.K. force. While it fights, the soldier murders an enemy. You should call it death in battle without calling it a slaughter act. And the bumiputra was made to participate in a battle forcibly. The U.K. drafted bumiputra forcibly. Because they were robbed of independence.
British and DUTCH are totally different human creature. They are not even allied. I heard stories about the Dutch in Indonesia from a friend in Jakarta. During my visit his grandfather told us about the Dutch. From his story, it's obviously THEY ARE DIFFERENT. The DUTCH tortured Indonesian both Mental and physical as well as sucking up Indonesia raw sources. The consequences , The Dutch makes Indonesian become stupid. This is what my friend's grandfather told us.
The British suck up our richness but they do not torture us both mental and physical, they cultivate us and teach us how to run a country before they give independence. Nothing is free if you want to learn something, that is the price we have to pay.
Even when you were in SMA and SMP, you're require to pay for the school fees. Nothing is free dickhead.
I do not think that the Europeans were as cruel as the Japanese. What is the reason that you ignore the cruel acts of the Japanese?
As for Singapore, the natives willingly became a colony of the British when Sir Stamford Raffles came along.
Also, the term Bumiputra means "Son of Earth" and has roots in recognizing the "special position" of the Malays given by the Federal Constitution of Malaysia.
You cannot deny that the Japs brought about cruelty. And yes, I am Chinese Singaporean.
The reason why you do not criticize the history of the British aggression is that there is not a concept called the ancestral soil.
Because you are Chinese, you cannot be able to speak for a feeling of the bumiputra. This is a meaning to say that your ancestors are the criminals who invaded Singapore with a Briton. In Singapore, a Chinese influences politics now. It has a similar influence in the history education.
The study of history is not supposed to be biased. I am arguing based on facts. And your argument that I am a Chinese and cannot argue fairly is wrong. In philosophical terms, your argument contains a fallacy, in particular, the ad Hominem fallacy. You are attacking the person (in this case me), by claiming that I am biased and am a Chinese, instead of the argument itself. Please reconsider your argument and use facts instead of this kind of small talk.
The funny thing is that if you were walking in the street in Japan a lot of Japanese would look down on you. I work there. Mainly because they think if you are South East Asian looking you are probably poor. Japan is a good country now though. Even if they still look down on some people who visit their country ..maybe like you..
Really? They look down on you? I went for a holiday in Japan and I found the Japanese rather friendly. However, some of them still refuse to acknowledge their war crimes and apologize.
Good videos...showing how the so called mighty Britishs lost the war to the Japs....Thanks GOD for our our Prime Ministers who built up Singapore. Never reply on the white people, they cant even fight the Japanese...in those days...
Wow. Little on the racist side, aren't you? The Brits didn't lose the war to the Japanese. The Japanese lost it to the United States and its allies (the Aussies, the Kiwis, the Brits, the Indians, and the asian native contingents.) But I do understand how native Singaporeans might be a bit disillusioned with the British: they were supposed to protect those they ruled!
this vid is for my history class and the topic wasnt about the jap occupation it was about the BATTLE itself read the description first b4 criticising lmao get your facts rite first
And your video's bias says alot about YOU. If you don't want people to criticize your video or express their anger, then maybe you shouldn't have made it so anti-British. When you did, you welcomed racist comments from people like the above, Gundam1972. Try remaking it, including things like the Sook Ching massacre or the Alexandra Hospital massacre to balance it out! Good luck.
