I have some NA blood in me and im black lol But I dont claim to be something Im not because I am part NA and have always known spiritually. My great great grandmother was a full blood cherokee she was not mixed with European or African. The mixing came after lol My great grandfather was blackfoot indian. I take up after both sides as far as features. People always say I dont look black ( well I am mixed with more than NA ) they usually mistake me for being Hondurian.
@pensmoke. I have experienced the same feeling I guess, when foreigners in my country Sweden, come up to me saying that their anscestors were vikings. It is as fake as horns on a viking's helmet. That is a Hollywood product. Just as common as the feather bonnet placed in the wrong tribe. I think you do right letting pretenders know how you feel. But some times it's better just to let ut be. Let them dream.
@pensmoke. Your video is very interesting. I can't but agree. I haven't one drop of NA blood and I have never claimed so either. But American Elders have on different occations spoken to me as if I was worthy of their attention. I do feel very honored by that. What I'm saying is that even a white person, like me can "be indian" spiritually, without pretending to belong to your rase. I also find it pathetic that people fool themselves that they a grand children to royalties or shamans. Human van
also i am non-political, i am a traditional cherokee our chief is at the stompgrounds and not at the nation,wa have our own chief who does not get paid for what he does.
First off i am a fullblood & to me if you wasnt rasied up like a cherokee, speak the language and do not worship like a cherokee then you are probally not a cherokee...this world is full of people with CDIB cards and native blood, but it takes more then that to be a native.Daryl McLemore
I have a few natives in my heritage (greatgreatgrandfather and greatgreatgrandmother on my mothers side and great great grandmother on my fathers side) when people ask if im "part" indian I tell them I am part nothing, I have heritage on both sides yes but sadly the traditions where not carried threw to me nor my sister. I do however still persue the things I am allowed to learn there are many things i will never be tought and I feel a level of disappointment when i think about this.
What I took from this was more of a push for individuals that make claims but do not know nor understand their true heritage, to look into and learn about their own history befor making claims on the beliefs they have based upon what they were wrongly taught. I may be wrong, but I choose two feed the better of my two wolves. (sorry but it made me split my response)
I am currently trying to enroll my family in the Cherokee Nations and trying to uncover and find my heritage. I am hungry to learn about my heritage. I am redheaded and freckled face but with brown eyes and yes I do have 'high cheekbones' but that is not why I am trying to trace my families heritage, the reason is because I want to know where I came from , something that has been hidden for many many years. So you say I am fake? The Dawes Roll # in my family bible says otherwise.
If you have something to say - say it. Don't beat around the bush and try to be somewhat "politically correct" or "deep." What a sad existence to be filled with so much hate.
It is the spirit that runs through your veins that makes up your makeup. Due to the fact of reincarnation and your bloodline. You may carry a lot of energy of a particular race because of your lives in a past cycle. You can have a lot of Native blood in you and those with a dicerning eye can feel the present of Native blood in someone even if they were born in another race. Yet it takes skill an a skillful eye to see the energy that a person displays. A true native can spot another native.
1 more thing..u have almost 32k views for this video...just think if you fed the Good Wolf what you could accomplish for the BETTERMENT of the situation. ..........and no, the inside thing came from my grandfather...the Indian. Thanks :)
@ ur response...I did agree with u about having respect and people not just "acting" the part for attention. The part I am, NOT ANGRY, but UPSET is the video throw's all halves (good or bad) as ONE, I live what I have learned. I continue to learn. I cannot help what LOOKS I was born with, that's not my fault. I only know what inside tells me I am. It did offend me, because I like many others, don't act. It didn't make me angry. u just need to realize not everyone's like that :(
Im part cherokee to im mostly polish and i got german to im white because of that but i can get a good tan over summer i dont have any pics of me last summer but it looked liked i had a spray tan i bet if i go all summer i could get as dark as a black guy then say im a new kid and call my self papa nigga
I agree w/ what our Brother posted in the video. There are too many wanna Be's. Ok so you have 1% NDN blood & no paper trail, go to a rez & live there for a yr or so, learn about us, your heritage, don't just buy a NDN t-shirt & dream catcher & think your walking the Red Road, cause your NOT!! Be more respectful of what we have left!!
BLOOD THAT MAKE A CHEROKEE, IT'S THEIR HEART." Too bad YOU can't learn that. YOUR A DISGRACE, NOT ME. While I agree that some DO portray when they seek attention, calling them out on it IS NOT OUR WAY. This is totally disgraceful. I'm VERY disappointed a brother would post this. SHAME ON YOU.
@IvyLou79 You are just another person who probablyonly watched the first 30 seconds of the video, misunderstood it, and got their panties in a bunch. And as far as mypic itsright there on my profile. In the video I am speaking on people mainly who make up fake 'traditions' and say they are 'part cherokee'. If the shoe fits, wear it. If it doesntthen why would you get so mad. The only people I have ever heard say 'being NDN is in your heart' are new-agers.
@olmecbones you think I sound like a 'redneck'? Man you really are disconnected arent you? We are a southern Nation. Oklahoma, North Carolina, this is where the Cherokee people live. If you 'dont care' as you say then keep your 2 cents out of the discussion.
@olmecbones I didnt say that you moron. Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, Seminole, etc are all from 'southern' areas of the US. Therefore some of us speak with a southern accent. Is that an easier explanation for you to grasp?
@olmecbones Dude you dont even know what that means do you? Its gibberish. You are just putting Cherokee syllabary together hoping it looks like youare saying something LOL
:@ you know, I could REALLY spout off atcha. WHERE'S YOUR PIC AT, OH HOLY INJUN?? :| Ya know..but bein VIOLENT and disrespectful to ANY is not OUR WAY. Whether they're 8th of 100% or 1 of a 1000% in blood relation, they're still Cherokee. Leme explain to you what an ELDER told me once...as I do not have the dark skin (I'm Cherokee and Irish), I offend MYSELF...my insides scream indian and it's people like YOU who keep me down. Elders say what? "IT IS NOT THE MAKE UP OF A MAN'S OUTSIDES OR--
Ik brother I am 2\4 Cherokee and 2\4 Spanish im southeastern Cherokee and some tribe from porto Rico im proud to be Cherokee and try to find as much info as I can and I hate posers who claim there Indian when they know nothing of our ppl
osiyo I am from the Echota cherokee tribe but I am also part Choctaw and kickapoo but i look white from my french that I get from my mom and for all you ppl who dont know there is no such thing as a Cherokee princess and we did not live in tipis we lived in wigwams and longhouses we are still very active in our traditions and learn how to dance and sing and learn the ways of out Ancestors If you want to know the way of my ppl go to a Reservation and find out really what you are claiming wado
yes we do, have much to talk about on the subject of indanness.being cherokee isnt in your hair,it isnt in your body features, nor is it in your language or your culture.being a cherokee to me and my family, is in the blood,in the heart, and in the way of the spirit.its sad that we dont all have elders to teach us the history and culture of our peoples, but we cant let that limit our quest for wisdom and enlightenment............ lifes to short to sit around and wory about what you you are. u r u
I wish to make a couple things perfectly clear. First, I AM Cherokee and damn PROUD of it! I can't stress that enough. Secondly, I follow the TRUE PATH: JESUS CHRIST, the ONLY True God and Savior of the world! I can't stress that enough. Amazing that I can have all the blood tests and DNA results in the world, and my People will not accept me! Sorry, they need to change that.
I understand fully where you are coming from. Cherokee Blood runs through my veins from both sides of my family. I am Redman! Unfortunately I can't do anything about the white blood that is in me. Some will put me down for making that last statement. I don't care! I contacted the Res in North Carolina, asking them if I got a blood/DNA test to prove to them who I am, would they accept me as being one of them. They said NO. My name had to be on some white government roll!!! SHAME!!!
I hate when anyone says they are 'part' anything, you cant' be part something, it's a matter of embodiment of the culture. that doesn't mean you can't be several things at once. If you don't know your culture than you shouldn't claim it, but you can't judge who some one is by what they look like. I identify as Roma and as Cherokee because that is how I was raised, how I see myself and I can't stand when people question that because of the blue eyes and freckles I inherited from my Irish father
I could not agree with you more. lol. There has never been a "cherokee princess" in a tribal role of government...only in beauty pageants. Another white myth created demeaning indigenous peoples. "Are you indian? My great great grandma was a cherokee princess" OMG how many times I've heard that! ~Wolf
@kaninchenmeister i'm also cherokee indian and german. I am also proud to be indian. i think that the cherokee stood strong against the white even when they were treated bad and their land was taken. i believe everyone who has indian blood should be proud of it whether they care or not.
I'm of Cherokee blood, nothing you say will ever take that away, whether I'm enrolled or not, I take pride in holding my blood and wish to learn more of my culture which I hold an understanding of, but I'm also German, born raised and loyal to the bone to that. I was born, and I want to die in the North.
I would like to know if but a wild chance. The government want all the Native Americans to go back to the rez and live there for say 5 years and help the tribe to be enrolled? How many of these people with all the claims will acually do it? I have lived off the rez for about 16 yrs and came back to help my tribe. I gave up a 100k job to work in the central finance. Doing something for the greater good of your tribe is what being a member of a tribe is all about. Not claming blood quantum.
Not enrolled because my grandfather didn't want me ran off to a school. My aunt said the Natives would call me a "mud blood" since I am only "PART" or mixed. I see a lot of hate coming from Natives to those of us misfortunate enough to have a white mother and a mixed blood father. My grandfather was taken from the res as a kid and stuck in a school. He tried everything to keep all his kids off the res and out of those schools including saying they were white and marrying white women.
I'm not any part Cherokee but Cherokee is part Me, I come from a Scottish Clan of whom interbred with the Cherokee tribe so meh, Chances are 50% if not more of all of You are part of My Scottish Clan :)
I am 100% Scottish Highlander and 0% Cherokee Indian, However over 50% of Cherokee Indians have the blood from one of My Ancestors.
@kedgwell I can't go into too much detail as I don't want to let My name public but Google "Cherokee Scottish Clan" and You'll find My Scottish Clan's name on the first page somewhere.
I am part Cherokee and I have hear about people calling us Mud-bloods!I'm planing on getting enrolled in a tribe! And I swear if I find someone who said they don't like it and they wish they had no cherokee in them, especially if there full,I'll tell them,"I wish I was full! I wish I had a tribe!Do you know how hard it is at my age to GET into a tribe?!Your Lucky that you where born into it!"I have much Cherokee pride. Some people recognize me as a Cherokee.Ok..Keep the pride.
Well we don't need the government to whip us out now, our own people do it for them! go ahead and kill any identity the 1/4 1/8 1/16 1/32 BLOOD MO NATIVE AMERICANS HAVE! If any of you have one drop of our blood you are our people,99% of all the first nations people were wiped out in the years fallowing Columbus landing in the new world, so its nothing more then a miracle to have any blood. So keep downing them and pushing them away so your blood will be the last! You will be standing alone.
my grandmother Was full blood cherokee. My other grandmother was choctaw/ irish. Were native american. My grandmothers were both enroled with a tribe. Both had family who walked here on the trail of tears. Sadly one lived in Oklahoma so she could get every thing paid for. I could go to college in Oklahoma for free if I wanted but I don't want to. It is wrong.
I have Cherokee and Catawba DNA. That is the part of me that is "Indian" and it is in every cell of my body. I cannot get any information on the Cherokee heritage because it is through my father with whom I have no relationship. I would like to learn more about the actual heritage, but I'm not sure where to start. It seems much of what is on youtube many people are saying is fake. Can you suggest a good source of information that is reliable? Thanks!
@maggiedeaux1 I don't think he sounds angry. He is calm and reasonable. His point wasn't to degrade other races or make his sound superior so the human race comment is irrelevant. He wanted to make the case that many people don't just claim this bloodline but also a feigned connection to the culture without any background knowledge or understanding or even the slightest desire to have background knowledge or understanding. He's saying to them: learn about their ancestry don't just play dress up.
haha ohhh i am so greatful you put this up! Im married to a native american not cherokee im not sure how to spell it sorry ,im from Wales (pure celt blood) and upon moving to america i found that EVERY white or black person claims cherokee status >.> i think its bloody stupid You are WHITE or BLACK NOT native stop trying to suck off other cultures please! im not even Native and this pisses me off! ,also if you claim to be a celt also learn about us dont insult us!
I have several Cherokee ancestors, so does my husband. He is 1/4 on his dad's side alone. One of my ancestors was a midwife and made it into her county's newspaper for delivering over 1000 babies. Another was rescued from the Trail of Tears by marrying a Scottish doctor, just to name a few. My kids are bing raised knowing about their heritage. We ARE Cherokee, even if we cannot enroll in the nation.
I think this is so true of ANY culture. There are a lot of people with Native American blood. However, what many people don't understand is that there's more to the identity than blood. It's cultural, and that's true of many different kinds of peoples, not just Native Americans, but people around the world who have a cultural identity. It's more than blood or skin, or maybe it's not about blood and skin AT ALL. So I think there's a lot of truth in what you say and feel.
How many whites, or blacks say they are 'part white' or 'part black'? I have never heard of any. If you are Indian you can have bloodlines of several tribes but usually identify with mostly one or two. I am Cherokee, enrolled with the Tsalagiyi Nvdagi (The Texas Cherokees) and am of the Ani Tsisqua (Bird People) but I am also Northern Cheyenne. Because I was adopted as a toddler, I did not find out about the Northern Cheyenne until much later but am connecting with my relations.
heeey man whats up i liked ur video.... im part cherokee and blackfoot im more blackfoot... yes ik my lang.. oki nitta piwwa/hello how is everything/ yes ik my stories ab how we uset do the sun dance to get closer to our great spirite how we uset to hook r back to hooks and sit there for days on in my ina/mom/ is half blackfoot and half cherokee she inrolled in the blood clan/blackfoot tribe im not good talking friend
lol start saying my great great great grandfather was a Cherokee princess lol I don't understand where did people get that crap from No Native American tribe did that there was no kings and Queens in any tribe so therefore there was no prince or princess people really need to stop believing everything they read in the books I do kinda agree with some you said in this video but alot didnt have the way to know their culture what is apart of them not all lies some are mislead
So because im only part cherokee im not cherokee? Im sorry but you dont decide that for me or anyone else. Im scottish cherokee. Im just as much that as im am with all my other blood lines
And, yes..I know a blue eye/with one green eye Cherokee..On the roll..he has Irish blood also..which makes no sense due to the fact that the brown eyed gene is dominant. But, when he walks into the Nation Bld, he is KNOWN!!! My Uncle..
Being related by blood and land does not mean so much to these people today we are broken mostly uncivil and judged as if trying to get into a country club, so my gift has been knowing where my heart comes from and they are gone now though I have seen their pictures and it helps to understand why I am different and left behind. The animals know more than you understand, sir, and if our civilized people had been allowed to maintain, you might have an acceptive attitude toward tribal remnants now
ha! i love it. i am keetowah. a band of the cherokees that broke off the original tribe. they have a rule that you have to be at least a quarter cherokee to join. I am called a fake indian by navijos and other tribes and so many white people act like we are related. i am insulted by this. this video is exactly how i feel. my grandpa was a medicine man-and there is no such thing as a cherokee princess. lol! thank you for this video!!! wa do!
See that's the thing right there...I'm so tired of all this fake stuff about Native Americans people make up, exactly what you're saying. But the thing is you wouldn't know I had ANY Native blood by looking at me. I've learned so much about the culture from the people around me and I love it a lot. I just wish I could say that it's mine :/
One of my biggest pet peeves. EVERYONE says they're "1/16 cherokee", and it is bullshit. In order to claim native ancestry, AT THE VERY LEAST, the following must have happened to you at some point: -been asked "what race are you?" -been derogitorily called "chief" or "cochise" -had someone do that indian war-cry thing at you -been in a fight because you're different-looking -been asked "are you part chinese or something?", or called "chink". If none of these things has ever happened to you, you
You are either Cherokee or you are not. There are not *part Cherokee.* American Indian is an ethnic group, Cherokee is a nation. Being *Cherokee* means you are an enrolled recognized member of 1 of the 3 Cherokee tribes which are federally recognized. Each tribe has different requirement for enrollment. It is proper to say, you are descended from a Cherokee ancestor or of American Indian descent if you are not enrolled.
@pensmoke, I understand what you are saying (I think). Looking at this subjectively, there's much validity to what you said. Anyone with 1/2 a brain can't argue, but people take offense. I was always told you're"part Cherokee." Since early childhood I have had a spirit of love and interest in the Native ways so I took it upon my self to educate/research as much as I could. I can now say that "part," is based in fact. Many people speak out of ignorance and don't care about the actual heritage.
This is so emotionally charged. What about if you just look it? Historically the children of a white man and native american woman were considered white. How do I know this? I just look it. It's no bed of roses. I don't think anyone that is traceable would be on any tribe roll for many people like me. I have no interest in making like an Indian. I have had to embrace that part of me and be proud of it. As far as being spiritual, no group of people have no monopoly on this.
I honestly stopped telling anyone about my Cherokee heritage for just the reason mentioned in this video/recording. EVERYONE seems to have Cherokee in them. One granpa (mom's dad) was half Apache, he died of sclerosis of the liver a few months before I was born, he was a raging alcoholic. My other Granpa was 2/3 Cherokee on (mom's granpa). We decend from the Ward and Ross Cherokee families, but I rarely tell ppl but I am proud of all my ancestors. Portugues, Scotts, English and Cherokee.
i know that josephus spoke on the cherokees as being, one of the lost tribes of israel, and did my research and found that they have very jewish roots, which makes them monothiestic. they say im part cherokee my great great grandfather i guess, but of what tribe? i don't know to be honest. i guess i would have to go through ancestry.com to find out, but im proud to be a chicano either way.
I agree with you...even though at first I was offended by this because my mother is roughly half and one of my great grandmothers on my father's side was full Cherokee...though my family tells me no more than that, I was searching for clues to my family's history when I ran across this...so you can see why I may have been insulted...your video does imply that if you aren't all you are none...that is to someone who is not paying attention...but I see your point...fake pride...
If I read you right, you are not on a rant about part-bloods, but about phonies and wanabe somebodys that make up psycho-babble, and phony lines to explain so-called facts about their (probably non-existant Indian heritage, and do not care enough to research the history and language. They, for the lack of something to make them special, decide that it is "cool" or fashionable to "become" Indian. I, like you, am probably not documentable, because around here in 1906 it damn sure wasn't see 2
Funny I feel both Pride and Shame reading all of what is said here. I am very mixed from every place on this earth yet the part i have always claimed is Native American.. I have both north and south American Native in me... I have Indian from the Caribbean and Spanish Isles. How do I not claim what I am the most... I am Native American! I am Jewish, I am English, I am African, I am East Indian, I am Portuguese... All I know of who I am is Native American, Please don't take that away from me! TY
Federal cherokee needs to leave the Lumbee tribe alone...leave the non federal cherokee alone..leave the freedman alone....leave the kentucky native americans alone...leave state recognized tribes alone....it is such a shame to see native americans such as the federal cherokee mistreating other native americans..shame shame...your hate shall not be in our name!!!
well everything you said was true ... My Mom was Certain we had a Cherokee Princess in the Family line ... but she did study and read much history of your people so she did respect the Cherokee
I too am 1/16th Cherokee. I too have grey eyes which were not always so. When I was younger (I'm 34 now), my eyes were saphire blue but changed when I turned 25. I have been told by elders of various tribes that this usually happens when your soul has aged. I also have 4 toris in my mouth that only happens to Indian women. I understand where this gentleman is coming from. You need to know your heritage. Be proud of where your family comes from. I am pround to call myself Cherokee.
I am 1/4 Cherokee, my grandmother was full. I dont claim it, i just acknowledge it. She was out of NC but settled in SC. I know i'm not accepted by the tribes, and i dont blame them. i look mostly white, i have cousins that dont look white. But even so, i fully support native causes and believe native land, such as it is now, is and should remain sovereign.
BTW, My wife was told she was a Indian Princess. She called Wilma Man killer and told her that and it started a war. She is related to Charles Thompson but the truth is there is no such thing as a Cherokee Princess. My wifes dentist who studies teeth in regard to indigenous people, did not believe she was a cherokee so he looked at her teeth and told," yes you are." Indian teeth are curved, roots are unique, somewhat difficult to deal with. Her family was on the trail of tears. Mine hid-a-way!
If you look a scientific evidence you find that most Indians near starved in winter. The smart Indians like Cherokee mixed and got into behavior that allowed them to winter in comfort! Spiritual in that the only Cherokee Chief that was 100% Cherokee was also a Christian and Pastor Charles Thompson or Oochalata, ᎤᏤᎳᏔ, in Cherokee. Wiser yes, they copied the best of the whites and left the rest.
The Cherokee did mix like no others. Being smarter than the rest they took on the better ways of the Euros. Dress, farming, ranching and industry. Even Ponce De Leon saw blue eyed blond Cherokees probably mixed with apparently Norseman pre-columbus! Cherokees are the only tribe that has their own written language so at Pow Wows what you are mainly seeing is Cherokee Dress and dance or something sketched by Euros or written by Euros regarding other tribes. So fake is the others not Cherokees.
I think Native American sovereignty is cool. Native Americans can recognize even white people as citizens of their nation, just like the U.S. does when it immigrates the world's races.
All tribes are now assimulated into main stream culture. The face of the Native American is forever changed. Look at the faces in old photos of indians and compare them to the faces of our modern people. I can see the diffence, can you?
When people ask me is I am Indian, I say yes. I am PART Tsalagi, but I am also part scottish and german. It is true, from the first pow wow I went to I have felt a strong tie to the Native part of my heritage, but to me, it is more irritating to have people say they are completely native, when it is just not true. I have worked hard to find ways to learn what I can of the language and the culture. It takes more than blood to be Native.
@pensmoke I definitely understand where you come from on this. I would exchange a few words on the subject of heritage with some of friends. The first memory I have is telling my friend back in 5th grade about my nipmuc name. She seemed shocked. Yet, she looked at me with those blue eyes, blonde hair and told me her (who knows which relative) was "part indian" There was only unexplainable frustration left in me at that point..

@Kayla13love1 me too. And since I am a Wicca, I have a lot in common, also inherit a bit, with the Cherokee. Wicca and Cherokee do practically the same kind of rituals. Just about, anyways. My grandma definitely has Cherokee, cuz she lost her eyebrows. She has no leg hair either.
@AlucardsCat No, a big resounding NO! The Cherokee traditional way is NOT anything like wicca/witchcraft. Too many New-agers are saying that and its a lie. Witchcraft/wicca is not practiced by the Cherokee people and there were always serious consequences for anyone who did practice witchcraft.
@AlucardsCat I seriously can not believe you!!!...for you to even compare Wicca and Cherokee is an insult!!!...and the fact that your grandma lost her eyebrows and has no leg hair is NO indication that she was Cherokee...were you born on the dark side of the moon???
@AlucardsCat a tsa s gi li is not a good thing in our Nation. You will have your back turned on you if you claim you are wiccan/witch. You can be a healer, know your herbs; kinda like you should in wicca..and yes there are the four corners, but it's not the same, believe me!!!!
So are you saying that if you're half Indian you're not Indian at all? When I was little my dad told me I'm "part Indian". My grate grandfather was Asa Crummel. Chief of the sand hill Cherokee Indians in New Jersey during his time. I'm just trying to find out more about that part of me and happen to stumble across this video :)
@Kayla13love1 Thats not what Im saying at all. Im not trying to be mean because you seem like a nice person but you are either not watching the whole video or you are misunderstanding what I am saying. My problem is with people who claim Native ancestry but instead of trying to learn the real heritage they are too lazy to do that so they make up their own. Naming themselves colorful "Indian" names (what they think an Indian name should sound like), and making up their own fake "tribes"
@pensmoke I so agree with you on this...we didn't find out about our Cherokee ancestry until after my Grandmother's book came out...we had been raised white and black dutch...imagine my shock...my mom's side is from lost tribe of Arkansas...cherokee/choctaw...dad's side...montana/west virginia...black foot...and I am proactive in learning about my heritage through family history,,,pow wows...and gatherings...you just can't depend on history bks...they lie.
@lemon23andvanilla55 Yep they lie because they were written by the "winners" so they only tell and show their own side in light and anything else in darkness.
@pensmoke You said it better in that paragraph than you did in the video. Half Cherokee. Both Grandmothers were Cherokee. Am I a member of the Tribe? No. I live in Texas. After the Trail of Tears some members of my family migrated to the Texas Panhandle then down to West Texas. Comanche territory. Don't worry I won't show up at a Pow Wow wearing anything fake. I will wear what I wear everyday. I don't have to prove anything by wearing the traditional clothing of the Cherokee.
My whole life when I was asked "Do you have native blood?". I always said yes... some. And yes Its easy for me to prove. But you say that's wrong for me to say. I am 1/16th (Iroquois, Navajo, and Muscogee) all mixed. my wife is one quarter Apache. But I have news for you, as proud as I am of my bloodline I have blonde hair and grey eyes... how the hell would I associate with my tribes anyway?! You make that obvious and confirm my fears, I hope my people are nothing like you if I meet with them.
@bambam11100 you are misunderstanding what I am saying. My problem is with people who claim Native ancestry but instead of trying to learn the real heritage they are too lazy to do that so they make up their own. Naming themselves colorful "Indian" names (what they think an Indian name should sound like), and making up their own fake "tribes"
@pensmoke Hey man, I listened to what you were saying again, I suppose I am being self conscious, so I need to apologize to you. I'm a big family man though and I've always been so proud of all my heritage. I was surprised and really stoked when I discovered my native heritage, then I remembered all the shit I learned in school, Allotment Act, Wounded Knee, ect. I feel vengeful! but then what do I do? I feel caught in the middle you know, I've never seen an Indian with blonde hair and grey eyes
Your problem is that you have a problem in the first place. Many people are "part" something. Weather they are educated about it or not does not discredit their heritage. No matter how much you don't like it.
i agree that people need to know more about their ancestry if they are going to go on a big to do abut it. my father however was a piece of shit and abandoned me so i am having to learn on my own. i have yet to go to a pow wow near me because i need a "real" dress. i dont want to make a fool of myself and i am learning the language. im sure most people hate me because im not 100 percent cherokee but thats ok. i think of cher and the sng half breed when it comes to all the hate
Due to records not being kept well enough in the past, many dont know their full histories except by word of mouth through family. Some of us "pretend indians" are proud, and trying to find repitible history on native americans.(Certainly not tought in school)Because of what we do know we are proud of our heritage, not just try-n to get in,or get benifits.
My Celtic Great Granddad married a Cherokee woman-traded a milk cow for her...so I am part Cherokee and Part Celtic( Irish ) I honor both blood lines.
What really gets me is southern blacks claims to be BlackFoot. The Black Feet is a small tribe in Montana! Being from Montana I can tell you that there are hardly any black people here. It really just isn't possible.
I am 25/100 Chippewa. My father is enrolled, but I'm not. I am so blond and fair skinned that I really don't see the point. I live and am from Montana. I would say a huge percentage have native american ancestry here because of the region. I can tell you that native americans hate when white people claim to be indian, when maybe they are like 1/16. I don't see why people are so ashamed of their european ancestery, that have to claim a pin drop of native blood.
I agree that those that "play" Indian are disrespectful. But I also find it offensive that those that are respectfully exploring their heritage (like myself), are lumped into the "players". I am not full blood, yet I have NC Cherokee blood from the other side. And as with you, I have not been able to get on the rolls, but am still digging for my connection. I know much of the history, the legends and the culture. I find daily inspiration from the spiritual aspects. How is this a negative thing?
A long time ago, a Cherokee chief wrote: " it is NOT the blood that makes an Indian but the heart that pumps it." I am 51% quantum but I have lighter skin and hair. I claim to be Indian and am proud of it. If you know any of the old spoken history of the Cherokee ancestors, you will find that some of the ancients actually had blonde hair and blue eyes.I face going back to the Mayans, they are portrayed on the walls of a temple. blonde hair, beards and turbans..Ani Yun Waiya..look it up yourself
Some people claim "part" as a way of showing respect to all of their heritage, be it Native, Irish,African, Asian. Taking pride in your lineage shouldn't be something to be pursicuted for. My ex, my son's mother was adopted off the rez in Lawton OK, Kiowa/Irish, all records are sealed. My present love is of Cherokee/Miami/Blackfoot/Crow heritage, is she to pick just one, or is she a mix? Part from her mother, part from dad. Learn & teach Heritage & Respect not racism, contempt & hate.
My great Grandmother IS Native American. You guys are offensive and assuming as fuck. My great grandmother is still alive as well, so don't you tell me I don't fucking know. There are pictures of her whole family (she had a lot of brothers and sisters) as well. She looked the whitest of them all. I never say I'm Native American, however. Europeans took this land through the right of conquest. Sorry, but that's just how it is.
We carry our heritage within us. Those who know do not speak, those who speak do not know. I think pensmoke is extremely correct.(and that's a southern accent, ya yankees) I agree. There are those of my own people who won't accept my Cherokee Choctaw heritage because i have dark red hair (the first dilution of the black color gene). Native peoples must embrace each other, and stop accepting "part Indian" or a stereotypical image Indian. We are Indian today, we define it for today.
Thanks for the clarrification, theres this blonde haired white guy that says he's a cherokee indian and he's always harping about how Mexicans dont belong here in USA... as if he's speaks for the indian nation...according to him the Native Americans hate our guts.
My father never told us that he and we were Cherokee until we were adults I believe because he didn't want to be discriminated against in a predominately white world. Let's be honest , people say "part" because all the "Natives" who want to make the distinction, like it's some sort of elite club or something. There was a European guy who thought like that too, and look what happened. Not pretty. Real "people" don't kick people out because they don't look the same or live in the same "hood".
you said it there are no "parts"...and i am Cherokee...the reservation i grew up on is in N.C. my Idian name is "HOWLS AT THE MOON" it was decided on the grounds of that I love hearing wolves howl at night and i would stay up and listen to the song they were making and evan do it myself the my grandfather told me that i possesed the spirit of the wolf ...i love my Cherokee bloodline and would never say im "Part",
you know its funny my daughter who is Cherokee by blood n by roll was born with snow white hair & skin and blue eyes... We also speak and write cherokee.... We know our heritage. We are not ignorant to the fake claims of Cherokee BUT we are really getting sick of having to prove it over n over n over again! PS you cant be part anything what your left leg is one n your right something else, you are or your not.
Born w/ thick blond hair, blue eyes, & white skin, I don’t look full blood Caucasian. My brother - darker, blue eyes & very dark hair - looks more Native American. We are a 16th Cherokee - born to a family that never spoke of our Native American ancestry. We are victims of our families fear and ignorance about what it means to be a Native American. Someone saying they’re "part" could be looking to talk about it because nobody ever did or would. I am proud to be of Cherokee ancestry.
Wow it is sad. My friend who is Irish and Cherokee, could put many full-blooded Cherokee to shame in the looks department. Her children are Irish, Cherokee and Italian, they honor the Cherokee heritage. So because they are dilute that makes them fake? One is a redhead, but genetically that can't be possible if she were Cherokee right? Have indigenous people not suffered enough, so as we feel the need to attack one another? Is it for land. or hunting grounds this time? Not, just jealousy.
I agree with this video. I understand where you are coming from. Yes I do say I am part Indian (1/2 Cherokee blood), but I do my best to learn all of the culture and make sure I am not "ignorant" so to speak. People tell me all of the time that they can see my Native American heritage in the way I look. It drives me crazy when they sit there and say, "I am Cherokee too", but you ask about it and they say oh I don't know I think my Great Great Uncle married a Cherokee.
There is no such thing as a Cherokee Princess. And only about 1 in 20 Blacks may have some NDN ancestry. And, What does it mean to be Cherokee/NDN in modern America? And, What about the descendants of renegades that didn't go on the reservations? What you're only a real NDN if the Federal government says you're a real NDN. That in & of itself is a form of genocide.
Here is the truth, a tribe is NOT a race, a tribe is a family...your tribal name is like your surname. So many people think native american is a race...and think people representing their documented blood tribal heritage is them claiming to be a "race". I do however think before you use your ancestors name you better honor them by learning and then passing on the REAL knowledge...honor ancestors first always...claim second and teach third...
pensmoke: You are right. My grandmother was half Cherokee Indian but because she was born and raised in Texas, not part of the Nation. Therefore, I'm and eighth Cherokee. My people, because it is a matriarchal society, came from South Carolina. I am not registered either nor do I think I can be. My
I have concluded that the white man's reason for claiming Cherokee is for the right to
claim their place in this great acient land.
My grandfather from my mother's side is full blooded Navajo. I don't know what my grandmother was, but my mom looks straight up Navajo. I don't.
However, I do have a bit of a problem with your "suave voice." Why are you trying to sound black? Many people who would find my comment racist, but I'm just telling it like it is. Otherwise would be bullshit.
@locknezmunster I talk the way I talk. If it offends you I would recommend going to another youtube channel because I dont plan on talking differently to please you.
@pensmoke OH, not brother. Don't misunderstand me. I have a problem with it, but you have a right to do as you please. I have grown tired of people sounding like black people. I've yet to meet a good black person.
@locknezmunster How can you sound "Black", you can't. You can sound, "ghetto" but not black. Besides, I don't think he sounds ghetto. He sounds like any other person.
@locknezmunster If your grandfather is full, you are a quarter and enrollable. Or, you are a liar. My grandfather is "full blooded" native, but that irrelevant. He, my dad, his siblings, their children, me, my siblings and my children are all enrolled. One sure way to know a liar right off the bat is when they talk about "how much" indian they are, and how indian they "look". As the guy on here says, indians don't come in parts. You either are, or you arent.
@brusum Here's the thing, brusum. I don't looke Indian. I don't claim to be Indian. I am American. Here is where white people get confused, please keep up.... I speak spanish, am I Mexican? My granfather (the Navajo) was born in Mexico. Is he Mexican? I speak Arabic, am I a terrorist? Why is it, that if I speak Spanish, I am a Mexican? Why am I not an American who is bilingual? Is it my black hair and last name? I speak Arabic, why don't they consider me a Palestinian? .......
Thank you very much for posting this video. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I would anger white people (who claim they are part Cherokee) when I would explain this to them.
I didn't know anything about Cherokees until I lived in Kansas. White residents claimed to be Cherokee, so naturally I thought that blonde hair, blue eyed white people were Cherokee. However, I aged and gained tremendous knowledge. There were a few you could tell, you can't get past significant traits.
@locknezmunster What significant traits are you referring to? My Grandmother looked white to me as a child as did her brothers except they had dark hair and hazel eyes. Are you referring to the fact that some mixed blood makes recessive traits become dominant?
One thing if you are really a cherokee native american indian than you know we mostly dwelled close to the east coast where the white men started settling into this country. My question is do you know the meaning of the term they called the native american woman - squaw? Exactly...that's how we became so inbred with the white because we were traded as well as furs, guns, and booze. We had no choice but doesn't take away our spirit or our legacy. My family changed their name to avoid prejudice.
@2248sparkles DO U SPEAK HEBREW OR HAVE A GREAT GRANDFATHER WHO DO, ALSO HAVE ANY ELDERS EVER SPOKE TO U ABOUT BEING AN ISRAELITE AND ABOUT JESUS AND JEWS BEING BLACK?
Okay, seriously-- NONE of us chose what family we'd be born into! Who are you to create rules about how people acknowledge their ancestry?? Telling people they've no right to the title "cherokee" or that they're acknowledging it all wrong. Our outward skin is just that-- outward-- and how we were born was entirely chance! Cut it out and love people. This message of yours is just silly.
@frithar Tribal affiliation is not just an ethnic identity, it is a national affiliation as well. REAL natives are dual citizens between the U.S. government and their tribal nation. There are more non-natives who pretend to be indian, or who straight up LIE about their ancestry or were lied to, than there are actual native americans in existence. This becomes a problem because the FAKE indians are the ones defining how the dominant culture views us, through their stereotypical portrayals.
thank you, but all my questions remain unanswered. it's a chore tracking down two grandmothers who were adopted, one being from virginia. all i know is, that waking up "and dancing down the street in manhatten" is difficullt
@jredtail44 Real indians keep within the family, it is illegal for non-natives to adopt native americans anymore. This law has been in place since the Indian Child Welfare act. There have been precious few natives adopted out to non natives, and it is very easy for those that have to retrace their roots. My kids know their great grandparents and see them regularly. This is more common than not in indian communities, that how you know who is real and who is a pretendindian.
I dont have a problem with ppl aknowledging their native ancestry. It doesnt change the fact that they are white or whatever. I find it amusing though when partial natives are more proud of their roots than some "full" ones
Wow. I would recommend you listen to some really good Native American Meditation music. When I start hating my Indian dad for being a loser I meditate about it. But I respect the fact you have the right to spread your misery though. Kudos to you.

Letyourlegsspeak 1 week ago
Human van

Ok so you have 1% NDN blood & no paper trail, go to a rez & live there for a yr or so, learn about us, your heritage, don't just buy a NDN t-shirt & dream catcher & think your walking the Red Road, cause your NOT!! Be more respectful of what we have left!!

The only people I have ever heard say 'being NDN is in your heart' are new-agers.

Being related by blood and land does not mean so much to these people today we are broken mostly uncivil and judged as if trying to get into a country club, so my gift has been knowing where my heart comes from and they are gone now though I have seen their pictures and it helps to understand why I am different and left behind.

Wiser yes, they copied the best of the whites and left the rest.
rattlesnakemilitia 2 months ago
The Cherokee did mix like no others. Being smarter than the rest they took on the better ways of the Euros. Dress, farming, ranching and industry. Even Ponce De Leon saw blue eyed blond Cherokees probably mixed with apparently Norseman pre-columbus! Cherokees are the only tribe that has their own written language so at Pow Wows what you are mainly seeing is Cherokee Dress and dance or something sketched by Euros or written by Euros regarding other tribes. So fake is the others not Cherokees.

There are those of my own people who won't accept my Cherokee Choctaw heritage because i have dark red hair (the first dilution of the black color gene). My father never told us that he and we were Cherokee until we were adults I believe because he didn't want to be discriminated against in a predominately white world. Let's be honest , people say "part" because all the "Natives" who want to make the distinction, like it's some sort of elite club or something.

I've yet to meet a good black person.
locknezmunster 3 months ago
@locknezmunster Well then you are a racist, which means your opinion is irrelevent. Good day, now.
pensmoke 3 months ago
@locknezmunster How can you sound "Black", you can't. You can sound, "ghetto" but not black. Besides, I don't think he sounds ghetto. He sounds like any other person.

@locknezmunster I don't think he sounds black. Not to be racist, but he sounds like he probably looks white.

@mandylynn79 If I am 'white' then why am I making a video about NDNz?
pensmoke 3 months ago

There were a few you could tell, you can't get past significant traits.
locknezmunster 3 months ago

@2248sparkles DO U SPEAK HEBREW OR HAVE A GREAT GRANDFATHER WHO DO, ALSO HAVE ANY ELDERS EVER SPOKE TO U ABOUT BEING AN ISRAELITE AND ABOUT JESUS AND JEWS BEING BLACK?
parkkbaby62 3 months ago

This becomes a problem because the FAKE indians are the ones defining how the dominant culture views us, through their stereotypical portrayals.

thank you, but all my questions remain unanswered. it's a chore tracking down two grandmothers who were adopted, one being from virginia. all i know is, that waking up "and dancing down the street in manhatten" is difficullt
jredtail44 3 months ago
@jredtail44 Real indians keep within the family, it is illegal for non-natives to adopt native americans anymore. This law has been in place since the Indian Child Welfare act. There have been precious few natives adopted out to non natives, and it is very easy for those that have to retrace their roots. My kids know their great grandparents and see them regularly. This is more common than not in indian communities, that how you know who is real and who is a pretendindian.
brusum 3 months ago
@brusum Sadly the ones that get adopted out are the sick ones. I'm not so sure about the "keep within the family" part there....
