@RobR386 I just went in myself. I think if you got stopped you may have to sign the visitor's book but I just walked in.
I am not a student of this University but member of another uni my card would came in use if I was asked for it. We don't have a paternoster I know it is a student and tourist attraction.
@DianeDi Its only dangerous is people go stupid on them, they are faster than elevators for floor access. If you keep still and keep off the edges it should be ok. They are intended to only take people.
