Why is the surge of weapons and money in the hand of "insurgents" in Iraq (that's what lessened the violence, bribes, that and fewer people around to kill) going to be any different? How did it go when we supported Iraq against Iran? When we supported the Shah in Iran? Just keep going back.

Al Qa'eda wants us in Afghanistan. I can't imagine a place they want us in more except Russia in the winter or maybe Antarctica. But the logistics of enticing us to one of the few worse places are just a bit too much for a band of religious zealot criminals.

The way I see it, we can either send 300,000 more troops over there and completely take over the region, or we can just get the hell out of there. These are clear-cut options one is right and one is wrong. But to take half measures and send in 30,000 more troops doesn't make any sense exept to extend the time frame that we are involved in this mess.
