PORQUE NO HACEIS UN DOCUMENTAL DE CARTAGENA DE INDIAS CON BLAS DE LEZO CONTRA LA ARMADA INVENCIBLE INGLESA???PORQUE SEGURO QUE EN LA ESCUELA NO OS CONTARON LA MALLOR DERROTA DE LA HISTORIA DE INGLATERRA¡¡¡JA,JA.....
The vast majority of the ships were not combat were troop transport. Spain wanted to invade England, not to fight at sea. Besides this "" defeat"" of A war that in the end won Spain was nothing to Spain already it would be still some 70 years but the first world power.
The British as usual magnifying his WINS according to the Spanish writings of 127 ships sank about 30 and "only" "2 ships were sunk in combat others were sunk by storms and colliding against the cliffs." They are so stupid that they believe that Drake was playing bowling and gave no importance.
Englishmen are ridiculous lol pathetic pathetic pathetic but every time I remember you belong to Europe, I removed the desire to be European, what's up, you won at Trafalgar? What about all the times you kill? and you, as cowardly as always, I wish the worst, you are a country at the time (like everyone else) had a good time, but why not digisteis you?, - "In my domains nunva puts the sun ". They are large and the Spanish artists, and much more I can say about your shitty country,
@LaserBeam002 lol, is that really an empire? the great British Empire, which were to conquer Portugal with all the nobility and dignity of the world, You son of a bitch, BITCH YOU AND ALL YOUR ENGLISH RACE OF SHIT ALBINOS bastards, What the fuck are you doing here IN MY COUNTRY ALL SUMMERS? EE, invade the beaches. AJJAJA I laugh with you and your country without any art.
To the Britishers historically interested in selling this as a great naval victory, overcoat for motives of victory of FAITH. Actually mythicise this, more even that Trafalgar, when Trafalgar yes was the great naval victory and in the way they forgot Drake's defeat with the "Counter
This campaign was a madness from the beginning, to gather to the troops in Flandes? The only one that could be to handle this company was the admiral Bazan, but dead just before, Philip II get at the time to the Duke of Alba (who was not marine) and that the last thing that wants was this mission. With all ,that the only one serious clash that had the Navy against Drake, almost dont cause falls, then the time and nonetheless they turned 83 ships.
@mrmemanme you are so stressful, i repeat you la armada fail for the fucking storms. the english empire was bigger than spanish cause the english only conquer country without real soldiers, you fought against kangaroos (australia), penguins (canada) and monkeys (africa) but never against european soldiers and spain yes. and spain defeated england at the height of her power, remember cartagena de indias. in these time the english ''dominate'' the seas.
The english dont talk about their defeat in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) in 1741...
They are so embarrased that THEIR GREATEST FLEET of 186 ships and 28000 men was defeated by 6 spanish ships and 3000 spanish soldiers! LOL at England!
You glorify a triumph which is not yours, in 1588 the weather destroyed the Armada, not England...instead, 1741 was a true hispanic victory! YOUR greatest humilliation!
What a story that are mounted the English with this battle of the canal. For starters most of the Spanish ships were cargo and transport because it intended was a to invasion by surprise. Besides Spain nothing else it was a losing battle in a war that lasted until 1609 and that won Spain. The Spanish hegemony lasted about 60 years and his empire is broad many more, and England was not really the first power until the end of the seven years war
@mrmemanme Lol no. Check out Trafalgar numbers please, which were very equal side by side, instead Cartagena de Indias was the defeat of the LARGEST BRITISH FLEET EVER ASSEMBLED (Not surpassed until D Day, 1944) of 186 ships and 27.000 men and the victory of 6 spanish ships and 3000 colombian & spanish soldiers.
@Komnenit mate, there were 26 ships of the line vs 6 Spanish ships of the line and gun batteries on the shore, anybody can win a siege in the 1700's, look up siege of Gibraltar, France and Spain vs Britain, you had 47 ships of line the line, and 33000 men, more men and ships then Britain had at Cartagena de Indias!
@plusultra86 first people to reach america, natives (from mogloia/ russia) then the vikings. First country to reach the ocean, what is the ocean? first man to go around the world was portugesse, people had been using marines for thousands of years, you won a few battles, we won more. All in all not a god record.
@mrmemanme The Vikings were able to arrive early America ... but not prove anything, did not find anything, Spain did almost all the charts of all the oceans of the world, demonstrated with food of the Americas, with maritime routes ...
Magellan was Portuguese, yes. The old man was funded by the crown of Spain, sailed from the Spanish port and the sailors were Spanish.
Spain was the first world power in the ages 16 17 and 18.
UK single in the 19th century and mid 20th century.
@plusultra86 Natives go to america first, then Vikings made a settlement then withdrew. Spain drew map of the seas, have a gold star! So Magellan was the first around the world, and he was Portuguese. Spain may have been in power for longer but the British empire was bigger, at the moment, you are in economic melt down and Brtian is fine.
@plusultra86 Britain had empire in 1700's 1800's and 1900's. Britain's empire was far larger, rememberer the armada, Trafalgar, cape st Vincent, siege of Gibraltar. We also saved you from Napoleon!
@mrmemanme All these battles in the late 18 and 19, when the Spanish empire was in decline by internal wars between the Spanish.
Still boast of garbage. The Battle of Cartagena de Indias (1741) to the command of Admiral Edward Vernon died about 11000 English, many more than Spanish at Trafalgar, Gibraltar and Cape St. Vincent together.
And United Kingdom being an empire, and Spain in decline, took a lot of land in southern U.S., as Florida was in Spain until 1821.
Siedge of breda 1625 11.000 anglo-duch infantery dead or captured (captured were burned for heretgis :P) english armada, other 11.000 dead, Battle of cartagena de indias 1741, 9.000-11.000 dead+ other 7.000 wounded, English invasions of rio de plata total of 5.000 deads. English expedition to Cadiz by Edwar Cedil (1625) other 7.000 english causalities + 60 ships lost or captured LOOL. Battle of Toulon 1707, other 10.000 causalities. 5 english armadas in azores... all pawnded. ;)
@belac0r92 Well done you won some battles, but really Spain was s spent force by the mid 1700's onwards, we beat you AND the French at Trafalgar and you AND the French during the siege of Gibraltar, the Spanish Armada was an epic failure. Oh by the way, we own Gibraltar. On top of this and many other victories we still saved you in the Napoleonic wars.
@mrmemanme only thing that english made good was trafalgar and gibraltar. the spanish armada fail for the bad weather and remember that in 1589 you sent the english armada and fail. and remember cartagena de indias, 23000 english soldiers and 186 ships vs 3000 spanish soldiers and 6 ships and ENGLAND FAIL.
@masquesergio It was 29 vs 6, not 186, the majority of British ships were transport, also it was a siege, anybody can win a siege! For example Gibraltar, 60000+ French and Spanish vs 5-7000 British and SPANISH AND FRENCH FAIL!
@masquesergio 33000 soldiers 30000 marines and sailors. But if you don't count soldiers then it is still 3 times more than the British had at Cartagena de Indias.
@mrmemanme Stop going on about Cartinga des indas, it was only a minor victory, on par with the British victory than Gibraltar, also England was not at the height of its power in the mid 18 century, it was only at its height in the mid 19th century (certainly not until it defeated the French in the Napoleonic wars (which by the way we saved you in.)) Any way, yes armada was beaten by a storm but not after it had been forced to flee north by the English (and to a lesser extend the Dutch) fleet.
@masquesergio Well, it was a great victory, by all rights we should have lost and England invaded. However we were able to drive you north and prevent you from landing, and then fortunetly the storm took its toll.
an empire in 17th century? xd... well. Spain had an european empire. 2/3 of Itally, territories in france, Belgigum, luxemburg, lands in germany, Portugal.... all this was ruled for 200 years. when had England an european empire? is so easy to conquere penguins and cangurus, but what about platinate camping? Spain conquered all west germany alone.
@belac0r92 "an empire in 17th century? xd... well. Spain had an european empire. "
well yes and no. What Spain had was the arse end of the Holy Roman Empire. The latter cost so much to keep under control that Philip II was unable to pay for a decent invasion fleet and ended up sending the armarda lite of 1588.
The Spanish Catholic Priests came to slaughter & kill - they got their arses kicked by the smaller fleet & more advanced English, who aren't religious nuts.
Whose side is God on, he can't decide? no ones ? Phillip II thought God would be on his side but the Armada failed. The repulse of Spanish naval might gave heart to the Protestant cause across Europe, and the belief that God was behind Protestant cause was shown by striking of commemorative medals that bore the inscription," He blew with His winds, and they were scattered". But the U.S. in 1776 thought God was with Washington against Britain. Everyone claims God's on their side. God imaginary?
the spanish ships were very superior to the english in battle, the english could not possibly defeat or scatter the spanish. In fact another Spanish armada landed in Cornualles, burned the English cities there, and another one landed in Falmouth, but again they could not receive support due to storms and had to return. A big invasion of England coming from Spain was simply not possible without a great deal of good luck, as weather forecasts did not exist.
@stalinwasright I bet you you're not even Christian. You contradict Christian teaching numerous times within your comment. Perhaps you need to educate yourself.
@arcades687 Hmm, well seeing as it was the protestants that removed 7 books and changed words in scripture, it makes me think differently. The Bible is the product of the Catholic Church, you are basically taking the book from the author and claiming the author doesn't know what he was meaning by what he wrote. You seem like such a nice charitable person.
Looks like another good episode. The defeat of the Spanish Armada began the slow decline of the Spanish Empire & signaled the rise of the British Empire. But wasn't the Roman Empire & Genghis Khan's Mongol empire larger than the Spanish Empire?
Only 3000 Spanish soldiers defeated 23000 english soldiers in cartagena de indias ( 1741). the greatest english defeat, the King was so humiliated he tried to hide it. And lets not forget the Spanish victory in the Canary Islands where Lord Nelson lost an arm.
I find this documentary, as with many Western documentaries, to be extremely Euro-centric. They said, "The Spanish Fleet was the mightiest ever assembled" and "Never before had the world seen such a concentration of naval power."
That is actually untrue. The Chinese Navy during the early Ming Dynasty had more battle-ready, high quality and cannon-armed warships than all of Europe's navy combined, led under Admiral Zheng He.
@Ravensteinzh It would of been the mightiest fleet ever assembled, to them. Do you really think that Europeans from the 16th century even had a clue about this history of China, other than a piece of land drawn on their trade route maps? Also, the fleet Zheng He commanded is often exadurrated.
@assasincomedy You missed my point by a mile. It isn't even about China or any European country involved in this video. It is about the Euro-centric perspective and viewpoint the documentary is made from.
Exadurrated is not a word, I think you mean exaggerated. Yes it is possible the fleet under Zheng He is exaggerated in terms of size, but isn't the greatly Spanish Armada exaggerated as well? At least in China there are still the super-sized shipyards used to build Zheng He's ships.
@Ravensteinzh Of course it is going to be given a Euro-centric perspective. It's a european film. The fact is, not much is known to us about Zheng He's fleet. We have a rough number of ships he commanded, but as I said, the legend is often exaggerated. We have much more evidence supporting the Spanish Armada. Anyone can point a finger to the Persian fleet during the Persian-Greek wars and say it was the biggest. Yes, I mispelt exaggerated.
As usual from a British documentary, we see the obvious bias in history against the Catholic Spanish. The Spanish are shown as 'Oppressive Catholics' while the British 'Fighting for freedom'. The Spanish were sailing to overthrow the illegitimate Protestant ruler, and to cut off the material support the English were giving to the United Provinces (which it helped to rebel). Not to mention to cut off English attacks on Spanish trade and settlements in the New World.
@assasincomedy Only illegitimat in catholic eyes and The United Provinces Were the present day Netherlands who were subjected to a reign of terror for not wanting to be Spanish
@waikukujk Only illegitimate in Catholic eyes? Any person from Canada to Russia can have their view on what's legitimate and what's not. The fact is, the Catholic Church was the foundation of Western civilization. All laws were based on the rules and morals given by the Catholic Church. What do you honestly expect me to say when protestants install their own queen on the throne and claim that she is legitimate, when by all standards of the time, she clearly was not?
@assasincomedy The foundation of western civilisation??? So Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Virgil, Pliny, Marcus Aurelius etc had nothing to do with it then?????
@cuzcatlan36 You're basing that on what exactly - fawlty towers? I wouldn't be surprised if the Spanish are working in yor kitchen though taking into account that English cuisine usually consists of shit and chips.
english tard ppl... dont you know about blas de lezo?? he destroyed the biggest army on the whole mundial history... 3 spanish ships against 186 english ships... thats what happen with your fucking rotten teeth
check it out, really... write: Blas de Lezo Cartagena de Indias English...
whahaha you idiot english ,, do you really think that you have sonk the spanish armada ??? how foolish of you your country had almost no ships at that time !!!
People from Holland the WATERGEUZEN has destroyd the entier spanish armada with very little ships with only 1 canon on it .. What a damn idiots are you to think that you would stand a chance against the armada pffff chance your history books !!!!! And by the way your country has been rulled by a dutch king to haha ... SUCKERS
@dhockproduction Your comment is just so funny - I don't disagree; it's just funny. There are spanish people staying near my house so I can picture you shouting it in a heavily exaggerated accent lol.
@mrmemanme The only idiot around here is you for failing to understand what I wrote. I said that it was a shame you didn't invade Spain because you were too weak at that time. If you were stronger than those bastards & invaded them, then that would be cool.
@mrmemanme They murdered millions of native Indians & destroyed their cultures, lifestyles & languages & you failed to see how evil these catholic pagans are?
@Prophet4YAHWEH the Spanish mixed with the natives, you're messing with the Protestants of England, which eliminated the natives of North America and invented the apertheid. English and Protestants in general never did good because they are a piece of shit
@LUONG4YAHWEH State your documentation to such hideous accusations. You should know by now that the accuser/prosecuter must have the burdon of evidence to regard the accusation as fact. From what I see you're just another one of those ignorant of historical fact, who base their entire understanding of history on John Foxe's 'Book of Matyrs' and the Black Legend.
@assasincomedy Ohh, so the mass murder & enslavement of scores of millions of native Indians in the New World did not occur under the Spanish? And what happened to the existing cultures & languages before the evil Spanards came? What happened to them? Why were they wiped off the face of the Earth forever? Why did the Catholic Spanish Inquistion burned priceless historical documents (including the Bible) in both the Old & New Worlds? Why were people put to death for praying in a native tongue?
@LUONG4YAHWEH Oh, go away. The last thing I want is another anti-catholic bigot. How do you expect to me to give you an explanation, when you shove at least 6 anti-catholic attacks in your comment? 'scores of millions of native Indians' Huge exadurration. There wasn't even that many native indians living in the New World, buddy.
@LUONG4YAHWEH For all the mistakes, for all the failures, for all the crimes committed, and even allowing for the Crown's motives of practicality and self-service - in its overall performance Spain, in relation to the American Indian, need offer no apology to any other people or nation".
@LUONG4YAHWEH "Spain's three centuries of tutelage and official concern for the welfare of the American Indian is a record not equaled by other Europeans in overseas government of peoples of lesser, or what were considered lesser, cultures.
@LUONG4YAHWEH Historian Philip Wayne Powell in his book Tree of Hate: Propaganda and Prejudices Affecting United States Relations with the Hispanic World, argued that Spain's official concern and educational efforts toward the American Indians were not equaled by any other European colonizing power:
@assasincomedy Go ahead & try to cover up the enormous crimes of the Great Whore of Revelation 17 (the Vatican), buddy, as you guys have always been doing with the children rape sex scandals. No one will ever believe you.
Thanks God YAHWEH for the freedoms of expression, the press & education in our modern-day time so everyone can know about the true ugly face of you Catholic heretics. Too bad we don't live in the Dark Ages when you Catholic murderers can get away with anything you do. :-)
@LUONG4YAHWEH No one will ever believe me? Hmm, would that include the 1.2 billion Catholics in the world? More people are converting from hateful fundamentalist protestantism to the true faith every year. The funny thing is, history seems to be on our side. You can make ridiculous claims all you want, 'Inquisition killed 50 million', 'True chuch was underground', but you have absolutely zilch factual evidence to prove it. We have apostolic Christianity, you have man made beliefs 200 years old.
@assasincomedy I'm not a Protestant, Einstein. And yes, all those 1.2 billion Bible dumb Catholics fulfill God YAHWEH's prophecies about the narrow & straight path to the Kingdom of Heaven having VERY FEW saved folks while the path to destruction will experience the MAJORITY of mankind going down it.
I have no man-made doctrines like your Catholic Church of Satan pratices on a daily basis. I only look towards the Bible as my source for God YAHWEH's words & I strongly suggest you do the same.
@LUONG4YAHWEH Yes you are protestant, by definition. You are not Eastern Orthodox or Catholic, therefore you are protestant. Anyways, I'm done here. God Bless, you will be in my Mass intentions for tomorrow.
@assasincomedy Don't insult me! I don't go by your man-made labels, so I don't care what you call me. I'm a YAHWAHIST who worships God YAHWEH, not your Anti-Christ Pope or some dead person. And no, you will NEVER find me in your demonic blamesphamous Mass ever!
You better repent before God YAHWEH comes back to punish you evil Catholic pagans!!! Repent now before it's too late! Also, your refusal to answer my Bible questions means that I'm right about your false "Bible." Better REPNT NOW! Amen
@assasincomedy BLAH BLAH BLAH...pray tell when you will ever address any of my questions or refute whatever I've said. You know that you Catholic pagans are in open rebellion against God YAHWEH's laws don't you? Better repent before it's too late, my friend, for He's coming back any moment now. Amen.
@LUONG4YAHWEH The Inquisition burnt books that were damaging to the Faith, for example, protestant works of huge exadurrations and lies, most notably "Foxe's Book of Martyrs". The Inquisition burned Bibles that had been illegitimately edited, words being removed, changed, etc. They had been falsified.
@assasincomedy BALONY!!! The evil Catholic Church of Satan murdered anyone who disobeyed it, Catholics included! Bibles were burn along with any brave soul who translated it from the Latin, Greek & Hebrew!
False versions of the Bible? Ohh you mean the one which your Catholic Church of Satan publishes full of errors & lies? You know the payment of changing God YAHWEH's holy words, don't you?
@LUONG4YAHWEH Yeah yeah, keep on rambling with your pathetic accusations. Keep denying history buddy, it only makes you look more and more like a moron. What do you expect me to do now? I told you the facts, you just make more fallacious claims. Perhaps you should thank the Church for the Bible. Go pick up a Catholic Bible and read it, that's right, the Bible that doesn't have books removed and words edited to support 400 year old protestant heresy.
@assasincomedy WOW!!! So relate to us what your Catholic "Bible" did to the 2nd Commandment about NOT MAKING IDOLS to worship & the 10th Commandment by breaking it into two to make up for the lost of the 2nd Commandment. Want to correct yourself about you Catholic heretics not changing God YAHWEH's holy words, my lying Catholic friend? You know the penalty for changing His holy words & lying, don't you?
Too bad for you that I study my Bible unlike 99.999% of you Bible-dumb Catholics.
@mrmemanme In case you're wondering, I'm a Free Vietnamese living in America but I don't care much about this rebellious country or any other country that fails to obey God YAHWEH. You're lucky that I haven't been more harsh on you because I'm currently flittering with a pretty White English girl so I'm giving you a free pass here.
@mrmemanme What's her name? LOL!!! What are you jealous or something?
I'm interested in History & totally hate it when idiots like you try to change it with your cheap revisionist crap. I also use the Internet to preach the Bible against false man-made doctrines like Catholism. Also, I've been able to convert two people while the rest of the non-Elects are doomed! So you're wrong, bud :-)
@mrmemanme Why would I be making things up that I'm flittering with a pretty White English girl? I'm a Christian, I don't lie out of fear of going to Hell.
Also, I don't give a d*mn how many of the non-Elects I scared off with my fire & brimestone preaching for they have no Grace to began with, you Bible-dumb moron. You're a typical noisy Brit atheist. I'm only interested in saving the Elect, not the non-Elect
Also, isn't bedtime for you? Isn't your boyfriend waiting for you in bed? LOL!!!
@mrmemanme Of course you must be a burning faggot since you're an English boy. And thanks for the committment about my orginiality. No, I'm my own script writer.
You're a Christian? The "Christianity" of today means nothing! So-called Christians hardly speak out against the Vatican, homosexuals, divorce & remarriage, teenage rebellion, etc...So there's your "Christianity."
I'm doing more harm than good for Christianity? Christianity is so strong NO ONE or nothing can harm it, fool!
@Prophet4YAHWEH good bye, i also hope your day and week for that matter is enjoyable. i apologise if i insulted you in any way. this is not sarcasm. i am sorry i do not share your views, and hope to speak to you again in the future.
@mrmemanme OK, my turn to apologize. Sorry for all the stupid name-callings. I was confused as to why you insulted me after I've shown you nothing but respect & kindness. Here's wishing you the best of luck in everything & may you walk with God YAHWEH so we can see each other in the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen.
this episode said that the Royal navy was out numbered but in books that i read it was the Armada that was out numbered and this was before the battle started, so eihter they are lying to make Brits look good or there is missing evidence
@TheRevanchrist fact.. the english were outnumbered.. but not by much.. it is propaganda of course to expound the numbers.. the truth is.. tho the spanish had the most.. england had the best equipment and most experianced sailors. Spain expected (and this is not an exageration at all) God to win for them.. they really believed (the catholics) that they were right and would win. i would loved to have been able to hear how they explained the loss ..
THEY SHOE THE SOLDIERS OF SPAnish aRMAdA aS TEETHLESS DIRTY PPL, TYPICAl english bullshit, if it wSNT FOR PORTUGUESE BRITS COULD FOERGET EVER HAd aNY POSSESSIONS, WE MApEd caNAda, AustraLIA anD NEW ZeALaNd waY before then dutch or brits in sixteen century yeaR TWENTY TWO., we knew aBOUT CanADA. If it wasn't for the bad weather and the spanish armada would have won England wouldn't have settled their 13 colonies therefore the United States would have never existed and there wouldn't be stupid white racists like there are now. England just got lucky and the wind was in their favor.
@XxXAngelOfPainXxX if the english were "more sophiticated n skilled navigators" why did blas de lezo humilliated vernon in the battle of cartagena de indias despite bein outnumbered by the english??

The outcome of this battle would have been much diffrent had the Marquis de Santa Cruz been alive, he's the one that proposed the idea of an Armada to conquer England. Santa Cruz was Spain's most experienced and best commander at sea, with many victories under his belt. Instead the command was given to the Duke of Medina Sidonia, a man without any experience at sea, being a land commander all his life. Mistakes like these along with poor preparation and over confidence doomed the armada.
Hola amigos, peace for alls. I don't know what was with your Elisabeth I, when english people como every yeard to visit Spain to Santiago de Compostela inthis times, to declare warr, I think she had some of Geoerges Bush second in her. When I see her, she looks some reptilian in her face
In that war, the Spanish Navy was damaged, does not not destroy, for the tempests, in fact in the surroundings of Dover the Spanish fleet won sidesaddle. And what it is not necessary to to forget is that that war gained Spain, England yielded before the risk of a new attempt of invasion. Please English men, we have been owners of the world four centuries, and you pirates to the plunder, do not forget it.

BB is the best history series EVER and i hate learning but really it is i mean when you think of a battle you just think oh britain won...again BUT no this you see how we won by fractions and the different tactics and all that really interesting
I love the story of the Spanish Armada. I'm from Plymouth, and half the streets are named after the Armada and related events and people. I'm really interested in the history of my city, and I find this documentary pretty awesome.
If you have any questions about anything historical then you should drop by our channel. We're a group of amateur historians and it might be helpful if you have any questions about this documentary or any other topics you want to learn about.

navy" or "English Armada"

You should better search for the Battle of Cartagena de Indias, 1741.
And of course, Blas de Lezo; a true hero.
After that you may keep 1588, which was a victory of the weather, not of England.

@mrmemanme Lol no.

@mrmemanme Spanish Empire, centuries 16, 17 and 18.
Century British Empire half of the 19 ans 20.
When Spain conquered the world and the oceans, united kingdom was rubbish.
During the 18th century United Kingdom attempted to destroy the Spanish Empire until the 19th century failed.
Remember
Battle of pensancola
Battle of Cartagena de Indias
Battle of Almansa
With Spanish victory.
Spain is emerging from the crisis that the whole of Europe, not been tapped, such as Greece, Ireland or Portugal.

mrmemanme 1 month ago
@mrmemanme All these battles in the late 18 and 19, when the Spanish empire was in decline by internal wars between the Spanish.
Still boast of garbage. The Battle of Cartagena de Indias (1741) to the command of Admiral Edward Vernon died about 11000 English, many more than Spanish at Trafalgar, Gibraltar and Cape St. Vincent together.
And United Kingdom being an empire, and Spain in decline, took a lot of land in southern U.S., as Florida was in Spain until 1821.

Oh by the way, we own Gibraltar. On top of this and many other victories we still saved you in the Napoleonic wars.

@mrmemanme only thing that english made good was trafalgar and gibraltar. the spanish armada fail for the bad weather and remember that in 1589 you sent the english armada and fail. and remember cartagena de indias, 23000 english soldiers and 186 ships vs 3000 spanish soldiers and 6 ships and ENGLAND FAIL.
masquesergio 1 month ago
@masquesergio It was 29 vs 6, not 186, the majority of British ships were transport, also it was a siege, anybody can win a siege! For example Gibraltar, 60000+ French and Spanish vs 5-7000 British and SPANISH AND FRENCH FAIL!

Ravensteinzh 5 months ago
@Ravensteinzh "Never before had the world seen such a >>> CONCENTRATION <<< of naval power"
nokiadtd 5 months ago
@Ravensteinzh It would of been the mightiest fleet ever assembled, to them. Do you really think that Europeans from the 16th century even had a clue about this history of China, other than a piece of land drawn on their trade route maps? Also, the fleet Zheng He commanded is often exadurrated.
assasincomedy 5 months ago
@assasincomedy You missed my point by a mile. It isn't even about China or any European country involved in this video. It is about the Euro-centric perspective and viewpoint the documentary is made from.
Exadurrated is not a word, I think you mean exaggerated. Yes it is possible the fleet under Zheng He is exaggerated in terms of size, but isn't the greatly Spanish Armada exaggerated as well? At least in China there are still the super-sized shipyards used to build Zheng He's ships.
Ravensteinzh 5 months ago
@Ravensteinzh Of course it is going to be given a Euro-centric perspective. It's a european film. The fact is, not much is known to us about Zheng He's fleet. We have a rough number of ships he commanded, but as I said, the legend is often exaggerated. We have much more evidence supporting the Spanish Armada. Anyone can point a finger to the Persian fleet during the Persian-Greek wars and say it was the biggest. Yes, I mispelt exaggerated.
assasincomedy 4 months ago
As usual from a British documentary, we see the obvious bias in history against the Catholic Spanish. The Spanish are shown as 'Oppressive Catholics' while the British 'Fighting for freedom'. The Spanish were sailing to overthrow the illegitimate Protestant ruler, and to cut off the material support the English were giving to the United Provinces (which it helped to rebel). Not to mention to cut off English attacks on Spanish trade and settlements in the New World.
assasincomedy 5 months ago
@assasincomedy Only illegitimat in catholic eyes and The United Provinces Were the present day Netherlands who were subjected to a reign of terror for not wanting to be Spanish
waikukujk 5 months ago

@mrmemanme AHH!!! So you're probably are a sodomite!
AHAHAHAA!!! Thought you mentioned that the other comment would be your last one and now this.
LOL!!! Look who's suffering from some kind of mental disorder now. LOL!!!
So typical of British guys. They lost their beloved Empire so now, they're nothing but grumpy losers bashing whoever comes on hand. LOL!!!
Bye bye, sir. Hope you have a wonderful day :-)

TheRevanchrist 9 months ago
@TheRevanchrist fact.. the english were outnumbered.. but not by much.. it is propaganda of course to expound the numbers.. the truth is.. tho the spanish had the most.. england had the best equipment and most experianced sailors. Spain expected (and this is not an exageration at all) God to win for them.. they really believed (the catholics) that they were right and would win. i would loved to have been able to hear how they explained the loss ..

If it wasn't for the bad weather and the spanish armada would have won England wouldn't have settled their 13 colonies therefore the United States would have never existed and there wouldn't be stupid white racists like there are now. England just got lucky and the wind was in their favor.

Mistakes like these along with poor preparation and over confidence doomed the armada.
themailman43 11 months ago
It was a national tragedy for Spain - but the English sailors were left to die at sea, rather then be paid.

I love the story of the Spanish Armada. I'm from Plymouth, and half the streets are named after the Armada and related events and people. I'm really interested in the history of my city, and I find this documentary pretty awesome.
