@SoSassy234 Well, it's difficult to find a vocalist who's great at blending in (crucial to being part of an a capella group), as well as an "amazing" soloist. The best thing to do would be for the group to audition soloists to do them justice. Otherwise, they're left choosing among backup singers to lead up the group. Apparently they chose the latter option. She's not that bad, anyway.
sorry grammakat but the more i try to gleam some good out of this video it just depresses me even more. every time she says mind i cringe and she doesnt even try to match regina's accentuation. also, she shouldnt be nervous singing in some house somewhere. its not like she is auditioning or something. sorry, it just bothers me that so much more could have been done, like the enlisting of a better vocalist!
I know this is a reply to an old comment, but I'm researching all the versions I can find for an arrangement I'm doing of this song.
Nerves may be part of the problem, but I'm pretty sure the reason the soloist flounders has more to do with uncertainty in the bass. You can hear the bass searching in the background, particularly when the block oohs start ("I hear in my mind..."). When the foundation isn't there and in tune, any soloist is going to struggle. In my opinion.
thanks dr. i hear what you're speaking about. the bass isnt exactly solid. i was so distracted with the soloist that i couldnt hear them until i focused in...ok. i suppose she does deserve a little more credit than given her.
i agree too, lead singer ist really strong enough for such a powerful accompaniment, it really is just awesome how that is accapella, awsome!!! genius song too.
yeah, i agree...it sounds like the range of the song was in her break. the backround singers are really good...i'm pretty sure she's really good...but just probably not that certain range.
This is fun guys!!! I like it! Go check out A Cub Bellas versions!!!!

Is it a rule the soloists arent't good when the choir is? The choir is AMAZING. The soloist? The exact opposite.

thank you sassy. someone who realizes that the background should drop the vocalist even faster than if it was hot. lol
