For a very long period of time Pakistan played a broker role between US and China when these countries lacked direct contact and Pakistan a close US ally during cold war was asked to play broker role by the americans. These relationships found some meaning when the common enemy India grew militarily and china did everything to supply arms and tech know how to Pakistan to keep India engaged with it.
