it isn't a mellophone for those who say it is, it uses a french horn mouthpiece with out the need of an adapter which a mellophone requires if you want to use a french horn mouthpiece instead of a trumpet mouthpiece. it also looks different.
That is clearly a marching french horn. And YES there is a difference between a marching french horn and a mellophone. He is clearly using a french horn mouthpiece WITHOUT an adapter. A marching mellophone CAN'T take a mellophone or trumpet mouthpiece because the shank is too small.
are u really asking if they hav mellophone mouthpieces? Of course they do i've never played a mellophone with my F Horn ever altough you could with an adapter.
i agree he should probably use a melophone mouthpiece instead but i was just saying its not unommon for french horn mouthpieces are used. (as the mellophone is the 'marching' version of a french horn)
i use a trumpet mouthpiece, but i cant really remember what size it is at the moment. and musicjack, another word for a marching french horn IS a mellophone. but, you arent doing too bad! you just need to pull in your cheeks a little tighter and bring your lips in. it cuts down on the buzzing so your chops dont wear down as fast and you wont blat as much. just practice a little more with more air support and youll get the hang of it. i switched from flute to mello so i know how it is! good luck
lol yea, schools use trumpet mouthpieces, but they're allways out of tune and you can't hit the partials easily. Mello mouthpieces solve that, and like taco said, Drum Corps use them.
If you use an Fhorn mouthpiece u need an adaptor, and its not as loud as a mello mouthpiece.
iWasnt allowed to use a trumpet mouthpiece because my director told me iWould lose my ombeture. Now i see why my section leader played in jazz band with trumpet and we both play french horn iWuz second chair but everytime we had a concert iHad to cover for him because he lost his ombeture
not really...A mellophone mouthpiece is extremely close to a trumpet mouthpiece... Its a little deeper and has a shorter shank (part that goes into neck). You should avoid trumpet mouthpieces on mello's cause it will be out of tune, and usually crack more.
its a mellophone just with an extention on the bottom that gives it the lower french horn sound and with a possible attatchment to use a french horn mouth piece instead of a trumpet
there are also marching horns that look more or less like mellos and play in Bb. I can't tell by this video which it is, but I suspect it may be a Bb marching horn.
air support from the diaphragm is key. sounds decent for just making the switch. stick with it. I switched over the summer some years ago so I'm proof that it can be done.
This is just... bad..

Its a Marching horn. A mellophone wouldnt use a french horn mouthpeice. puting the adapter on makes it a marching franch horn.

THEmelloMAN1229 1 year ago
naw it looks like a f horn mouthpiece. certain mellophones have either an adapter or some are made so the horn mouthpiece would fit a mellophone
masterkeys48 1 year ago
Try using a mellophone mouthpiece instead of that one. It looks like a trumpet one.
debs12 2 years ago
