im a girl and im in the process of joining the navy!!! i dont really know anything about submarine life but i dont understand why any girl would want to be part of it. I think its okay if certain areas of the military are strictly for men. if its been working out that way for so long, why risk creating problems by changing it? i hope these women know what they are getting themselves into, because i dont understand why they would want to be in subs.
Female submariners would have no problem in US Submarines. US Navy's SSN and SSBN are spacious and comfortable compare to other types. Germans put female sailor in their 206 and 212 SSK) Although ther submarines do not travel around the world, only around Baltic.
@bambang303378 have you ever been on a ssbn? I have and my father served 5 years on one. There is NO PRIVACY AT ALL on a submarine and personal space is non existant. Nobody but the CO gets any room to sleep, my dad was an officer as well and he couldnt even sleep on his side. Putting women on a submarine is a mistake. Also, the drills submariners have to do incase of a hullbreach women could not physically handle it. There is no a woman could apply the force to contain a leak.
LOL "no challenges in integrating the women on board" and "it will enhance warfighting capabilites." What a wonderful picture to paint. Just wait, until they are out in the middle of an important deployment and they realize that 10% of their crew is pregnant. This is why the navy is the laughing stock of the US armed forces. Ever see the kind of shenanigans that go onboard their ships?
Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! It is a mistake to let woman serve in combat and especially in the confined space of a Naval ship. I have a friend who was on a carrier when women first came on board. He got to see the before and after and he said women on the boat fucked everything up. This shit is so obvious. Our military has turned into a bunch of politically correct bureaucratic pansies that carry stress cards to get out tough training . We will never win another war until we purge all this bullshit.
@NWBackcountry women shouldnt serve on subs b/c of lack of personal space and privacy but ships tend to be a little better. Women serve important roles in the military although they should never be put in any direct combat situations
@TheRidersChoice So, you're basically saying that no woman ever can live with the lack of personal space and privacy. Yeah, ok, strawman argument is sexist and dumb.
@TheRidersChoice If women/jews/blacks/(insert whatever here) aren't allowed direct combat situations (you know jews weren't allowed soldiering in the Middle Ages?), they will not have any credibility as commanders. But maybe you're afraid of women in situations of authority?
@LordLightknight nope, i fully support women becoming officers. Certain aspects of the military should be reserved for men. Ive already explained why they shouldnt be allowed to serve on subs. Infantry roles and subs should be the two roles they are exempt from. I dont want hear any equality shit either until women are forced to register for a draft
@LordLightknight If women were expected to meet the same standards as their male counterparts it wouldn't be a problem. They aren't though. They are also given easy outs.
Women on surface ships HAS, I repeat, HAS resulted in ships failing to deploy because enough of the females on board conveniently decided to get pregnant right before a deployment (that they knew was coming years in advance). This will be a bigger problem on boats because they have shorter than ships watchbills to start.
As a woman I want to see all ladies succeed in everything they do; however this is an entirely different matter. For our safety, if nothing else, I don't think we should be in close proximity to men for long periods of time. Submarines are very "male" environments, but I fully support all female subs - absolutely! Just because it's PC, doesn't mean it's a good idea. In the military women and men should be separated wherever possible - that's how we function best imo.
I spent 9 miserable months on a Naval Vessel (LPH2 Iwo Jima) from 90 to 91 they food was terrible, the smell was disgusting and the carrying out of dying sailors was traumatizing.
I was a submariner for 10 years, and I personally can't see any problem with fifty women with synchronised PMS holding the trigger for the trident weapon system. I am however going to go and expand my basement and stock it with food and water for no particular reason.
@industrialfun funny how al sub vets agree that women could not serve on subs lol. I think more importantly women could not handle the lack of privacy or personal space
@LordLightknight Yeah, nice comparison. It's not like the 100 or so active astronauts aren't subjected to a far more intensive selection process than the several thousand submarine volunteers.....
I was in the NAVY for 7 years on Boomers which is what these ladies are going on . I do not think it is a very good idea to stay out to sea for more than a couple of weeks at the most and never stay out on a bommer which stays out for 3 months .
so how is it that there going to be no major changes ? um head and showers that has to change for one.i served on board the USS Tennessee SSBN734(b) for 3 yrs and it was tough just being a non-qual how do u think it going be for them? i not sure if i only one but i think subs should stay all men because if you put women on board with men that just asking for trouble i believe.
They're going to be on boomers on SSGNs, not real submariners anyways.
I've known many submariners that were truly non-quals in the real sense of the word as well. These women deserve respect. They'll be more qualified than many folks I served with, I'm sure.
He is correct. You are NOT a "Submariner" until such time that you have completed Qualifications. This video is mis-titled. Best of luck to the ladies, it's is an unbeaten path, no less tough though because they are women.
Please change the name of this video, they aren't Submariners yet. If you can put "nubs" or "non-qual" in there, would be great. And you won't insult any of us Submariners. Thanks again.
someone is going to come up preggy! and they already have, so there told ya so.
