to be fair police officers are allowed to ask for identification, for an international visitor this is your passport, this form of universal identification is actually the sole reason we have passports and by ignoring their requests to see his passport he is breaking international law. If you notice at the end when they take him down he still has his passport, and as such still has not complied to the requests of the officers...whether you agree with him or not, police were within their rights

@dBolotok Well I know that here in Australia any police officer can ask for identification from somebody at any time as long as they have a REASON to and that is the same for many other countries, the young man was POTENTIALLY a future instigator OR victim of violence and as such the police had reasonable grounds to ask, I'm not saying he would cause trouble but he MIGHT. to be fair police officers are allowed to ask for identification, for an international visitor this is your passport, this form of universal identification is actually the sole reason we have passports and by ignoring their requests to see his passport he is breaking international law. If you notice at the end when they take him down he still has his passport, and as such still has not complied to the requests of the officers...whether you agree with him or not, police were within their rights

@dBolotok Well I know that here in Australia any police officer can ask for identification from somebody at any time as long as they have a REASON to and that is the same for many other countries, the young man was POTENTIALLY a future instigator OR victim of violence and as such the police had reasonable grounds to ask, I'm not saying he would cause trouble but he MIGHT. That being said I am not saying I agree/disagree with him, I'm just saying that I think the police we're within their rights

I am saying that when you counter protest at a rally like the guy did, you put yourself in immediate danger especially when you are outnumbered like he was....the police saw him as someone who would be a POTENTIAL cause or victim of violence. Any police force in any country would rather arrest one man instead of containing a riot/fight or explaining to the media why they were not there to protect the man after he was beaten up. A large role of the police is to PROTECT, this means preventative measures are not only necessary but actually the desired method of dealing with crime. 1 arrest is better than 1000+

This is not Israeli police brutality, as they are well within their rights (reminder loitering is a crime), and this method of crowd control at protests/rallies is sometimes necessary to stop rioting and violence. FYI in many countries there are regulations about protesting, in many countries you need a permit
