02:40 Einstein didn't come up with anything new he just produced the work of earlier men. Einsteins 'Special Relativity' has been proven incorrect by recent experiments at Cern and the false gravity calculations in astro physics as a result of following his flawed theory has cost humanity decades of progress. But why was Einstein such a big hit with academia and the media? Maxwell was Scottish and Newton was English. Einstein was a Jew and we know who control the media and academia.
@guydecervens There's a lot of doubt over the OPERA results, since the particles the neutrinos came from didn't even have the energy to reach light speed in the first place. Also I was under the impression that Murdoch and Disney were to blame for most of the media control not the Jews, everyone knows what Disney thought of the Jews, yet Disney is the biggest media conglomerate on the planet.
I think its amazing how back in Einstein's days, people do appreciate physics and despite how absurd Einstein's idea may be to the laymen, he became a celebrity for his pure genius in physics. Unfortunately, these days society isn't paying enough attention to scientific progress. People like Witten deserved more recognition but alas, most people finds Jersey Shore more exciting than string theory and parallel universes.
How come string theory always starts with the history of physics, and is like this must be the obvious next step :S There is no proof of it, extra dimensions dont exist, its just a bunch of fancy mathamatics...
@telephas1c listen here mack, playing with strings is for the cats. every thing you need to know bout nothing here is in the BIBLE, the good book is all you need to lern lifes lessons by the LORD
@hahaokayman It's like the roulette game. imagine the sun in the middle of the roulette and the ball being the earth. The sun being so heavy it warped the space/time, like the roulette platform is.
@sbergman27. The computer analogy is off the mark. Computers execute a known program. We don't expect a computer to tell us which program to run. In contrast, we do expect a physical theory to tell us which program of the universe to run. String theory fails miserably on that score. Perhaps I should have said useless rather than ugly, in which case Feynman is probably the more relevant critic.
@MisterSimnock Only until the proper Calabi–Yau manifold for our Universe is determined. You need to consider the theory, itself, separately from the parameters. There is room in String Theory to describe at least 10^500 different kinds of Universe. You might as well say that computers are ugly because they can run so many different programs. That said, finding the proper shape for the additional 7 spatial dimensions is nontrivial, but critically important. I'll not presume to speak for Dirac.
I didn't realize that the absoluteness of the speed of light in a vacuum was reflected in Maxwell's equations from 1862. I'm wondering if it simply wasn't noticed, or if it was one of those times that theory seemed to predict something so outré that it was assumed to be a mathematical artifact, with no application to the real world.
@MrXcaliber100 Indeed, it would have been entirely appropriate for him to have shown up at the University of Southern California in May of 1995 wearing tights with a 'W' on the chest.

He really is, as some say, Einsteins successor.

@webdsl
He is, but unfortunately his genius is not as great as Einstein and that is why progress is so slow.

Woh! Stop right there, Ed! String theory has something like 10 to the 500 solutions. That is one ugly theory. Dirac would be appauled.

@ sbergman27 Yes, it can actually be mathematically shown that Maxwell's equations require that the speed of light be a constant.
