I read a book about this shootout. Chelsea players were told to shot to the left of Van Der Sar since he has more trouble on that side. Anelka, who didn't, missed the penalty. You can also see VDS signal to that side as to saying,"You are all shooting to that side, aren't you?" right before Anelka kicks.And, Cech was told that 6 out every 10 times that Ronaldo stops during his run, he will shoot to the right side of the keeper, before kicking to the left or to the middle.
