Ah the night is so deep But I cannot asleep Cannot asleep because of very strange dream. My horse beloved my raven Started to play, restless became nickering under me Oh the winds became to me Those ones from eastern side Taking off my black cap From my vivacious head. Visiting un visionary He told me his prophecy Knowing so much about my dream He told : your head is going to waste Your head so hot tempered Your head so vivacious and wild Will pass away soon my dear
hello! I m trying to find when this song was written.in russian wikipidia i found this : Песня появилась в XVII веке[источник не указан 604 дня]. Самый первый письменный вариант песни можно увидеть у Александры и Владимира Железновых[1] в книге «Песни уральских казаков» СПб., 1899, стр. 12-14, № 6 под названием «Разин видит сон». Ее записали в 1880-х гг. от «75-летнего старика-казака Ф. С. Ж.».
could someone translate me and tell me if 1899 is the chronology i need?
@stagonastagonata Translation: Song appeared in XVII century. (detailed date not known, 604-th day(?)) First written version of this song was recorded by Aleksanra and Vladimir Zheleznov in a book " Songs of Ural Cossacks" printed in 1899 page 12 to 16 number 6 under title " The dream of Razin". Song was recorded in 1880 from 75 years old Cossack.
classic Zhanna. takes me back to my year in Voronezh (84-85) she gave a concert but i was ill in hospital but she signed her 2 Melodiya albums for me which i still treasure dearly
The speaker of the lines is Stenka (Stepan) Razin, a Volga warlord in the 1400s, and rebel from the tsar. He fiinally was defeated, captured, and executed.
@paratatruc Is there a command here? No. There is not:
"А есаул наш догадлив был, Он сумел сон мой разгадать - Ой, пропадёт - он говорил," The есаул is not commanding, but acting as a seer. (If Caesar says "My captain told me..." it does not mean that Caesar is subordinate to his captain!)
I'm reviving the old debate...Look at this comment
"date not known, 604-th day(?)) First written version of this song was recorded by Aleksanra and Vladimir Zheleznov in a book " Songs of Ural Cossacks" printed in 1899 page 12 to 16 number 6 under title " The dream of Razin". Song was recorded in 1880 from 75 years old Cossack"
You see, it is an Ural cossack song, and not a Don cossack song.It cannot be connected to Stenka Razin
It's about a Cossack soldier who has a prophetic dream of his own demise in battle. roughly (repeated lyrics removed): It wasn't yet evening, I had slept very little. But in my sleep I saw this vision: My raven-black stallion, Began to frolic and dance beneath my saddle. In flew the evil winds, From the East, And tore the black hat, Off my mighty head. But the Esaul (Cossack lieutenant) was quick witted, He could interpret my dream, "That mighty head of yours," he said "will soon perish"
"Donskaya Ballada" is a different song that Zhanna also sang... tells the story of a bride who suffered a tragic accident on her wedding day. No matter, both lovely songs and a lovely singer, viva Zhanna!
So maybe some of you would like to listen to KRISTINA VIKHROVA´s performance, with a choir, posted here by "Cugopob", as I found right some 5 minutes ago, under the title "OY, TO NE VECHER" (neither for Greeks nor for Troyans, then, lol).
KAZACHYA PRITCHA (Cossak Ballad) can be, but "Danskaya balada"?????
All of us however some day will "go to the clouds" (leave the Earth), with a hat or not, lol. So why argue or disagree due to one different word or two? If you saw how Google translated these lyrics, OMG!!!
For me too, STENKA RAZIN is other song, but I can accept the information; I´m not Russian! Now, I adore Zhana´s performances and I know this song since many years ago by HER voice and guitar! It´s lovely.
this song has another name called " the dream of Stenka Razin" the actual mane of the character is Stepan Razin who was a peasant rebel. The song tells about his dream when he sees himself riding his horse who suddenly started jumping and horsing around, and then the east side winds started storming in and got his black hat from his rebellious head. 1 of his officers was clever to untangle his dream and he predicted that Stepan will lose his life. and actually was captured, and executed in 1671
The song is about a Cossac who in his sleep was riding his horse. Then the wind took of a black hat from his head. When he woke up he asked another Cossac what his dream meant. It meant that he was going to die.
I don't know Russian, but as I understand (I'm Slav at least!) it's a Cossacks tale about how he felt asleep and he dreamd about his horse and strange, fearsome winds taking his cap off.
When he woke up he realized that his commander took off his cap and said something like "oh, your head will gone in the clouds someday"
@sigizmund I guess that's what he interpreted the dream to mean.. ie an evil wind from the East tearing off your hat = an enemy lobbing your head off, I suppose.
This Cossack had a dream one night that he was riding his black horse when a bad wind from the east rose up and tore his cap from his "hot head"...the next day his tribal chieftan (his "Essaul") interpreted his dream for him: "You are sure to lose that hot head of yours."
Не понял ты нихрена, словак. When I woke up I went to my commander and told him my strange dream. The commander was astute, he said "You'll lose your head soon".
@matinaki83 This song is abou death, which is coming to a man. He is feeling its steps in his dream: he sees his horse was very uncalm and winds around... All these are signs of death - explained his friend to him. - "So you'll not be alive soon"

Опубликована в 1899-ом, но, похоже, Бичевская очень сильно ее переделала, и текст, и музыку.

@c150gpilot
Hi,
as you said: "my capitain...".Stenka razin had no capitain.Simple soldiers "have" officers.Certainly not the commander of the rebelion.
"my" is used only for those who are above you in the hierarchy.
You can trust me, I was an infantry man for three years.See my point?

By the way, I asked one of my friend
I think he told me Da ne vecher is not a russian sentence.
Ukrainian maybe?"

@paratatruc Luckily he did not say "My horse" - who knows what you would think:) so c150gpilot is right in his interpretation.
