For a start he can barely kickflip.

Secondly, doing the whole "flip the deck then step on" is just building bad habits. When you kickflip you need to catch it with your back foot not your front.

The only real way to learn how to kickflip is to practice and try different ways until you start getting it.

@SUICIDEARSENAL i had that EXACT problem, but now i land them everytime. So trust me when i say keep your front foot out, and bring it back only when you want to land, and dont be scared of landing in primo or anything, just commit to it. Maybe try practising the fornt foot landing only, like, do the kickflip, but keep your back foot out of it, and land it with your front foot only, then when you're comfortable with that, try with both feet
