That thing is called the Autronic Eye. Better known for a Magic Eye. It's a device which automatically dims the headlights when it detects oncoming traffic, and it returns to high beam after the traffic has passed. It works by a lightsensor, hense the eye. A beautiful system by GM since 1952!
Yes, the Sedan has somewhat like 6 inches more interior space. I did like the four door hardtop configuration, but the sedan actually has shorter fins than the coupe.
But she's gone now. Bought a salmon '56 Caddy Coupe instead.

It looked as if it was filmed in 1959 after seeing those cars on the highway. Though, it would have been through a 16mm video camera and no sound.
