  • i am dying on the floor with laughter...i recently watched plan 9 and tor was epic in it.

  • Groucho wasnt treating Tor any different than his other guests. Guest on a show with Groucho, one should expect a ribbing.

  • Tor what a great sport!

  • Wow! I heard that Tor had a heavy Swedish accent.....but honestly, I didn't really hear much of an accent here.....was he in a America for so long that he lost his accent?

  • @71crm

I know right? Some people say he couldn't act either. I for one have seen performances that prove the opposite. ^^

  • @anton1990 Yeah, Tor also seemed like a pretty patient guy too, he looks like he almost lost it with that bit about being from Japan but he kept his cool!

  • I love Groucho especially from his The Marx Brothers days, but I bet Tor would have been mad enough at 2:10 to have punched /kicked a hole in Groucho's podium then and there and stomped off the set with that nonstop Sweden/Japan routine,

and I really can't say I would have blamed him. Thanks for this historic clip though.

  • @cha5 Yeah Seriously! If I was Tor Groucho started making comments about me I would torn him to pieces!!!!

  • Oooo she's Spartan .. Hot diggity

  • What year was this episode first aired?

  • Tor was 6'3". At that height, he looks like he weighed quite a bit more than 387.

  • @lazur1 Actually I read that at his peak he was 400 lbs!

  • Surreal, to see these two together.

  • Fuck Groucho!

  • His weight is now normal for many Americans smaller than him, that's how much times have changed.

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting. If only Ed Wood had been there.

  • Inspector Clay was a memorable role in Plan 9 Outer Space for the robust Tor....

  • If it was me...then I would have killed the host.

  • She's beautiful... Tor;s not bad either.

  • Rick from Pawn Stars would be good in The Tor Johnson Story you think?

  • Is Groucho Marx asking the questions? Whats the name of this show?

  • @Drassdouche OK its you bet your life, I'm stupid.

    Whose the sexy Greek bitch?

  • @Drassdouche "You Bet Your Life."

  • This the best clip on YouTube.

    Thanks.

  • Ha! Only Groucho would compare Tor with Jane Mansfield.

You're right. There's not enough Tor on this site. Thanks for uploading this. I never knew he was on this show.

  • is this out on any dvd?

  • @beeteep60 Unfortunately no this episode is not. There is a couple of sets out there but sadly this entire series which used to air daily around the US until the early 1990's is now locked in a vault :(

  • We need more game show hosts like Groucho. Everything today is like milque toast, except for Regis and Alex Trebek.

  • Time for go to game show!

  • thanks for this classic

  • Yes, more Tor!

  • Tor is like a big kid. You just cannot dislike Tor, such a wonderful man, and a true B-movie icon.

  • I am Tor Johnson...

What did you do to Johnson did he made you mad?

  • The exchange between Tor and Groucho is OBVIOUSLY scripted.

Tor was not the big, brain dead zombie he portrayed in movies.

Tor wasn't a great actor but he could do ANGER very well.

    That's first year pro-wrestler stuff.

  • But he could have been a good "monster" actor given half a chance and a good director

  • Comment removed

  • Tor looked like he was THIS close from saying "Time for go to bed!" and smashing Groucho

  • Watch WC Fields movie an On The Flying Trapeze" and you get to see Tor Johnson in 1934 in the wrestling scene. He plays Tossoff, the Russian Giant.

  • Time for go to bed

  • I think a lot of the You Bet Your Lifes were scripted... like the exchange between Tor and Groucho. I find it hard to believe that was just an impromptu conversation.

  • There are conflicting reports about how much of the show was written and how much was improvised. Most likely it was variable.

Supposedly, there were writers to write lines for the guests so Groucho wouldn't have to hold up the whole show himself every day.

  • OK Inspector, what are you going to do?

    - Mockeyaladalila!!!

(that scene cracks me up everytime!!!)

  • tor is really cool. groucho was very uncool...and very unfunny. if tor had of slapped marx...now that would have been hilarious!

  • I was kind of embarrassed for Groucho here.

  • groucho had it comin'!!!

  • Tor is every horror fans teddy bear. Such a wonderful guy.

  • that's awesome Tor Johnson

ever see The Beast of Yuka Flats?

  • I thought Tor was going to hit Groucho.

  • i wish he had of! LOL.

  • cool guy

  • "I hahma big boy Johnny".

    I want a Tor mask.

  • Well- you learn something new every day. Except today.

  • LOBO! I command you! :-D

  • Groucho Marx doesn't belong on the same stage as Tor Johnson! Tor Johnson is GOD! Any obscure Tor footage is worth it's weight in gold. This very well could be the most valuable celluloid in the history of film! Dude, you could sell this on ebay or christies auction house and probably get MILLIONS for this!

  • Tor is so confused by Groucho's Japan questions. That is funny.

That Greek chick is hot. She's probably go out with me . . . today, not back then when she was hot, but, you know, now as an old woman she might go out with me.

  • Poor Tor, Groucho ripped the shit out of him, but I can't help but laugh

  • Groucho is lucky Tor didn't return the favor!

  • But Tor "tore" Johnson.

  • Tor :D He always makes me happy. Who can forget his sad eyes in "Bride of the monster" when Belas experiment goes wrong.

  • "I don't understand what that means, but it sounds imposing."

  • Tor is big for a japanese guy.

  • If I were Groucho, when Tor says he's about 387 lbs. "soakin' wet" (not an expression one would expect from a giant Swedish wrestler), I'd have said "If you don't mind, I'LL do the jokes!" Of course, had I said that, he'd have probably torn me limb from limb like he was thinking of doing to Groucho @ 1:57! "YOU said Stockholm was in Yapan!"

  • "If you don't mind, I'LL do the jokes!"

Groucho wouldn't use a cliche like that.

  • I know that; I'm sure he wouldn't; I was simply relating to his comedic side; Tor was being funnier than Groucho, and to that, Groucho would *jokingly, of course* take offense and say something LIKE that; besides, I said "If *I* were Groucho"; I'd be mad as hell if somebody were stealing my spotlight on live national TV (even if I am camera-shy in real life)

  • I always wanted to see this- Thank for posting it.

  • is that Groucho?

  • So THAT"S the BIG JOHNSON...

  • Thanks for posting this. I was just watching Sam Raimi and Scott Spiegel do this routine over on ThisIsMyBoomStick's channel (from "The Plan 9 Companion") -- cool to get to see the original.

    Time for go to bed!

  • That's were I first heard it & what a sweet Greek girl too!

  • Time for go to happy hour!

  • Tor was a very decent fellow. R.I.P. Dear friend. He's wrestling angels now...

  • MST3K+Groucho=<3

  • It was all I could do not to just keep saying "Tor, close your mouth, you'll drown!"

  • I've loved Tor since i was a kid, what a wonderful man.

  • Rest in peace my giant friend

  • I think she means Je ne sais quoi

  • Good stuff. Tor Johnson was a giant before steroids appeared. Thank you very much and keep them coming.
