Regan really took the fight out of unions a long time ago, when he broke the Airline Strike. Manufacturing unions fell away and next thing you know, most every other union in America seem to die too. Now it's only a few that keep up the fight. I can't say I've always been a union person, some unions aren't worth having but in lite of what we see today, we sure need more.

Thanks for reminding me of an old favorite documentary of mine. More recently I saw Razing Appalachia (2003) on Independant Lens. It shows at least some of the old spirit of resistance in a community fighting a mining company. But I hear you, it is sad how little fight is left in the American people.

There has been a steady drift to the right since then. The republicans have seemingly convinced many americans that the very word Union is *un-amurican*. Witness the total lack of success in unionizing the service industry. Sad. I will check out the documentary.

in chicago, parking meters are now $5 an hour ($40 minimum for the "opportunity" to work an 8 hour day)

they do a credit check when you apply for a job, nowadays. "well, it says here that you're broke...so we can't hire ya"

Hey bro', I remember when that was happening when I was a kid. My Grandparents had family down there that were involved in the strikes. You said it best.........they were super poor..........but they were a really tight knit community & they all gave whatever they had to each other to stay alive. We don't have that anymore I believe as sad as it is to say. I see you're letting your hair grow out. I'm getting a haircut on Mon. let's go get a 2 fer one special...LOL!

weak is a good word to start with,and we have a real slavery issue now,,slowly but surly we will all be slaves,and its going to take alot more than striking to stop it.its like putting a frog in a pot of water and turning up the heat,,the frog dosen't notice till the waters about to boil,,and then its to late.We should all start with not going to work,just stay home for weeks on end,and rip down every survallence camara you see,throw all your cell phones in the garbage,and throw away the tv.

@Z200a Yeah,those are all good vloggers. We used to have many good voices on here and at one time had a group of about 30 of us that made vids fairly regular. Then some got into the "democrats and republicans are the same/anarchy type kick" and we sort of fell apart at the seams. Names like Coffeedude,Gemm73,Witzkeyman,L­eafdude and many others used to post a lot of great vids. Those are gone for the most part or,like myself,only post now and again. I had over 400 vids at one point. Take care bro

@Methadone4Life Oh yeah, leafdude is awesome. I wish he would post more, too. Never heard of Gemm73, but I did used to listen to Coffeedude, too, back in the day.

I know what you mean about the whole "democrats are the same as Republicans" crap. Even though there is SOME truth to it, they go way too far with it: the Democrats are more corporate friendly than I would like, but they are still miles ahead of the Republicans.

BTW: Balloon Juice is a good blog by John Cole - fellow WV person.

@Z200a I'm a progressive that does videos now and again. I use to do a lot more but I had to work full time for a while. Now I'm layed off again and more than likely wont be returning to work but go straight on to SS early. I'd like to think I'll do more anyway.

It's really sad how working people have lost their labor consciousness these days. I'm from Detroit, lifelong UAW connections. The UAW is going to try to organize some of the auto plants in the South but I am sure they will be defeated.
