  • If you prefer you guys can call it '' cream cheese ''

    but it is istanbul since 1453 . . .

  • why would any1 write a song that states that its instanbul when its constantinople... oh well...

(and yes, whether you like it or not, its Constantinople..)

  • Comment removed

  • If that will make you happy you can call it Constantinople or something else. But it is the city where we live, where we have houses not you. :))

  • sounds like everyone had a good time... especially the crowd. did someone pass around free drinks? :) this is the most 'alive' crowd I've ever seen of live videos!

    they r awasome!!

  • Yeah, how dare they have fun at a live show. They should sit quietly and watch while John & John try to gauge how much they're enjoying it by how un-bored they might look.

That being said, I'm assuming you've never been to one of their shows.

  • or any live show ever performed

  • @bastianbux Hahaha Straight up dude!

  • Check out Craig Ferguson's version of it - hysterical!

  • this song is on the old school ddr!!! haha

  • Is the album version here anywhere?

  • --- ISTANBUL --- Since 1453.....

  • It was Constantinopolis till 1953

Constantiniye till 19th century till the greek rebellion

    After 19th it became Istanbul

Istanbul is from Greek word Stin Polis whic is even used West Rome(Byzantine) time.

So it is unmeaningfull to be annoyed when it is called Constantinopolis.

  • it's not a greek city so why do u care XD

  • why u giving me an attitude, it was Greek be4 okay, maybe because thats where my ancestors r from

  • You know what i dont care whose blood is in my veins.I have greek armenian bosnian russian and turkish bloods So What? In this part of world which Ottoman Empire ruled nobody is pure..

  • You're lier than hell.

That's nobody's business but the Turks So, take me back to Constantinople No, you can't go back to Constantinople Been a long time gone, Constantinople Why did Constantinople get the works? That's nobody's business but the Turks Istanbul!
  • ha...I love this song...

but I think before Constatinople it was Byzantine (maybe Alexadria?)...and the this guy Constatine said 'hey I'm gonna rename this place Constatinople'...

    ...yeah...history class is fun...

  • It was Byzantium (capital of the Byzantine Empire, aka Eastern Roman Empire until they became Greek Orthodox.) then Constantinople, but yes, Constantine had the name changed when he took over.

  • yeah...I know, I almost busted out laughing that any guy could be so vain to name a city after himself like that (But I still love Alexander naming every freakin city Alexandria)

  • Sheesh they look sick of performing that song.

  • Its uppity, catchy, and educational lol. I love it!

Love how every peoples hate some other peoples because of historical conflicts and differences or current struggles involving bullheaded governments = / Russians and Poles, Greeks and Turks, Chinese and Japanese, Serbs and Albanians, Swedes and Danes, Muslims and Jews, so on and so forth = / 'tis why the world will end in flames =/

  • You mean Christians and Jews? Who killed Jesus, you know... LOL

  • great video and song...

i'm turkish and i love greek people but anyway it's been Istanbul since 1453 ;)

  • Very informative! I never knew that. Thank you!

  • yeeah no, thats like claiming that you really own cyprus, (which you really dont ;D) anyway, istanbul was originally called islambul meaning to find islam, but since it was akward to say, the name just kinda migrated into istanbul. its not greek. and btw is tin polin sounds nothing like istanbul.

  • lol Perhaps you do not realise the similarity because you do not know how to pronounce the words "is tin polin". But even if you google it you will see somewhere that that 's the truth. On the contrary never anyone claimed that the name has anything to do with islam.

  • @nomust

I'm sorry, but Orthodoxy is as pointless as Islam or Christianity next door.

  • @nomust what a messed up way of writing!!

because of you guys, people in the world can not get along!!

what a sad-sick-dishonest person you are!

  • @nomust what a messed up way of writing!!

because of you guys, people in the world can not get along!!

    very sad-sick & dishonest !

  • Nice song.

    The lyrics are logical.

  • Thanks for sharing, Spock.

  • Wow, I tohught They Might be Giants was a 1950's group cos their stlye is old... they are still going, LOL!

  • great video. thanks for sharing it.

  • istanbul 1453....

  • istanbul is not a GAYREEK city.

  • What the heck is going on with this Greek thing? You people make no sense.

  • u don't know what's happening since 1453 ??

  • But why does it matter when commenting on a They Might Be Giants song? o .o

  • yes but you see...greeks and turks inherently hate each other and will fight over almost anything.

  • Do not be so sure. Many Turks have Greek blood running in their veins from their ancestors who were iclamicised forcefully.

  • There is no Greek blood or Turkish blood.Blood is blood.

  • many greeks having turkish blood but were at some point christianised.peripou 60%apo tous elines ine tourkoi ,hristianoi.epistiminika apodedigmeno.

  • when Turks occupied Minor Asia they were 150.000. In Minor Asia were 20.000.000 Greeks. It was iclamicized Greeks that conquered Constantinople. Rmemeber also the janissaries. Millions of Turks have Greek blood in their veins even today.

  • Well I fuckin don't understand how the fuck a fuckin greek can be fuckin jeolius like this. YOU WERE OUR SLAVES. WE FUCKED YOUR FUCKIN WIFES AND FUCKIN GIRLS SO HOW THE FUCK WE CAN HAVE YOUR FUCKIN BLOOD? FUCK YOU.

  • Calm down. Millions of Turks are descendants of islamicised Greeks. The Greeks who remained Christians are Greeks. But many Greeks became Muslims from 11th century onwards and therefore many Turks have Greek blood in their veins. Even those who conquered Constantinople were in a great percentage Greeks.

  • It's an explain of a pathethic looser. Don't ment offensive but it is.

In Greece you were teach your own language to your own people When Turkiye roums return to the Greece. Cos they were forget their mother language. I have pics about that. You know your girls and wifes were sold in slave bazaars to TURKS. And this is why you still want revenge ... Turkish blood still in your veins and i think you should proud with this...

  • What has language to do with blood? On the contrary, your arguments support what I wrote to you earler. Millions of Greeks under the Ottoman rule adopted the religion of Islam, and eventually they became Turks. Those who were sold slaves became Turks and their descendants are in Turkey. Remember the Greek Pargalı İbrahim Pasha who was Grand Vizier of Suleiman the Magnificent.

  • So what?? don't you know your own PM's Surname?

Κωνσταντίνος Αλεξάνδρου Καραμανλής - KARAMANLIS (From Karaman) the city in Turkiye)

Ρίτα Αμπατζή - ABATZI (ABACI (Who selling haircloth in Turkish =)

Nikos Portokaloglou (Nikos Son of orange)

Anyways you understood what i said.

  • The names are pretty irrelevant because both Greeks and Turks were speaking both languages so that they could understand each other. And they were many dialects in the Empire. But Karamans are a characteristic exampleof what I am saying to you. Some were Greek Orthodox who had just adopted the Turkish language. Therefore they were Greeks!

Have you heard of Zağanos Pasha? He was the chief commander in the conquest of Constantinople. He persuaded Mehmet to continue the siege! He was Greek!

  • I talked about language because as you wrote the surnames are nicknames (e.g. son of orange) and those nicknames were made in the everyday dialect. It is not about blood.

  • It is what it's mean in Turkiye not a swear. Anyways. Just keep walkin in that way. I was tired to have a row with Greeks. They'll never accept the truth but 1-2 greek...

  • I did not say that it is a swear.

  • To give you an example, it is like saying that the Africans of Africa have American blood in their veins because they were being sold slaves to the Americans. On the contrary, many Americans have African blood in their veins because they got assimilated in the American community and they became Americans. You can see it even in the current president of America!

  • Yani hakkaten ne alaka ! Gayet guzel yorumlar varken burayi niye politikaya ceviriyorsun...
