German engines may have had finer tolerences, but they were downon power compared to allied engines. They had no reliable engines over 1900 hp were the US and Britain had lots. Also allied engines were serviced in the front line. German engines had to be crated and sent back to the factories for servicing.
@GrigoriZhukov lol im 28 buddy. Russians and U.S. fighters have zero altitude ejection seats so there about the same. Russian fighters have always had big engines, but they cant mess with the raptor or even the f-15.
@GRATZIANI2002 Actually, they have the best parachutes. The seats perform no better than anyone else's, it's the 'chutes that make all the difference.
Several companies had been working on the ejection seat idea, Germany was simply the first country to have one in a combat aircraft.
Its pretty common to believe that somehow Nazi Germany was some sort of tech wonder, when in reality they were simply the only country to spread their R&D all over the place during the war, while all the other countries purposely reigned theirs in to concentrate on what was already proven and necessary.
@OPE08 ... Cant entirely agree. The Germans werent just way ahead in their thinking...There was also the quality of their engineering. Aircraft engines were built to finer tolerances than the British or American ones. And it doesnt stop there. Tailess designs for eg. The idea was not new but when it came to the practical application the Komet was a far sweeter handling aircraft than the British DH 108 which came out several years later. They spent far less on R&D than the Allies
@gilliguts - they spent less in dollars, but the percentage of effort expended on "special" projects throughout the war was far greater. The US/UK both adopted a "go with what works" strategy, where the Nazi regime scattered resources on just about anything and everything the whole time. "Building engines to finer tolerances" actually hurt them in many cases, as it made routine maintenence far more difficult. As in the Panzer VI ( and up) which could not be field repaired.
Ejection seats are made in England and sold to pretty much anyone.

Why are there always arguments on bomberguys vids? Someone please tell me.

He's probably glad to get out of that plane since the P-61 has a habit of bursting into flames for no apparent reason.

Brave guy. I would be scared as fuck in the 3 or so seconds flying in the air, stripped to your seat and still without a parachute....

I think Black Widow is a pretty brave guy. eh ejects 40 feet and doesn't afraid of anything.

Notice that the test-ee is a Corporal and not a Captain. I appears that the enlisted schmo's are more expendable than the commissioned schmo's.

@BeLikeWater1000 Actually, Russian planes love ingesting fowl. And the Russian airshow pilots tend to cut their margins too close.

P-61s did a lot after the war. They did a lot of the early weather mapping stuff, using their radar. Meteorology owes a lot to this plane!

The P-61 was an awesome night fighter and anti ship/ground attack weapon.
Incredible technology. Im not sure if it saw service against the Germans.
LordButtercracks 3 years ago
The P-61 did indeed see service in Europe. Check out the book, "P-61 Black Widow Units of World War 2"

Your name is that of the pre-SR-71 fighter...you must have good knowledge about planes! Greetings from an argentinian aeroplane addict!
ocsdct 3 years ago
The SR-71 never carried armament and therefore could hardly be refered to as a fighter it was strictly reconaisance

That's right, all it had of a fighter was the "F"...
