  • I see that a good understanding of the charactics of each instrument is essential to orchestrating musical works.

  • pointless...

  • Very effective score! What scoring program did you use, and what provided the instrument sounds and dynamics controls?

  • @7NTM61Ic I used Finale 2010 to score and control the digital samples from Kontakt 3.

  • the music is hollow !

  • Congrats for the work! I'm thinking about taking this course online.

    Keep on scoring! Cheers!

  • @luizcadu

The course is great. I hope you take the class. I'm about to take Orchestra II.

Zane, this piece above ,sounds o.k. but "empty"(and I understand you're a student, so..). Please, take this advice, (unless you've already heard this) , get your STRING writing going. You're NOT using the full potential of the String orchestra, the effects and dynamics the( the strings) can do. Your writing here is too vertical, "staccato" and clunky. Some instruments have to play "legato"/sustained notes to establish the harmony.. Think, think...soldier..:-) All the best.. Phil

  • @zanekuchera.. Think of changing the registers when going into different sections of a piece. You're keeping this music in the low/med register most of the time.No good! Make it more interesting by writing a "soaring" high register violin/piccolo line above all the rest (the second time around..) ;-). Learn the craft of shifting between "registers", not only changing instrument "colors" and rhythmic pads.. Way to go, though.. You'll get it eventually..
