@elfelucy Actually in the end Shirou and Saber are reunited. It happens many years later when Shirou dies and becomes heroic spirit himself. I know it because Fate/Stay Night anime is based on a Visual Novel, which I read. They just didn't show this true ending in anime, but you can watch it, here's the link :

@BleakCabaler actually, both the anime and the visual novel are based off an eroge, which got three stories with many endings, the Fate Stay/Night anime is based on the first of the three stories, Fate.

I am sure the true ending of FSN is the ending that was based on the anime. The Visual Novel one is like an additional story for what happened after storyline of the anime. I say it because many hole in the story connected to that visual novel and that the reason why the producer and writer made the ending of the anime as we see.

So Me myself See The Anime FSN one as one completed story. and it was ended when Saber Closed her eyes in that Forest.

oh and also saber accepts her fate in the end because she knew about the true Holy Grail, and also remembering the great mage about pulling the caliburn sword the great mage said "Then a miracle has a price you shall lost the most important thing that is close to you" and infact to be so down about saber's death really don't worry about it because shirou and saber will finally meet each other again, in the "ever distant utopia" and happily lived ever after...

in the last episode of it (not the anime one, but the visual novel)

shirou is in avalon, wondering himself for where he is, there is saber waiting for him with a pretty white dress, and shirou said "I am back, Saber" hearing those words saber cries with tears from the bottom of her heart that her wish for seeing shirou had finally come true, and thus they live together for eternity...

The King Arthur story itself actually is in the middle betwen reality and Tale. so it's not wrong if King Arthur is symbolized as a woman in this anime. Because I've seen it in History Channel.. as I remembered.

well, it would make sense if King Arthur still would resemble as a man. however the truth is according to the author, she is not The King Arthur himself. As to who saber really was in history, it seems that Arthur has a female descendant named Arthuria who seems to had fail to inherit the position as a king. and the author just make a up a story for her to mach her grandfather, so to speak...

I really loves this anime, so with it song. I give this anime highest point than another anime I' ve ever watched. I think the ending is sad but it's proportional though. Shiro made right decision to let Saber go, despite it's so so hard for himself. Shiro wanted to release Saber from her eternal circle of her oath and her obsession to Holy Grail, with a "Pride" as a king of Knight. So She can Rest Assure back to where she belong.
