I knew this area well back in the 1940's, as we lived in the neighborhood. The churchyard of Spitalfields church was known as Itchy Park because of all the vagrants who hung out there. Also, we spent many a night during the Buzz bomb airraids under the market in a section formally used for ripening bananas. I remember those days still.
I did a London night walking tour that included Jack the Ripper locations and ended in a pub.
