@thisherecat There was lots of comedy in MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, wasn't it? The scene where Finney prepares for sleep is hilarious, and most of the cast are amusing over-the-top characters, cast just for effect - Tony Perkins, John Gielgud, Ingrid Bergman, Wendy Hiller and so on. I always felt Poirot being more a fun character, while the grim seriousness was all for Marple.
@thisherecat I totally agree with you, finding Finney the best Poirot. Don't forget that film was made in the time that Christie was still alive and she probably was consulted on how to play Poirot as best as possible. But I wouldn't call Suchet thát bad...
@mwedzi That is exactly my problem with them, they take them selves to seriously, I think they have lost half their fun since they did away with the humor, Cpt. Hastings, Ch. Insp. Japp, and the characteristic and mood setting theme.
I loved Peter Ustinov as Poirot in Evil Under the Sun and Murder on the Nile!! I thought he was so good. For some reason, the other movies made with PU as Poirot were moved to the 1980's time period, and that took so much away from story line.I didn't like those as much as the original two. However, with Suchet as Poirot, I have to say, its perfection.I just love him as Poirot, and really couldn't think of anyone else in the role now. Still love the 1st two PU Poirot movies, though.
@SonicRawks Me too, it just would not be the same with a different actor!
Captain Hastings, Inspector Japp & Miss Lemon are brilliant too, subtle comedic values is what television lacks these days, but 'Poirot' has subtlety and class. :)
I have to say, I never liked Christie's books and stories - her style is not my cup of tea, I guess. But Suchet is such a perfect Poirot down to the details, and the series is great, exciting entertainment.
And hell, Philip Jackson as Japp is brilliant! ;)
Don't be sorry, i don't speak chinese either.

This scene is perfectly staged. There is nothing (that I can think of) that can be improved upon.
Pauline Moran is excellent here.

Suchet is not Poirot. These films are more light comedy than anything else.
Finney was the best Poirot I've yet to see. Suchet is really quite bad. A caricature, but I do not know of what.

I miss this era of Poirot films. It seems the current ones are so serious and there's almost no humor at all in them.
