Dude! Awesome! I won a Ghoul Look-A-Like contest in 1983 right about when that Son of Ghoul guy was hanging around pestering Ron Sweed, Queen Barb was still married to him, met her too. I rode the hippity hop the whole way across the stage so that clinched it for me! ;-D
ron sweed used to live in brightmoore in the late 70's... we used to go over to his house and hang out, he would hide and try to not open the door but we knew he was hiding inside. ;)
How can I get The Ghoul show on video or dvd? I have bought all of the ones that are commercially available but want more! It'd be nice to see the whole movies with segments and everything but due to the time factor mostly just the segments seem to be available.
Ron was born in Euclid Ohio and started playing the Ghoul in 1971 at the old channel 61 (Kaiser) in Cleveland. When that station went dark, Ron moved to the Kaiser station in Detroit(channel 50). Bobby Magic, the program director at WDMT-FM108 in Cleveland, brought the Ghoul back to Cleveland in the fall of 1983. He then got his old job back at the new re-born channel 61-Cleveland. And that's the truth and I know, because I was there!
You are right, I watched the ghoul on 61 in the early 70's while living in Mentor, OH, and then watched him in Detroit on channel 50 in the late 70's. From what I remember, his show was better when it was in Cleveland. He would drink beer and smoke while doing the show. What a role model for a 10 year old! Even at that age I knew it was just a gag.
A naitive of Ohio;Born in 1950,Ron Sweed first was on the Detroit Syndicated station CH50 WKBD Kaiser Broadcasting in Detroit Mich. from the fall of 1971 till 1975.He came back to Detroit in 1978 on CH20 WXON for a short while and back again in April of 1983 on CH62 WGPN FOR A VERY sort while.During the times he was not in Detroit he was back in Ohio. His showing of low budget movies with his sound effects mocking them and his blowing up anything from toilet to pumpkins was the best!!!
I know..I thought it didn't go through the first time..dah.. The Ghoul was the "King of Crap"...The Ghoul and Froggy what a team..Ron Sweed still makes a couple of appearances to Mich. every year for different events.
Oh, and when the Ghoul was on Channel 50 in Detroit in 1971, he was syndicated. The show was a recording that was made in Cleveland to play for the Detroit Market. When the Kaiser station in Cleveland (channel 61) went dark, then the Ghoul (Ron Sweed) moved to Detroit and stayed there until 1983, when Bobby Magic brought him back to Cleveland for a weekend show on a local FM station (WDMT FM 108). After he got his foot back in the market, he was able to get back into the "new" channel 61.
Back in the 80s he returned to Detroit TV at the then WXON ch 20. After they cancelled his show, I did not see any other station bring him back to the airwaves! So sad!

Ron Sweed was The Ghoul, first on Kaiser Channel 61, then on 61 again, then WB55. Possibly one of the biggest Ghoulardi fans in town. Again, there is nothing like the original.

Way cool! I've been a fan since show #2. Murders In The Rue Morgue was the flick.
