The term "sensitivity" is misleading. Technically, she has the reference oscillator's frequency offset too far from the variable oscillator's frequency. If the front-panel pitch tuning control can't be adjusted to correct this, then:
1) Adjust internal coil L3 for 285kHz at transistor Q3's collector.
2) Center the front-panel pitch tuning control, and adjust internal coil L5 for a zero- beat when the hand is about 2 feet away from the pitch antenna.
