This one and others like "To Daddy" are Heart~Wrenching! They tell the truth about things that really happen in life. This is a bautiful but sad song! Thank you for posting this! Glad I came upon this Channel.
I've been watching Dolly since the Porter Wagner days and she has always been a beautiful, and very talented artist. Both writing her own music, and singing her own songs. I've been very inspired thru her music, and her faith.
She's brilliant - her words leave me cold. Just what she's saying happened to me - turning his back on his beautiful talented daughter as he walked out the front door to another woman - never to be seen or heard of again. (He's been seen around)
Dolly DID write this song. Although she ain't the oldest daughter like the song says. But when she recorded it she was 23. It got released on her album "My Blue Ridge Mountain Boy". The story is true.
In different interviews (even her on youtube) she tells about her father who cheated on ther mother. Besides the 11 brothers and sister Dolly has in her family there are at least 4 more her father had with other women. Later she wrote another song "To Daddy", same subject.
Especially...my brother. I was 10 and seen it...he took most of the beatings...but we all got many everytime the bastard got drunk. My ONLY regret is that I wasn't old enough to have been the one to kill him...because I wouldn't shed a tear over him...unlike my brother who had black and blue bruises on his neck that night..and is addicted to so much stuff just trying to forget what he had to do to save us...Sorry for the vent..my mom would have been 71 this month on the 28th...RIP mom!!!!
My brother NEVER forgave himself for doing what he had NO choice but to do...Our mom dying 3 yrs later damn near destroyed us...I hate that EVIl bastard for what he done to our family!!!!!! Esp
I hadn't heard this song before. But, her begging her dad not to leave-sounds like me begging our evil dad not to beat our mom when she got home because the fast food place that they got food from, had forgot our fries. I begged him not to beat her, as he promised to when she and my brother got back. God the tears are flying down my face, as I type. Then, my brother begged him, not long after, to please not make him have to pull the trigger-my 17 yr old brother realized he had no choice....
No, I don't think so. It was just the song. I can see why you'd guess that, because Dolly based much of her songs on her life, but no, they were never apart. After all, with 12 kids, I don't think that would be wise anyway!
Dolly will always be my Hero, the one who gave me my morals and values... Thank you for this Video, it brings tears to my eyes remembering when I was a child and my many thoughts she introduced. Thank you again!
people we don't have songs with this kind of meanings right now...

actually, Dolly did write this song, but part of the liberty of a songwriter, is to make up stories, as Dolly did in this song.

Gorgeous song. Beautiful singer. But I get the impression that she just got seriously kissed. Anyone else see the smeared lipstick?
