@DonBonNetwork yeh but they needed to make room for other things and reuse the tapes unfortunately for fans of doctor who, dads army and many more, im just glad they didn't keep wiping the tapes up till the 80's. just think, could have lost some really good tom baker ones :(
Technically speaking, Paul McGann did not re-generate as he only did a one-off special in 1989 and the series didn't return until 2005 when Christopher Eccleston took over.
Longest running sci fi show contuniously, they should be proud. There is only two doctors I liked David Tenant and my all time doctor Tom Baker. Tom had the charm and he will always be my favourite. I have seen sneek stuff of the new doctor blaaaaaaaaa. Thats all I can say. He isnt the doctor at all.
he isnt part of official continuity, he played a version of the first doctor in 2 american dalek movies that were based on the first 2 dalek serials, but the doctor is portrayed as an eccentric human scientist instead of a timelord
just one of those things where the pilot for the american relaunch failed meaning it wasnt seen again till 2005 when it was recast with eccleston
hes still produced alot of audios tho n theres a massive expanded media via books etc giving him one of the longest regenerations ever. several hundered years infact
There was a possibility of Fox putting it in their Fall 1996 schedule. I know this because I spoke to a Fox exec the night of the broadcast. But apparently the ratings for it weren't good enough. And no one else would pick it up.
Wow, just from reading all of these comments, it looks like the Dr. Who world is bigger than I thought. Books? Crazy. How many of those were there?
Tom Baker is classic, but David Tennant is my favorite. Has anyone else felt like they're just regenerating the doctor in the newer series just for whatever random reason they want to? Back then they kept doctors longer. In the new series they've done 3 regenerations in 4 years. That's nuts.
The doctor has 2 regenerations left, right? It kinda sounds like they want to kill off the doctor. Wait...if there's alternate dimensions, isn't there a dimension where the Time Lords still exist?
i dunno. the writers are still to reveal if the latest regen counts towards his total. n the RTD reconned there was 1 group of timelords in all realities who governed them
which is why theyre now sealed cos theyre all dead
I'm curious what show tardiselliot has been watching. There's nothing of this nature ever been mentioned in the revived series. And nothing in the classic series to suggest there was anything more than 1 group of timelords, either... weird. Good clip though.
Very well put together; I particularly liked it when you put the duration for which they portrayed him. The music and vid together gave me chills. So much history, huh? Btw, if Tom Baker portrayed the Dr. longest, why was Paul McGann's 9 years but Baker holds the record?
well i put in McGanns yrs as 9 because the expanded media of the eight doctor is possibly 1 of his longest regenerations. covering the books, which covers more than 100 yrs. then the audios and finally the time war.
but tom officially holds the record as the longest and best serving doctor
Can anaybody tell me sylvester produced 2 dalek audious after remeberance, the genocide machine and return of the daleks, ace recognises the daleks in the genocide machine, so that would put it after the events of rememberance. In the genocide machine Skaro still exsists yet in Davros's next audio it doesn't, then in Doctor who the movie and The time of the daleks (both 8 doctor stories) Skaro still exsists. I'm confused, when was skaro destroyed?
well it depends on how wide a story ur open 2. i personally follow the stories of the Eight Doctor Adventures in which a larger dalek plot allowed them to save Skaro from its demise. which would then fit Kanns description of its destruction in the time war. (I accept that genesis contributes to the war etc. but more as things that lead to it not actually part of the main war.)
give him a break he got one (underated) tv movie before it was cancelled.
plus i sorta count him up till 2005 cos the book range ran (with some superb stories) n he also starred as part of the big finish. plus with the depth of his history the casting credit deserved a decade to get the point across. or he'd just look like another eccleston in terms of how long he lasted
christopher eccleston didn't wanna get type cast or tight cast however you say it didn't wanna just be remembered as the doctor in his acting well once you've been the doctor people remember you for being the doctor famous role lol
You know, if they put McGanns stint as the Doctor as being from 1996-2005, then they should definately put McCoy's stint as the doctor from being 1987-1996. At least he was in the movie.
Did he have the sonic Screwdriver through all regenerations?
DonBonNetwork 1 year ago
@DonBonNetwork
it was invented by the second doctor
destroyed early in the davison era and then brought back in the 1996 movie

@tardiselliot actually, in the 1st new series annual, it said that the second doctor was the first to USE the sonic screwdriver.

n as for the books. there are around 80 0dd for the eight doctor. n another 100 or so for the classic doctors

u dont actually see the regen. he just sorta goes into that spiral thing as u said.
there is a theory he didnt actually regenerate in those moments. Look up season 6b

ive got the war games and it looks like he does rgen then.
