@CyanoticFuture go suck on firefighters cock dude..wildland firefighters work for the forest service, which has a motto; caring for the land and serving people. there are certain fires that are left alone to burn a bit. and not all fires are set by nature, there are tons of fires set by people or vehicles off the freeways or in the forest..there are campgrounds, homes, archeological sites, etc that need to be saved..dont be so close-minded bud..
And while i respect the hell out of any firefighter, paid vollie, part time, city ,rural, private, municipal, structural wildland etc......one can easily say the majority of wildland fires dont need to be fought and therefore wildland firefighters truly are hotshots wasting energy and money by fighting something typically set by nature that has been occurring for a long time before FDs were established in an area where most of the time the only thing threatened is a forest...
Amen Therebel, 99% of the wildland fires never even get mentioned in papers, but the littlest dumpster fire in a city gets pictures of the "hero" city firefighters. And when they wildland firefighters aren't fighting fires they are pt'ing, training, working in the forest doing all the work for the other departments to meet their goals, prescribed burning, traveling.....
LOL, this is SO true!!!!! I used to work for the US Forest Service. Now I work for a city FD. Everything said in this is TRUE. If it wasn't for the half assed management and red tape bs with the Forest Service I would still be there. But I sure do love the 4 day weekends now, LOL. And yes, one season in wildland = one whole career in structural. If you want some damn good, in shape and experienced firefighters who don't get the big eye, look at the forest service. Man do I miss it!
Hey man we are all brothers here. Im wildland and structural. Yes, im not a hotshot so I dont suffer as nearly as much as you guys. But still... we all put our lives on the line for others. Structural or Wildland we are both working towards the same goal: the safety of those we protect.
