  • Kraftwerk represented like a big just found diamond rock that later on other artists were able to lapidate on and improve it quality.. Even though some musics might sound too dull, it was genius and clearly affected music in a huge way..

  • @xCARSARESEXY Nah, that's taking it too far, they were good guys, I think, unless one of em has a secret past in the Hitler Youth?

  • @xCARSARESEXY I agree, mate, Kraftwerk are overrated, great innovators, but dull music.

  • I remember when I first heard this song. I was in high school, and thought it was a total joke! The lyrics are pseudo-deep and the chorus in totally out of meter w/the song. Hilarious!

  • I like Silence's version better....

  • @blackgirl3103

Bullshit! Nobody is doing Kraftwerk songs better than Kraftwerk .

Although I have to admit that the version from Silence + Anne Clark is very good.

  • this sounds a lot like "Clear" by Kraftwerk... I wonder if their song was inspired by this.

  • @atlienology oops, I meant clear by Cybotron.

  • ESTOESMUZIKTOTAL.killlandy572

  • Anyone know the story behind this song? Someone told me once that it was inspired by a meltdown that Janis Joplin had, where fueled by drugs she couldn't stand her own image in the mirror and started trying to change her appearance. Supposedly it escalated to her cutting her own face. Anyone ever hear that story or know if it's true?

  • @sex6cult9revolution: Never heard that story & can't find anything that verifies it. Quoting to Wikipedia: "Hütter and Schneider have described the song as auto-biographical."

  • @0x51d Hey, thanks for replying. I guess I could have Googled it myself. It was probably just the guy's own interpretation. It made for a good story, anyway.

  • @sex6cult9revolution I know that this song was inspired by "The portrait of Dorian Gray", it was suggested by my boyfriend's English grammar book!

  • @sex6cult9revolution I've heard from documentaries that the song is partly about David Bowie. Kraftwerk and Bowie hung out together in Germany for some time.

  • @777Kwyjibo Bowie and Kraftwerk never "hung out together", they probably just had a quick chat in the recording studios where Bowie made his Berlin Triology. God u Kraftwerk fans exaggerate anything surrounding your godly Kraftwerk.

  • @ElectronicMusicUK David Bowie asked Kraftwerk to support him on his Station to Station tour back in the 70's and they were scheduled to record together, but it never happened. Don't know if that qualifies as "hanging out" or not, I suppose it could have been a quick chat. Information taken from the documentary Kraftwerk and the Electronic Revolution (2008). If you doubt the veracity or objectivity of this documentary that's up to you.

  • @777Kwyjibo Who cares, what could Kraftwerk teach Bowie? David Bowie is a giant compared to them, I really don't rate Kraftwerk, good innovators, but the music is dull.

  • @ElectronicMusicUK Who cares? You do since you bothered to reply. David Bowie was and is a culture vulture who attached himself to whatever popular style was emerging at the time. He was basically burned out by the mid-70's and was fortunate enough to hook up with Brian Eno and soak up the krautrock vibes coming from Germany. He did the same thing in the 90's with his electronica infused albums. I like Bowie, but his popular rock didn't have the kind of influence of Kraftwerk's music did.

  • @777Kwyjibo what d'ya mean "culture vulture"? U don't arf talk bollocks mate, he wasn't burn't out, nor was he fortunate to"hook up" with Eno, Bowie by 1974 was a big star, whereas Eno had just left Roxy music in 73 as a nothing group member. Krautrock vibes? What? There's no "vibes" there, Krautrock is boring, the only thing about it is they showed other artists u coiuld do much more by electronic means only - so what? That's innovation, not music. Bowie, musically, is more gifted.

  • @ElectronicMusicUK Yeah, Bowie was gifted, have a lot of respect for him, but definitely a culture vulture. He did an R&B album right before the Berlin Trilogy because, guess what?, that was the current hotness. If you can only see "innovation" in the music of bands like Kraftwerk, Cluster, Neu!, and Can, and no musicality, hmm, don't know what to say, you're missing out.

  • @777Kwyjibo I have a large collection of music (see my classical channel mentioned on my frontpage), I not only see innovation in music, but also, Drama(symphonies) intellect (fugues),beauty(adagio in piano sonatas) and so on...I just think most of Kraftwerk's music is dull, but some of it I like, I'll up load one today, guess what it is.....to me the work I'm gonna upload is beautiful - so Kraftwerk could make music if they wanted to, they were more interested in new electronic-sound ideas.

  • I`m looking for a good Samaritan to help me find out what synth or effect they used.

I`m talking about the first synth you can hear in the song, with a mix of echo and sequenced pitch shifted notes

  • @tweedman1975 it seems to be the sound of the minimoog with delay. it's similar to the sound of the korg monopoly. there are great vst versions of both of them. try out the arturia minimoog it's great!

  • @sabotage1111 thanks man!

  • ahhh yeaahhh, this takes me back!

  • Amazing song. It sounds to me like a wonderful, sad lullaby...

  • i love everyone who appreciates kraftwerk. true human beings in my opinion. i love sharing my fascination in this music with others

  • really cool!

  • I love listening to this in the middle of the night, it's very relaxing...and a bit spooky, but there's nothing wrong with that ;)

  • agreed.

  • Cybotron Clear

  • He made up the person he wanted to be

And changed into a new personality

  • Excellent song, fathers of electronic music..

  • LOL Shyyrn you play too many Rpgs, don't you? ;)

  • As weird as it may seem, while this song is obviously very electronic, I can't help but imagine medieval times... when I listen to this song and close my eyes, I see the corridors of a feudal castle at nightfall... grimy, lit only by the weak light of torches, full of ominous shadows...

Amazing, isn't it, how Kraftwerk could get such emotion out of the most electronic of instruments?

  • That's Kraftwerk for you...

I get all bubbly whenever I listen to Computer Love :D

  • @Shyyrn

they are Germans... Valhalla, Valkirie, etc .... pure gotic!... you have a very nice imagination:-)

  • @mk2007al

Could sworn that was at the end... But it might as well be, as it's the last new bit. That part just blows my mind.

It's up there with the best of the best from anybody! Can't believe there was ever a time I didn't listen to them... ._.

  • bought the album yesterday!

  • surreal.

    it's so..unusual

  • This is just lovely to listen too.

    Thanks for uploading this :)

  • Incredible music! This is true art. Kraftwerk makes today`s bands look like a joke.

  • @magyarwho WHY YOU BASHIN KANYE

  • @magyarwho very true

  • @magyarwho Enough with the "yesterday's music was better son". Ok they are good, but, nowadays, paul kalbrenner and other electro dj, musician, group, whatever, have a really great talent. Not totally popular, but the monkey find their feces in the looking glass

  • Love this song, the first time I've heard it in English, what great lyrics! (My German is rather poor ^^)

  • sublime

  • Uma música para a eternidade,eu tenho o disco (vinil).

  • What kind of a record player is that? Model?

  • Electronic sound, recorded and replicated on analog form, reencoded on a electronic format again as youtube video. Awesome :)

  • Kraftwerk was way ahead of time!

I like the Siouxsie & The Banshees cover too!

  • Ah yes jangenk, Siouxsie & The Banshees cover is brilliant!

  • I am agree with this too :)

  • Cocteau Twins

  • pure genius,this is magic

  • du caralho!

  • There's something about this album...

  • My favourite ever kraftwerk song. love that empty, soul-less kind of electronic sound. So kind of cool and mysterious; even after listening to it for over 30 years.

  • if this was taking place since the early 70s, one would expect new bands to have gone so much further away in their sound exploration... Can anyone reccomend another nice electronic band that follows krqaftwerk leads? please..

  • New Order

  • Komputer seem to strive for duplication of the KW sound.

  • Mr Velcro Fastener

  • Fantastic.....

  • star saxx

  • Kraftwerk 4 ever !

  • Very spacious, good feeling, very good message of humility and respect. And its a very true message.

  • Trans-Europe Express wasn't released in 1975 (according to your description) it was released in 1977! Radio-Activity was 1975!
