same here I like 3DS Max because of it's great user interface(U.I.:) how maya has some really great character rigging tools. But I think 3DS Max user friendly. Digital tutors has some great maya training video's.

CINEMA 4D!!!! Its what disney uses for every 3d movie. But if you're tight on cash, give BLENDER a try.

I remember that it takes around 1 week, and we used 5 (single-core) computers. The most complex scene (the bar scene) with many reflection/refraction takes around 100 hours.

Lots-o-Objects with a story line too! Great scence transitions. Most of the actors are a little stiff, but of course they're penguins.
