  • Does anyone know what the song is that he's playing in the begining

  • his playing inspired me :-)

  • I love seeing the match grip. A lot of people automatically think you have to play traditional if your into jazz. It's just a grip!!!

  • what rides and hi hats are those? they are soo beautiful as well as his playing

  • @Jazzdrum1210 K Custom Complex series

  • thats one classy motherfucker!

  • I'm a jazz drummer and I play matched grip. Am I wrong?

  • @FurlanPaolo

is good to be wrong, nothing better than different.

  • His grip is not what I'd expect from a drummer of his caliber...but you can't argue with results. Holy shit, he's a monster.

  • @HairlessApeBattery you can't seriously think that a drummer's grip is a measure of his calibre...?

  • I guess 2 people don't understand musical talent.

On Bill: my favorite modern jazz drummer.

  • I'd sell my mom for those cymbals.. ;-)

  • @fardrum

    funny as hell .

  • Definitely one of the most individual jazz combo drummer on the scene today. I can tell it's his playing within a few seconds! Such finesse, such touch, such creativity, and an unbelievable sense of musicianship!

  • @airwalk5292

Do you know WHY you've never seen a gay kid below the age of 12? Because kids below the age of 12 HAVE NO orientation. They haven't hit puberty; they're neither gay, straight nor bi.

But on a much better note, I love Bill's swing. It's fleet and sensitive, but it's really potent as well. Good shit.

  • For drummers who are used to hearing/playing more easily discernible time signatures, this type of improv jazz can really be a challenge...also, I was somewhat surprised to see matched grip with a jazz drummer (like Stewart)...

  • Great splashes!! Anyone know the models?

  • @airwalk5292 GTFO, you religious zealot. If it's a choice, then tell me two things: 1) why would someone CHOOSE to be a member of a class of people who are despised and hated by narrow-minded hatemongers like you, and 2) what business is it of yours?

  • i literally cannot believe that people find bill stewart's sexuality and the morality of his sexuality more interesting and more of a topic for discussion than the beautiful phrases he's playing. morons.

  • @airwalk5292 why is there a full blown discussion on the morality of being gay on this video? did I miss something? is Bill Stewart gay? does listening to jazz make a person immediately gay? am I in danger of becoming gay for watching this video?

    doubtful.

so why not take the conversation somewhere where only the two of you can give a shit all by yourselves and you can spew all your religious fanatacism anti-whatever shit all you want. leave this space for people who care about the music.

  • @avedisdrummer989 bill stewart is infact gay...not that it really matters

  • he is a magnificent drummer. love it when he plays with john scofield trio and pat metheny trio. absolute class

  • @airwalk5292 No. There is nothing wrong with it. I believe that discrimination against sexual orientation is a lot like racism, and I don't see why society places so much importance on whether someone's gay or not. I'm not saying that being gay is better than being heterosexual, but in a sense, I am pro-gay. I asked you the question in the first place because to me, it would explain a lot.

  • @airwalk5292 I ran out of room. If I may recall what you said earlier: "the media makes people think that being gay is ok." That clearly implies that you think that media is misleading people by making them think this way. It's a valid question. Answer it.

  • @airwalk5292 listen, most of the sources I have found say that yes, homosexuality is genetic. How is whether or not you believe that being gay is wrong "irrelevant to the conversation"? This all started because I responded to a homophobic comment. Plus, the fact that you don't want to answer my question tells me that you do have a problem with people who are gay, but you are afraid to say so because you don't want people to persecute you.

  • @airwalk5292 first of all i believe that yes, there is a level of choice to being gay, but there's something in our genes that tells us this. Second, are you saying there's something wrong with being gay?

  • his high tom almost sounds like a snare drum (snares thrown off). great sounding as a whole

  • excellent left foot ps there are plenty of gay drummers so what?

  • @ToxicTrollz So what? even if he is, there's nothing wrong with that. for god's sake, sexual orientation isn't even a choice! ignorance may be bliss, but i can cause a lot of harm, too. think about what you're posting.

  • @ToxicTrollz I REALLY hope that you aren't talking about Bill, because he's a waaaay better drummer than you'll ever be.

  • @startrooper64 you just fed a troll..

  • @billybobs309 DAMMIT! SOMEONE HELP! SOMEONE GAG HIM SO THAT HE DOESN'T SWALLOW MY COMMENT!

  • @startrooper64 nomnomnom...

  • @startrooper64 I'm smarter than you.

  • contrary to popular belief, I believe it was Bill's magnificent jawline that sank the Titanic.

  • what main ride is he bill using here? Sounds very old k like! sweet!

  • What type of ride is he using?? plz respond thnx

  • @beatcrazy14 his signature, either dry complex II or dry complex medium thin

  • @greatgretschsound29 mmk thanks

  • @greatgretschsound29 My friend actually has one of these and at first listen it midly resembled the top of a trash can you would find on Seseme Street haha Once it was used within context so so good and honestly has a great wash for some heavier applications as well

  • @juddgreg333 yeah man i just got one its awesome

  • @beatcrazy14 dry complex ride 2 by zildjian

Bill: Yeah, its true..I'm awsome :D

  • @drv30 that's Jack Dejohnette... if you don't know him, check this out: watch?v=m-xRldjmfwg ...sure u gonna love it! =)

  • @KikoDorea

Oh I figured it was him since after browsing in "related videos", but thanks for the help. These drummers are a amazing!

  • what is that ride? the one on his right ?

  • I wonder if he's a smooth with the ladies as he is with his kit ;)

  • @javi9446 from what I hear, it's more about being smooth with the fellas... not that this changes in any way the way we hear his playing ;-)

  • Smooth and awesome!!

  • Love this guy's touch! Great player.

  • is he in a band if yes can someone tell which band is it plz :)

  • @SsremysS mad bands haha. hes playing in seamus blakes quintet (sax player in this vid), john scofield's trio, some of chris potter's groups (which may or may not stll be playing), and a trio with larry goldings and peter bernstein. many others too, im not sure of them all

  • favorite jazz drummer. no doubt

  • Booring... lol

  • Damn what's that tune in 5 at the end? Is that one of Seamus Blake's?

  • 1:34, so sick

  • holy shit YES!

  • woa the best jazz drummers of the last years

  • He's so good. So much of his playing reminds me of Dejohnette. His hats have as much freedom as his snare.

  • @cearleywine he stays in time though. dejohnette loves to fall behind and jump ahead of the beat.

  • @cearleywine great description of what makes Stewart great.
