Definitely one of the most individual jazz combo drummer on the scene today. I can tell it's his playing within a few seconds! Such finesse, such touch, such creativity, and an unbelievable sense of musicianship!
Do you know WHY you've never seen a gay kid below the age of 12? Because kids below the age of 12 HAVE NO orientation. They haven't hit puberty; they're neither gay, straight nor bi.
But on a much better note, I love Bill's swing. It's fleet and sensitive, but it's really potent as well. Good shit.
For drummers who are used to hearing/playing more easily discernible time signatures, this type of improv jazz can really be a challenge...also, I was somewhat surprised to see matched grip with a jazz drummer (like Stewart)...
@airwalk5292 GTFO, you religious zealot. If it's a choice, then tell me two things: 1) why would someone CHOOSE to be a member of a class of people who are despised and hated by narrow-minded hatemongers like you, and 2) what business is it of yours?
i literally cannot believe that people find bill stewart's sexuality and the morality of his sexuality more interesting and more of a topic for discussion than the beautiful phrases he's playing. morons.
@airwalk5292 why is there a full blown discussion on the morality of being gay on this video? did I miss something? is Bill Stewart gay? does listening to jazz make a person immediately gay? am I in danger of becoming gay for watching this video?
doubtful.
so why not take the conversation somewhere where only the two of you can give a shit all by yourselves and you can spew all your religious fanatacism anti-whatever shit all you want. leave this space for people who care about the music.
@airwalk5292 No. There is nothing wrong with it. I believe that discrimination against sexual orientation is a lot like racism, and I don't see why society places so much importance on whether someone's gay or not. I'm not saying that being gay is better than being heterosexual, but in a sense, I am pro-gay. I asked you the question in the first place because to me, it would explain a lot.
@airwalk5292 I ran out of room. If I may recall what you said earlier: "the media makes people think that being gay is ok." That clearly implies that you think that media is misleading people by making them think this way. It's a valid question. Answer it.
@airwalk5292 listen, most of the sources I have found say that yes, homosexuality is genetic. How is whether or not you believe that being gay is wrong "irrelevant to the conversation"? This all started because I responded to a homophobic comment. Plus, the fact that you don't want to answer my question tells me that you do have a problem with people who are gay, but you are afraid to say so because you don't want people to persecute you.
@airwalk5292 first of all i believe that yes, there is a level of choice to being gay, but there's something in our genes that tells us this. Second, are you saying there's something wrong with being gay?
@ToxicTrollz So what? even if he is, there's nothing wrong with that. for god's sake, sexual orientation isn't even a choice! ignorance may be bliss, but i can cause a lot of harm, too. think about what you're posting.
@greatgretschsound29 My friend actually has one of these and at first listen it midly resembled the top of a trash can you would find on Seseme Street haha Once it was used within context so so good and honestly has a great wash for some heavier applications as well
All of the dynamics of drumming to tunes that are really hard to feel out, Billy does it, I like his no nonsense about playing....He keeps it real.thanks for the ratt-tattle tat billy.
@SsremysS mad bands haha. hes playing in seamus blakes quintet (sax player in this vid), john scofield's trio, some of chris potter's groups (which may or may not stll be playing), and a trio with larry goldings and peter bernstein. many others too, im not sure of them all

His grip is not what I'd expect from a drummer of his caliber...but you can't argue with results. Holy shit, he's a monster.

@HairlessApeBattery you can't seriously think that a drummer's grip is a measure of his calibre...?

@cearleywine he stays in time though. dejohnette loves to fall behind and jump ahead of the beat.
