I was wondering. How does a DJ know how to do those type of mixes with what songs? Is it just experience? Or is there sort of a script? This song then the next and you can mix this and that way?

@2mankrudotcom There's no real solution to finding out what works and what doesn't besides practice. DJing requires a lot of practice, and all of us DJs tend to mess around with interesting mixes. The best way to practice is by sorting your tracks by BPM and going through them from the top to the bottom, skipping tracks here and there depending on exactly what kind of mix that you are going for. Besides that, make sure that you listen to your music as much as possible so that you know the songs.

I would recommend joining the forum at DJTechTools so that if you ever need assistance on anything you can ask a question to DJs of all levels of experience who spin all genres. But make sure that while you are going through your practice sessions that you are still enjoying mixing, because the biggest difference between a good mix and a great mix is the vibe that the DJ puts through to the crowd. Always keep it energetic and fun.

@cr4ftr - yeah, I am already a member of the forum at DJTechTools and like that forum. I also like what Ean is doing and want to also do similar stuff, but from a noob perspective. About keeping up the energy, it seems to be an issue with a lot of DJs. They always seem to end up on a skewed song or two or three or more. Depends on how interested they are about whether or not people are dancing. Some discussions I've read, where it is actually a goal of some DJs to play poopers. I think otherwise

Ehhh.... I hate to break it to you dude, but basic is best with a groove or swing.

Awesome tutorial for using effects to xfer swings... maybe more suited for ableton? Basic DJing techs help keep swings, or change them. breakdown cuts, build ups, and drops, so on.
