@1canyonguy This is one old tune I have heard versions from the likes of Marlene Dietrich forgive my spelling but this is the first version I heard and I was weak from it. Not to say one is better that the other but this version rocks me for it was my first.

Just a perfect pairing of souls and like minds, singers, writers, musicians, two of the best examples of their generation. In a time when everything is about self, these two "stars" always

championed those that came before them, great human beings, certainly not perfect. More like a brother/sister team, this poignant song(around for years) takes on such meaning when relationships are so fragile. Nice light reggae never gets in the way of the words. Tow of my favorites growing up in the 70's.

@rckymtnhighs The Weavers wrote this tune in about 1950. The music was credited to "Joel Newman", the lyrics to "Paul Campbell". Paul Campbell was a pseudonym for Howard Richmond, publisher of The Weavers, who were originally Seeger, Hays, Fred Hellerman and Ronnie Gilbert.

true the weevers did this tailered version first; but they got it from a version sung by Led Belly who got it from someone who sung a celtic version. Led Belly liked the tune but changed the Galic word for milk to wine and pretty much was the orginator of the "kisses sweeter than wine" song

It should be noted that this was originally a song by The Weavers; but based on a traditional Irish tune that was given blues chords by Huddie Ledbetter in the late '30s. Browne & Raitt cover it beautifully as a duet, methinks.
