  • Gotta get me a Sigma 10-20.

  • This video is exactly what I wanted to see... Amsterdam film with a Canon Eos 7D! Thanks for the upload! I am a cannabis advocate & envy Amsterdam's policies. I want to go there soooo bad.

  • LOVE AMS

  • Is this converted to Prores?

  • @rubent100 Not Prores, but I did convert it to XDCAM EX 1080P just for easier editing, using mpeg streamclip batch convert.

  • @Visualbrother XDCAM huh, i can't play that type of file on my system. The only video player that can open that file is VLC but it looks really choppy. XDCAM is mpeg4 right?

  • @rubent100 Well XDCAM EX is the editing format, nobody says the final video output has to be XDCAM EX :) What I send to YouTube is a H264 or a HD WMV.

So edit on whatever format you like, output on whatever format you like, they are seperate issues.

On a side note: if you have a Mac and can edit XDCAM EX your Quicktime player can play XDCAM, other wise you would not be able to edit it.

  • @Visualbrother I see, i didn't have to much trouble editing out of .mov, is there really a need to convert to XDCAM?

  • @rubent100 Not really no, for my system it just works faster when doing effects and quick timed cuts play a bit more fluid, also much more responsive when jog/shuttling, so I prefer it. For grading I re-connect to the original files to get the most out of it.

  • Very nice ;)

  • did you use a rig of some sort?

my 7d never has this little jello when i do it completely handheld without a rig! very hard to do unless u have a very steady hand. if you did use a rig, wat kind did you use?

  • @freddyfreddy101 Just a monopod, no rig. And with a superwide like this Sigma 10-20 mm it is a lot easier to keep things steady. If you want to shoot a bit more close or with a zoom, get one of the Canon lenses with a image stabilizer.

And if you don't have one, get a Z-finder if you want to shoot video. You need that extra point of contact when shooting handheld, holding the camera in front of you to look at the LCD will make it very unstable.

    Hope this makes sense :)

  • I'm betting those low mode shots were done on a monopod. Turn the camera upside down and start to walk. Flip the image upright in post. That's my guess.

  • Not much of a bet considering that info is in.. the info!?

Vimeo actually allowed me to add a photo of how I shot the low stuff from Flickr. A link to that photo is also in the info.

  • Canon 7Ds look so much like a camera not a camcorder. Does that mean it takes Photos

  • What's the music? And did you use anything to help stabilize your handholding?

  • Cool Stuff!! What kind of Glide Mount do you use? Home Made?

  • I'd still love to see your setup for those low angle shots. Just started using the 7D myself.

  • how did you hold the camera so still for those low-to-the-ground walking shots?

  • You better be smoking that weed. Don't take your location for granted ;)

  • No thanks, smoking weed is for tourists, I stick to drinking water and eating bio veggies :)

  • I'm getting this camera too! what software do you use?

  • Final cut pro

  • Wow!!!

  • great video! man i want a camera like that too

  • Yeah the 7d rules when you want something funky and different. Volgens mij erg kikkuh voor clippies.

  • Great video! I love 7D :) Love the movement and Im suprised how well the 7D operated during the footage. I have to try it myself, I got the camera and the same lens.

  • Yep, pretty ok camera, got some other crazy stuff shot during a car tuning show, but i'm afraid it will make people throw up when I show it...

Canon made a solid video cam in the body of a DSLR. It is horrible to operate without a proper viewfinder type thing but hah, end result is pretty cool.

  • Wow. Nice angles!

Gotta love how the more boring vids get so many hits. ;)

  • Perhaps I should change title to "Amsterdamprostitutes in drugwar shot on canon 7d, with rebel base under attack by fettish fanboys" You know, cover all internet user bases :)

  • That really is great, no one else is doing movement like that with low angles & wide lenses. You've put the motion back into motion picture :P

That shot at 2.33 is awesome too, was that with the monopod? How did you pull that off?

  • Thanks, I like movement, all these semi slideshow videos wiith depressing music bore me to death :) yes just a monopod, videos should be fun and stupid :)

  • Actually it is very fun and smart. It is one the best video i haven when searching for Canon 7D.

The other 2 are: Perya and One night in Beijing.

  • Nice video !! love the music !!

  • Your video is amazing. It makes me wanting to visit Amsterdam.

  • Thanks, is it the big "Cannabis" sign that makes you want to come over? :)

  • Hey Visual Bro

Nice video! How did you get those low height fast moving/walking shots? Did you put the camera on some kind of suspension such as SteadiCam?

    Cheers,

    DigitalRev

  • Hi DigitalRev,

Thanks, just a bit of fooling around on a friday night.

Yes I used this special device called my left arm.... and a Gitzo monopod tripod :) So really simple, no steadicam or anything just a superwide lens and a bit of controlled walking around.

  • Wow this 'my left arm' device is really amazing. Are you sure you didn't use My Right Arm™ to boot? :) Seriously though, we are amazed by your steady hands. Fantastic!

  • Thanks (bowing) and yes I did use the extra right arm extension kitt that comes with the my left arm because after 6 hours my left arm got a bit tired :)

The Canon 7d has a nice solid build so when it hangs from a monopod the low mass gives a pretty stable image. And I had a LCD on top of the monopod on the other end. Will make a video showing the setup.

  • what is the classical song during the last half of the video? very nice

  • It is during the whole video, its Handels The Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheba

  • thank you, hope they have piano/ guitar version on youtube

  • Oops sorry missed this quetion but see Chatfan answered it correctly.

  • hi there!!!

    great shots! congrats!

what kind o lenses are u using on this video?

i bought my 7D recently, i am using a canon 50mm 1.4, but my focus is not good like yours, what kind of lenses do you recomend to get permanent sharp focus like yours?

    cheers!

    fred, from brazil

  • Hey Fred,

This is the Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 zoom and all the moving shots are done in 10mm. But you can still get out of focus stuff, I just did not put it in the video :)

For permanent sharp focus I recommend practicing a lot with the 50mm because that is a great lens!

Or get the Sigma if you like suuuupeeeerrrwiiiiiiiiideeeeee :P
