  • This is the one I remember - right down to the volume "burp" in the middle.

I never heard the Canned Heat version until very recently- don't know how I missed it, but I prefer the original.

  • My favourite version of this song.

  • I've always heard and loved the versions by Roxy Music and especially Canned Heat. But I never heard the original version before. And this is a one-man band. Cool!

  • I honestly think that I am the only person that I know that listened to this music all the time, Your Royal Countess, Tammy Mast PhD, Republican Central Committee Precinct Chair 34* Flathead County Montana 59901, and next week Prophecy Reverend Tamm. Graduate of Religious Studies.

  • I didn't the original version first but I really like it

  • Fabulous! Thanks for posting

  • GOOD TO SEE SOME HONEST YOUNG WHITE KIDS ADMITTING WHERE THIS SONG C AME FROMJ.

  • @Screamingdk I'm a 69 yr. old honest white kid, heard Ray Charles, Jimmy Reed, Elmo James etc: on my radio when I was about nine yrs.old & was hooked ! No Pat Boone for this blue eyed soul brother ! The roots of this music go all the way back to the church. Jimmy Reed is in the Upper Room playin rhythm guitar 4 Mahalia !

  • @Screamingdk How about some old white folks who know weir it all came from,,, The South.

  • anyone heard - "Fannie Mae" by Buster Brown?

    It's killer, too

  • this is thee bomb...the best version ever.

  • @gabriel999red there is still great music out there brother just not on fm or the main stream , you can purchase sirius radio either for your car or online , they've got some great channels ! check it out if you can take care and God bless

  • We learn something every day. I never knew anyone else did this song but Canned Heat. Sorry to say I never heard of Wilbert Harrison until 10 years ago or so, watching a commercial for a greatest hits CD collection. Showed a brief film clip of him doing Kansas City. I lived for music back in my teens & thought I kept up with all of it. But not even a fraction.

  • man i just heard this on sirius deep tracks , wow i love it thanks for posting . . .

  • i still listen to this on my 8 track , yes it still works and when it breaks i can fix it un like these things now, i also have some stuff you wont find on here , why i dont know but , it aint here , my 8 track kicks ass

  • @ HAAKIE 48... FYI...Bob Hite's brother Richard told me that Bob had held back release of the Canned Heat version of this song so that Wilbert Harrison had a chance to have a hit with it first....just a little additional info to back up your post.

  • This is the most amazing, mind-boggling and mood-lifting song I have ever heard. I can't listen to it enough! He is just outta this world. No other version would even come close to competing with this version by Wilbert Harrison.

  • Anybody notice how "Swingin'" is almost identical to this song?

  • @flomurdock I heard swining the other day and thought of the mighty ducks two when they had this song in it. I then came to ole trusty youtube and was right haha Im glad someone else noticed it also.

  • This is quite possibly the best thing I have heard

  • check out Ry Cooder's VERSION :)

  • I am about to go drink a 40 next to his grave right now. No joke.

  • qe buena cancion

  • I have this 45 but my label is black but its a SUE record

  • @lexmarks567 My 45 of this is on Sue also--and it's orange!

  • wow-great post.

  • That's "sang". Not sand...geezzz I hate when I do that.

  • And Yes....he played as a one man band that night. Percussion with his feet. Guitar. Sand and played harminica. We were just 15 then, and started laughing when we first saw him, but he turned out to be really good. Booker T and The MG's played next, and then CCR. We thought we were Hippies.

  • @lillback1 Wow, how fun!!!! When was that?

  • I saw this guy at Cleveland Public Hall in the 1960's. He played opener to Credence Clearwater.

  • My elementery class is going to make a video for this song, hopefull mister strout will let me put it on my account

  • Canned Heat's Bob "The Bear" Hite in respect for Wilbert told Liberty Records to wait for CANNED HEAT'S Release of "LET'S WORK TOGETHER" to allow Wilbert's Single to be out for 8 Months.(Official Canned Heat Webmaster)

  • i believe he played this as a one man band.

  • Further to my comment below, I would say Canned Heats version is very good, Brian Ferrys' equally good but this, Wilberts original version, is in a league of it's own and is the best. It is fucking brilliant... and I can't over emphasise the expletive!!!

  • notable, la version original de Wilbert tiene la misma fuerza y frescura que el cover de Canned Heat, tenía la sospecha que no era de Canned, es una de mis preferidas, ordena los atomos de mi alma

  • canned heats version is better becuase it has more grittiness to it. this version is too clean cut

  • @Abrohill estoy de acuerdo contigo esta version original es excelente sin restarle meritos a la que harian luego canned heat y felitaciones de que te guste esta clase de musica

  • Just heard got a 45 of this and heard it for the first time. A "holy shit" record

  • Great.

  • Wow, thanks, I had thought that Canned Heat wrote this, but know I know it was Wilbert. Great stuff!

  • This is brilliant !!

  • Wow! Was a little young when this came out and missed it--until now. Would love to know who's blowing the great harp on this.

  • probably him ,as it is a...one man band ?

  • Good!

  • One man band!!This is AWESOME!! I reckon this is original lets work together.I cant believe my ears.WOW!!!Better than CH and Ferry.K T Tunstall has a exellent version too. Thanks hank

  • Thanks for posting this. I have always loved this song and remember when it charted in 1969-1970. I have not heard this version in almost 40 years and love it! Canned Heat did it really well but this one rocks - Thanks so much man.

  • The Canned Heat version made me go out and check out the Wilbert Harrison original.

  • @RealOmind Check out Bryan Ferry's version.

  • brilliant!

  • I saw him in concert in 1970 at the Sam Houston Coliseum. He was outfitted as a one-man band and played this song among his other hits. My friends and I sat directly behind the stage, overlooking it, as a matter of fact. He and Booker T. and the MGs were on the bill with Creedence Clearwater Revival. We were in our early teens.

  • To many people never went past canned heat version but agreed is great interesting roxy are closer than canned heat

  • im suprised no one commented on this yet, its an amazing song, glad you posted thank you
