  • This is adorable! I've been looking to get a Pionus for a long time, but I'm very hesitant of breeders. Could you tell me where you got yours? They're very beautiful and seem to be sweet and gentel :-) thanks!

  • too cute! Ive never seen a pionus lay on his back like that. Very adorable birds you have.

  • @gritessa Thank you! They bring a lot of joy.

  • haha they look like little dinosaurs when they do that. my parakeet makes dinosaur-like expressions all the time; it's hilarious.

  • GET AWAY!! My stick

  • THIS IS TOO FUNNY!! ON HIS BACK

  • anyone know why i cant find these birds for sale in the uk? ive been looking a while but no luck so far the odd one available is like miles and miles away. i had to sell our much adored large muloccun cockatoo as he was way too dificult to care for and so loud thats its hard to describe. i want to get a pair, blue head and bronz winged. would they still be tame ? i guess two males will fight? i understand they are quiet? any pointers much appreciated, thnks

  • Can parrots have sugar cane? It seems a lot more edible than wood, actually.

  • @HopesCharm - Honestly, I have no idea. It doesn't seem as though they actually eat any wood. They just enjoy breaking it up. But, I would think if the sugar cane is natural and hasn't been treated with insecticides, it could be fine. Anyway, sounds like a yummy treat!

  • @peterfliao They actually sell sugar cane at my local pet store in the bird section!

  • i am getting a macaw and they like to chew on sticks do you know why and could it be any kind of wood

  • @HorseRidingIsOurLife Lucky you! A macaw!! They probably like to chew stuff to keep their beaks from growing too much. It might also be related to some activity they do in the wild. If you want to give your macaw something to chew, find wood that has not been painted or treated in any way. I've also heard that you can give a bird a branch from a fruit tree, like apple or cherry. But make sure it hasn't been sprayed with insecticides or has bugs or parasites living in it!

  • i already look in my area but i cant find one. idk everytime i get near her she raises her back tail and makes a weird noise and she put an egg a coupke of days ago

  • @westcoastpoppers Yep, she's horny! It's so cool that she laid an egg!! I can only suggest that you be patient. Pionus parrots are fairly common these days. One is bound to turn up in your area.

  • i have a pio nus envy female and she wants to get laid. but i cant find a male are u selling some of your birds?

  • I'm afraid no one is for sale. I'm sure you'll find a mate for her in your area. Have you bonded with your female? If so, she may not even want another bird to mate with. Just you... :-0

  • DNA testing gives you 98% certainty on the sex of your birds...although there have been cases where a DNA tested male has layed an egg! ^_^

  • i wish my pionus did that!

  • This video made me go get my blue headed! Now shes sitting with me while I watch more pionus videos :)

  • I just luv how ur bronze wing pionus lays in your lap just like a little dog.

  • lmaoo i love it

  • hey are pionus good first pet birds and are they quie? ive been wanting one!

  • They are great first birds. And, they are known to be somewhat quiet, so they make great pets if you live in an apartment. Pionus parrots may not be great talkers, but you'll have a friend for life!

  • Just curious, did you handfeed your Pionus, or did the breeder?

  • The blue headed one was weened when we got him. He was already 5 months old. When we got the bronze wing, they had been hand feeding her when we got her. But, she wouldn't take the food from us. At first, we thought there was something wrong. Then, we realized she was ready to eat on her own. She was 3 months old at the time. So basically, no, we did not hand feed either of them.

  • It's not a deffinate plan but sometimes you can tell the sex by feeling the pelvic bones. If the split is far enough apart to lay an egg it is probably female. If the split is very small (very little space between) then it is probably a male.

  • That sounds like a reasonable way to tell the sexes apart. I'll check out my birds to see if I can feel a difference in their pelvic bones. Thanks for the info!

  • How do you know what sex is?

  • I don't really know the sex of either bird. I am just predicting their sexes based on their size, behavior and past experience with other birds whose sex I knew.

  • Hello!!!,,,I need a male Pionus, for breed,if some one now about one White Capped,Bronze Wing or Blue Head, please let me know,,,Thank You

  • Stop criticizing, because i missed one letter?,,,Look at your face with your mole, that's because maybe your pillow is so crusty,,,you look so,so,so ugly, you imbred b--ch,,,and also get your teeth whitened lol = D

  • ha ha. I'm sorry peterflio, your birds are beautiful, and I didn't mean to start a fight on your video. So apart from that, how many pionus do you have?

  • Comment removed

  • They are so cute! I didn't know Pionus liked to play on their backs. I've been researching them a lot and plan on getting a Blue Head Pionus later this year. It's funny you named yours Jem, Dill and Scout because I was planning on naming mine Atticus if it's a boy and Scout if it's a girl!

  • Dill, the Blue Head, doesn't like to play on his back at all. Jem is the first pionus parrot I've owned that does.

Atticus is a fine name! I used to have a female White Capped named Scout. She was a dear.

From my experience with Dill, Blue Heads seem really gentle and sweet. Good luck with your search for Atticus/Scout!

  • I had my blue-headed pionus named pepe, and he loved to sing, but sadly he passed away, and it was the most saddest tragedy of my life...but I wish I can have another parrot like him.

  • I have a blue headed Pionus named Huxley and have been thinking about getting a second one in the near future. Was it hard to introduce them to one another? Are they house in separate cages? Any advice you'd have to offer would be fantastic!

  • I got the 2 birds about a year apart from eachother. The blue headed was first and is more submissive, in general. So, the introduction of the bronze wing was easy. Though I had a second cage for her, I didn't need it. Spent their first night together in the same cage without a problem. It's probably different with each pair of birds. They're all distinct individuals. You should have a second cage for the new bird and place it near the first bird. See how they interact & take it from there.

  • Can they talk???

  • Unfortunately, no. Too bad, because people ask all the time. I know that some pionus parrots can talk, but not these 2. They make up for it in sweetness and loyalty, though.

  • Haha the BH bird told the other one off...just his little head moved and snipped at the other bird...agh!!! hahaha so funny

  • i might have to sell my BH pionus. He also squawks for attention and one of my dogs has taken to hiding in the basement because of it. The dog is with me for 6 years, the pionus for 6 months. The dog wins. Any suggestions? I can't give the pionus any more attention then I am short of wearing him around my neck, lol.

  • I think this time wins the love and if the dog gifts regálaselo want someone to like you want, and with the Pionus Give it to a zoo or a foundation that protects and rioja rioja take good care

  • look at him just laying on his back and still kept his stick without having to get up!

  • Great Video,

Hugs, Max, Abby, and Rusty Pionus Parrots.

  • Great fun, It's like he is saying MINE.Thanks for the video

  • we have a young bronze wing, any one have any suggestions for a companion pionus? would another bronze wing be the best idea?

we also have multiple other birds who get along with each other, but they pick on the bronze wing.....

  • The old saying about 'birds of a feather...' might be the way to go. I'd get another bronze wing as a companion. Any pionus breed may do, but the chance of 2 bronze wings bonding would be better.

  • Amazing, I'd love for my maximillians to simply get along.

  • Beautiful! Hugs from Rusty,Max,and Abby Pionus Parrots

  • A very beautiful pair of Pionus....

LOL! I think ya might want to have a few more chew toys ready for when the BH wants to join in....

cuz the poor BW sure didn't like havin its feet nibbled!

  • Great video! It's so sweet that your pis will play together!

  • duthboy

    hi ,can those bird talk

  • Any talking comes from me and richard. Pionus parrots are generally not good talkers. I've had one that could speak a few words. And, I see some pionus parrots on YouTube that can speak a bit. But, mine are not among them. Love 'em anyway.

  • are they really loud?

  • They can be squawkers sometimes. The squawking is loud, but not ear shattering. Usually it means they want more food, attention or both. But, in general they're fairly quiet.

  • No, wait. I lied. The blue headed pionus, Dill, can be really loud and annoying, squawking repeatedly until I wave my hands. Then, he'll stop for a bit and start up again, just as loud as before. I still think it's for attention, though. Not that he doesn't get enough. Maybe, too much? ;-)

  • Very cute =) Your Pionus are in perfect condition - great job!

  • From someone who obviously knows how to raise parrots (seen all the baby videos), that's quite nice to hear. Thanks!

  • So cute!

  • That is adorable!! Our little BWP makes the same cute sounds. I call it his Prehistoric Chicken immitation!

  • Thanks! Prehistoric Chicken? I love that. Now, I'm going to think of that every time I hear that sound.

  • Hey!! I know you NDM! hehehe

I LOVE that sound they make as babies...SO cute! lol
