THE UGLY ONE?! Fuck you whoever said that. You will never mesure up to Freddie. It may have been a joke, but I find it offensive. Freddie was a gorgeous human being.
@rockit1123 better have been a joke because compared to Queen, Status quo are just a shit bucket. Queen, on the other hand, and specifically Freddie Mercury, are LEGENDARY.
Brian hit the nail on the head about his own playing: he is the master of melodic construction, singable solos that fit the songs perfectly without being unnecessary showcases for technical skill (which he has plenty of anyway).
Innuendo is a fantastic album, and a great one to cap a wonderous career. A shame though,I'm sure with age Freddie would have eventually lost some range, but at 45,and ravaged by AIDS,he wasn't even close to losing the magic. I would love to have seen where they went after this sound wise
I see some of the negative comments on this thread and it really makes me wonder do any of them know what Freddie was going through and how sick he was in the making of this album? @ tommymajor that would be an interesting thing to witness my thought is they would still be together and their albums would be so Crazy because they would want to be up with the times but they would never stray from the GREAT "QUEEN" sound like the track Innuendo that is QUEEN New and old together in one song
There's something so evil about some songs and videos in this album... They're scary, they have a kind of dire mood, which makes me shiver each time I think about it... Can't imagine what the guys suffered those days if they recorded such things(
Freddie was so sick when they recorded this...The pics of him are from eariler....He always amazed me with his ability to sing....Give me a shot of volka and lets do it per Freddie..He died when he could not perform....
@CelticReject Just because you dont like that kind of music doesnt mean its horrible. I know people like you, they refuse to listen to anything unlesss its exactly what they want to hear. Open up your mind a little and try to appreciate it. Then if you dont like it, dont listen to it, and don't bother to try to ruin it for other people.
Queen did 5 videos in 1989...unheard of! Greatest of the great. Long live Roger, John and Brian, but someday they will all be rockin in heaven together. Completely amazing and no one compares!!
@TheSweetpch sorry.. but there is no heaven.... like there is no father christmas. One day, they will all be buried, to rot to a dust, or burnt. Either way their atoms will eventually return to the Earth, and from them future life will be born, and use their atoms a sustenance. Such is the circle of life. No need for Deities on a supernatural plane.
Absolutely, every time i hear Jeff Beck, MY whole view of playing guitar changes drasticaly also. The guy is SO on a different plane then all others concerning his approach to playing guitar.
For what it's worth Brian, your guitar playing has influenced me greatly. No matter how bad I may feel at times, I can hear that mind blowing harmonic delay effect guitar of yours and feel instantly better. It's medicine for the soul.
@tommymajor2003 That's questionable. Freddie always said that he would be with Queen as long as he thought there was more to it. He was always in step with trends but still somewhat unique. So I REALLY hate to say, because I really love queen, but I think that Queen would be no more if freddie were still alive because Freddie would opt for solo projects that would be more in step with todays music.
@beatlegreg07 That was a joke from the Quo guys mate. They were good friends with Queen and Still are good mates with Brian May. Francis Rossi has said that Quo were crap at Live aid but Queen were the best that day.
@BananaSandwich1 Oh, give me a break. How old are you? That was Alan Lancaster from Status Quo, a band that had been around much longer than Queen by that point. He and Freddie were close mates and he was simply making a joke. They were peers, not competitors. They even toured together. I love Queen/Mercury but some of you Freddie obsessives are almost as irrational as the Michael Jacksonites, another lot of naive wankers who have a completely skewed view of reality and their so called hero.
I don't see why people say its "obvious" he is ill. I think he looks better then ever here. The beard makes his face look 10,000 times better then the mustache ever did for one. Secondly he has lost wait, but he doesent look anorexic, looks healthy to me. I wouldn't have known then that he was ill and I'm sure most of you didn't then either. These are the days of our lives- yes its obvious, not headlong though. Not really obvious in slightly mad either, in retrospect yes, but first time? No.
I heard somewhere he has somekind of medical condition, but I've not seen that anywhere else, so it could be just him looking cool as a cucumber x)
Me and my dad both have something though where if we're exposed to bright light, say the sun or light rig at a concert, we get headaches quicker than other people, something to do with the lenses in our eyes, so that may be it? I really don't know x) If it was that, he could've just kept it as a trademark or something =]
@BggProductions Roger´s eyes are very sensitive to the light, because they are too light and vulnerable. So, he basically feels more protected with sunglasses on.
In watching this video again and after many of Queens previous videos, Freddie and the rest of the band looks 'happy'. There are lots of smiling and look like they were having a really good time together. Despite the late stage of Freddie's illness, which is apparent here.
@GaGaforQueen I think it was Brian who said that they were closer in the last few years than they ever had been. It really was like a marriage. They couldn't cure Freddie, but they did give him the one thing he needed most - the opportunity to continue doing what he loved and the chance to keep his mind off the illness as much as possible. IMO, this "gift" that they gave him allowed him to live one, possibly two years longer than he would have otherwise.
@TheClassica87 well said. I think that 'gift' is so important in everyone's life and it doesn't cost money, you cannot buy it. Supportive friends and family, there is no substitute. Thanks for the insight.
@foxyroxy2005 It's fully visible he's really ill, but he still looked like he had energy at this time. Hard to think he was gone about a year later :'(
@TheDarkFrontier Totally agree. Maybe it could sound weird but Innuendo resembles Bohemian rhapsody to me. It's colourful, I mean throughout that six minutes it's not the same (no distincted parts and refrain), which I like. I hope you understand my jungle-english :D
@Chalexim I see what you're saying, but I'm still going with Innuendo as really their last. Made In Heaven was a collection of remasters and previously unreleased material, released a full 4 years after Freddie's death. (Some of the songs even as old as the mid 1980s.)
