Buddha didn't meditate under a tree for six years - he realized his goal of reaching enlightenment under a tree after a six year period. Many of those years were spent as a wandering aescetic, a path which he turned away from. The meditation under the tree was a few days at most.
Now whilst Siddartha went to amazing extremes during his ascetic times his body DID show signs of utter wear and tear, and he did not hide this (it was part of the teaching). I personally am extremely skeptical of this boy, considering the number of people who were going out of their way to make sure you couldn't get close to him.

Buddhism makes sense, this doesn't.
