I am tired of the Batman 1989 fans. There isn't even a comparison. This movie is on a whole different level, and just because it doesn't have the Gothic atmosphere and it has massive popularity doesn't mean it's overrated. Some things can actually achieve the set hype level, although they are really rare. Though it strives for a realistic atmosphere, it explores the true nature of the Batman mythology, more-so than any other medium up to that point. Arkham City since than has tried to do so.
"The story telling rhythm isn't exactly secure." ... ha ha, listen to these bought off lame ass critics... this comment is a little understated don't you think. The Dark Knight was a total mess of a movie when it came to just about every aspect, an absolute overhyped piece of crap.
@loafpork I so tthe movie was good but it didnt realy feel like Batman to me. Yes the joker stoled the show the acting was great on his part. But Batman ! didnt look or feel like batman should be. And im not hatting but this movie was overhyped and could have been way better! they ruined it!. Since when batman has a Tank!? They could have made it more like the comic look instead of its own directors decision. and the city looks like NewYork and chiacago ! weres gothem . looks to american like
@gm565val LOL what? Batman IS an American hero. If you want more "comic book," go watch Batman and Robin for all the colorful costumes and one liners. We adults will stick to the grit.
I like how Gordon is always out of breathe. This movie is incredibly overrated which im convinced is due to Ledger dying. The movie is just not creative at all.
LOL at all the talk about The Dark Knight being good but not better than Godfather or Citizen Kane who gives a crap I liked it better than both Godfather and Citizen Kane (which was boring) Godfather source material was no way near as appealing as The Dark Knight source material. Both were great books/comics but Michael Corleone was really the only interesting character in the Godfather the Don is cool but it's been done before and is easily conceived.
this IS a good movie HOWEVER, it is NOT a masterpiece by any means. heaths performance is NOT oscar worthy and no his ghost isn't gonna haunt me because I said that. this was a fun film, but in my honest opinion, batman begins felt like a better batman movie.
@EclipseHedgehog im ok with ur opion but the joker alone makes this movie more better because well this is fy bar the best potray of joker and the ebst portray of batman so farand the orgin was awesome but this brought more action more drama in alot of movies the good guy ends up with the girl in this he must deal with the pain that the girl died and she did not choose him so begins is better then all the other batman moves by shumocker but the dark knight set bat as the king of comic movies
@EclipseHedgehog You're absolutely right. TDK is basically Heat with batman and the joker in it. He doesnt do much detective work, the city looks too much like Chicago, which it is of course. Begins does feel more like a batman movie and I like it a lot more than TDK. Its more interesting visually with the narrows and I just thought the story was better.
@trenken I didn't like batmans fighting style in dark knight, too much double jabbing and elbowing, no kicks, ect. in begins as hard as it was to watch the fight scenes I could see batman throw some kicks here and there. not to mention his use of gadgets ("back up" being my favorite) and btw, tumbler>batpod.
@EclipseHedgehog batman begins was a great movie, but i feel like your not giving the dark knight the same credit it deserves. It was a great, well-rounded, movie with very little to critisize. Ledger honeslty acted out joker to the best of anybodies (and his own) ability. What more could you ask for in that type of character? He made it seem like he was born crazy and he actuelly was the joker. Even if his claimed oscar was somewhat motivated by his death, he still played an amazing role in DK.
I can not understand why anyone enjoys this movie. I think this is the worst sequel I have ever seen! Ledger does horribly as Joker! The entire film is terrible!
@liltunechi4eva there wasnt anything remotely wrong with it, there just wasn't anything right about it either. it was just kinda made without the intent to be anything special. batman and robin was an overly bloated piece of propaganda. the only reason it doesn't get a 0/4 is because i only give it to films that truly deserve it.
@dlitner5 well both batman forever and batman and robin were made mainly for kids, but still both pretty bad, joel schumacher is a horrible director when it comes to batman, christopher nolan is like a gift from god
@liltunechi4eva that is because nolan understands that comic book universes are not supposed to look like cartoons. they are meant to look exactly like our world with ordinary people. the genius of nolan is that he never does anything over-the-top with batman. no gadgets and no robin. everything is authentic. even the villans are treated as real people. Ra's Al Ghul had no lazarus pit in Batman Begins, Crane was a brilliant doctor, even the Joker was just someone who saw the world differently.
arkem's joker is great but its not him that challenges u. he's not much of an adversary. following him around is easy its all the other charactors around him that make him great, like the scarcrow.croc.ivy and riddlers challenges. w/o them he wouldnt feel like a worthy villian
Ledger mastered the role and no1 can say he didnt .if DDL coulda been a better joker than they would have cast him as joker but they didnt. most actors would have memiced other versions of joker and he made it his own. the right touch of psyco but underneath the psyco is a mastermind. method to his madness.every1 said no way jack N could ever be toped and blew jacks portrial away.
I hated the movie. It was nothing alike to what I have expected. Even the joker is not as I have hoped him to be. The joker from arkham asylum was the only one I truly liked (Not that I dislike batman).
@CommanderKevinPan that is exactly what i was thinking.. the joker knew that a devil lies within every1 and he just want to show that to the world ..and that ship scene was just amazing.. it proved how there is still goodness in every1 ..this movie is so good and has so many meanings !!
@CommanderKevinPan They portray villains as villains should be portrayed... misunderstood. Everyone has a different point of view on life, some declared more sane than others. I don't there are many who just want to be bad just to be bad. So when a movie reveals and obvious, "I'm bad" villain than I know the movie is cheesy.
Though it's not my favorite Batman film, this is still a great film with an amazing main villain. Heath Ledger was at the top of his game here, a shame he had to leave us prematurely.
I'd say that this movie is excellent, It has a good storyline, great actors, but it lacks what the Joker should be. The Joker should be exactly what it says on the tin, almost everything he does should be based on humor. I think Arkham Asylum portreys the Joker as I prefer him.
LOL. Everyone got upset that TDK didn't get nominated for Best Picture. So, the Academy upped the amount of nominees they have to 10. LOL. But, no one gave a shit when such masterpieces as T2 weren't nominated.
A brilliant masterpiece of filmmaking! Christopher Nolan is now one of my new fave directors and he proves to be a genius thanks to his Batman reboot, Memento and Insomenia.
@Yamcha67 uhh dude, there are quite a few actors that can be better jokers. Daniel Day Lewis. Now heath ledger is a excellent actor. but there are people who could have played the joker better. not a lot of epople but Daniel day lewis could have palyed it way better.
Ledger as joker made this movie one of my favorite movies of all time. This joker was 10 times better than the previous joker in the past batman movie
it really is the worlds coolest motorcycle. and christopher nolan is pretty young considering how many movies hes made. i think hell make plenty of more masterpieces and will be remembered as one of the great movie directors of our time
@riptorna556 Yeah, the Dark Knight is overrated in every comprehensible way. True Batman fans don't think this is the best Batman movie ever created. Only raving fanboys would say something that ignorant.
@corvettecrazy262 u know though i honestly think that batman 1989 is the best... but as a batman fan i would probally consider batman beyond: return of the joker best even know its not live action... but lets just face not all these films are accurate... as the animated ones are the most accurate if u ask me...
@riptorna556 Batman 1989 is my favorite batman live action film too. The animated series is great too, and it's what got me into Batman when I was a kid.
@corvettecrazy262 I would consider myself one of the biggest Batman fans in the world. Full on collector. I know everything about Batman.
The Dark Knight is the only film to get Batman RIGHT.
Aside from the great animated series. I don't like raving fanboys as you call them who COMPLAIN about this movie or Batman Begins because "Joker doesn't have scars!" or "Two Face doesn't die!"
When a filmmaker makes his version of Batman it's like an artist making his comic version. This one is great!
@CastorGrayson11 Really? Cause the only thing The Dark Knight had right is that Batman hates taking a person's life, and the names of the main characters. THAT'S ABOUT IT.
@corvettecrazy262 NO. this was Nolan's version, not a by the book adaptation! IT'S CALLED ADAPTATION, NOT IMITATION. If everyone thought like one there wouldnt be a single batman movie that was right. In the 1989 version Joker killed bruce's parents and in Returns selina kyle became catwoman because she fell of a building and cats started to eat her fingers...seriously?? is that right?? no...do I think TDK is the best batman movie? No, I prefer Begins and I love the 1989 version
@brunobb1 Batman Begins is my second favorite live action Batman film behind the 1989 version. I don't really care for Returns. Forever is decent, but I can't stand the gay innuendos in it. Batman and Robin... Terrible. The Dark Knight is about as good as Batman Returns to me, I don't like either. I remember watching the Animated Series when I was growing up and it was great. Way up there with the best of the movies.
@cr33pyGamer Maybe if he looked more like the comic book Joker I wouldn't have a problem. The Joker doesn't wear makeup. He has white skin. Period. Nolan could have worked that in there and still kept things realistic. People do bleach their skin, you know.
@Sotnas actually he has worn make-up in some of the comics, but i see what you're saying. but think about it- imagine joker's skin bleached in dark knight, that wouldn't have looked NEARLY as gritty and creepy as make-up did.
@cr33pyGamer I would have been okay if it was ambiguous like in A Death in the Family. If you read that graphic novel there are parts where you're not really sure if it's makeup or his own skin color.
The only thing that rather dissapointed me be plotwise about the Dark Knight was that Harvey Dent's transition into and time spent as Two-Face seemed rushed and not developed enough. I would have liked to have seen more Two-face in the movie.
@LordMalice6d9 I too wish the movie was about 10 minutes longer. I felt Two Face was a little rushed. Still a great character arc though. Such a great film.
@DeathWingProductions art? lol =, it was a good movie and all, but lol a superhero movie that has 1000000 explosions is not art. its commercial filmmaking at its best though.
@malows1234 It was more than just explosions. It was a morality tale, and in a way, it was a rich crime film. Plus, this film also had some of the best actors giving some great performances. And any film can have explosions, but this film relied mostly on stuntwork and actual sets and locations, rather than just blue screens and computers (Avatar). It was a great film. Not Godfather level, but it was a masterpiece.
@malows1234 Of course it isn't the greatest movie ever, a title that already belongs to Citizen Kane. But it definitely has a good chance of making the top 200 imo.
@malows1234 dotn eb a hater it could ebat out alot of movies maybe even the top 20 (i think it did i have to llok it up again) but so far the only comic book movie to even dare be called a equal to dark night is cap america the only other movie would be avengers that had a chance but thier still is the new supeman and the green lantern sequel and the flash and wonder woman so keep ur ears open man but i taotly agree dark knight is my fav comic book movie but its not my fav or any else fav film
I didnt like this movie's plot. It was too confusing and not to the point. I lost interest in it halfway through. They were really cheap with the Joker scenes and it just didnt feel like Batman. The movie also came off very pretencious and assuming. I dont know why people praise this movie so much. I didnt really give a shit about Two Face. The only thing I liked about it was Heath Ledger, which he got cheated with scenes. More magic trick scenes would have been a welcome addition.

I totally agree that this movie is flawed. It's a long film. The pacing is terriible. The colour palette throughout the film gets wearing. The tension overly drawn out without enough relief. All adding to the feeling of it just being too damn long. Didn't like how Two Face looked either. I really liked Batman Begins too which makes it worse!
Has anyone on here who likes this movie seen Sam Raimi's Darkman? A much, much cooler movie I think!
keyjock91 Well I am the type to watch movies I like again and again. So maybe it's time I gave this another look see. Been thinking about that lately. Who bad commented me lol? No worries, just that for me pacing a movie and it not feeling like it's wearing to watch is paramount. But we all have different tastes - be kinda boring otherwise ;)
well i guess it would, be boring if everyone has the same taste. But we can all agree some movies are just bad (DragonBall Evolution) and The Dark Knight is not one of them.

Truth be told that the hype of it being a batman movie sold the tickets for it and not the film here. I laugh at this idiot critic who says the villains are menacing, what a farse i can find at least 100 movies within the past 2 years where the villains were more menancing and believable. If anything this movie half assed everything from the action scenese, violence, and the Christian Bale's superhero abilities.
good movie!! and we seem to have a lot of very evil psycho villains in movies these days and they seem to be garnering oscars as well, first anton chigurh, then joker, and now it looks like hans landa is going to get supporting actor as well. but why does everyone find these villains so terifying and so evil? because i personally wasnt affected by them at all.
@kzundiverus Btw Heath Ledger was brilliant, he played the best villain ever. He took on a completely different personality & really trained for this role. This movie is famous because of Heath.
As we begin to enter into a new year old habbits needs to be left behind. Across the world violence, hunger, and s.t.d's are at an all time high. Please watch and subscribe to SPREAD THE WORD videos as we set out on a journey to change the world one good deed at a time. SEARCH SPREADTHEWORD2010
Anton Chigurh is more disturbing than the Joker here. Don't get me wrong Ledger's Joker is one of the best villain ever from superhero movies but Anton Chigurh is THE best villain in cinema history.
Dude... Hannibal Lecter! He was truly the most terrifying person in cinema. Anton's sense of presence + The Joker's sense of control. You can't argue with the results.
Agreed that Hannibal Lecter is perhaps the most infamous villain in cinema history but I think the subsequent films have damaged that reputation. But the thing is with Anton nobody is safe but with Lecter at least if u r sensible he won't harm you, lol.
Nolan's series is better than every batman comic and old flim combined

@Yamcha67: im glad tim burton didnt get to direct it. depp would be joker. with burton its ALWAYS depp -.-
vargmo 11 months ago
@Yamcha67 uhh dude, there are quite a few actors that can be better jokers. Daniel Day Lewis. Now heath ledger is a excellent actor. but there are people who could have played the joker better. not a lot of epople but Daniel day lewis could have palyed it way better.
malows1234 11 months ago
@malows1234 I think the world would implode from the sheer awesomeness of DDL playing the Joker in this movie.

@riptorna556 you have no taste in movies whats so ever
K1asH3r 1 year ago
@riptorna556 Yeah, the Dark Knight is overrated in every comprehensible way. True Batman fans don't think this is the best Batman movie ever created. Only raving fanboys would say something that ignorant.
corvettecrazy262 1 year ago
@corvettecrazy262 u know though i honestly think that batman 1989 is the best... but as a batman fan i would probally consider batman beyond: return of the joker best even know its not live action... but lets just face not all these films are accurate... as the animated ones are the most accurate if u ask me...
riptorna556 1 year ago
@riptorna556 Batman 1989 is my favorite batman live action film too. The animated series is great too, and it's what got me into Batman when I was a kid.
corvettecrazy262 1 year ago
@corvettecrazy262 I would consider myself one of the biggest Batman fans in the world. Full on collector. I know everything about Batman.
The Dark Knight is the only film to get Batman RIGHT.
Aside from the great animated series. I don't like raving fanboys as you call them who COMPLAIN about this movie or Batman Begins because "Joker doesn't have scars!" or "Two Face doesn't die!"
When a filmmaker makes his version of Batman it's like an artist making his comic version. This one is great!
CastorGrayson11 1 year ago
@CastorGrayson11 Really? Cause the only thing The Dark Knight had right is that Batman hates taking a person's life, and the names of the main characters. THAT'S ABOUT IT.
corvettecrazy262 1 year ago
@corvettecrazy262 NO. this was Nolan's version, not a by the book adaptation! IT'S CALLED ADAPTATION, NOT IMITATION. If everyone thought like one there wouldnt be a single batman movie that was right. In the 1989 version Joker killed bruce's parents and in Returns selina kyle became catwoman because she fell of a building and cats started to eat her fingers...seriously?? is that right?? no...do I think TDK is the best batman movie? No, I prefer Begins and I love the 1989 version
brunobb1 1 year ago
@brunobb1 Batman Begins is my second favorite live action Batman film behind the 1989 version. I don't really care for Returns. Forever is decent, but I can't stand the gay innuendos in it. Batman and Robin... Terrible. The Dark Knight is about as good as Batman Returns to me, I don't like either. I remember watching the Animated Series when I was growing up and it was great. Way up there with the best of the movies.

The 1989 version?(lol)

@cr33pyGamer Maybe if he looked more like the comic book Joker I wouldn't have a problem. The Joker doesn't wear makeup. He has white skin. Period. Nolan could have worked that in there and still kept things realistic. People do bleach their skin, you know.
Sotnas 1 year ago
@Sotnas actually he has worn make-up in some of the comics, but i see what you're saying. but think about it- imagine joker's skin bleached in dark knight, that wouldn't have looked NEARLY as gritty and creepy as make-up did.
cr33pyGamer 1 year ago
@cr33pyGamer I would have been okay if it was ambiguous like in A Death in the Family. If you read that graphic novel there are parts where you're not really sure if it's makeup or his own skin color.
Sotnas 1 year ago
@corvettecrazy262 just stop talking lil kiddo

The only thing that rather dissapointed me be plotwise about the Dark Knight was that Harvey Dent's transition into and time spent as Two-Face seemed rushed and not developed enough. I would have liked to have seen more Two-face in the movie.
LordMalice6d9 1 year ago 2
@LordMalice6d9 I too wish the movie was about 10 minutes longer. I felt Two Face was a little rushed. Still a great character arc though. Such a great film.

@DeathWingProductions The rating system in the Chicago Tribune though is 1-4. So 4 stars here yes! and 5 stars otherwise! :D
moviebuffreviews 7 months ago
@DeathWingProductions art? lol =, it was a good movie and all, but lol a superhero movie that has 1000000 explosions is not art. its commercial filmmaking at its best though.
malows1234 7 months ago
@malows1234 It was more than just explosions. It was a morality tale, and in a way, it was a rich crime film. Plus, this film also had some of the best actors giving some great performances. And any film can have explosions, but this film relied mostly on stuntwork and actual sets and locations, rather than just blue screens and computers (Avatar). It was a great film. Not Godfather level, but it was a masterpiece.
burrowsshreds 7 months ago
@burrowsshreds agreed, it was good, but i dont want people calling it the greatest movie ever, cause it wouldn't even make the top 200......
malows1234 7 months ago
@malows1234 Of course it isn't the greatest movie ever, a title that already belongs to Citizen Kane. But it definitely has a good chance of making the top 200 imo.
burrowsshreds 7 months ago
@malows1234 dotn eb a hater it could ebat out alot of movies maybe even the top 20 (i think it did i have to llok it up again) but so far the only comic book movie to even dare be called a equal to dark night is cap america the only other movie would be avengers that had a chance but thier still is the new supeman and the green lantern sequel and the flash and wonder woman so keep ur ears open man but i taotly agree dark knight is my fav comic book movie but its not my fav or any else fav film
turbowarrior11 5 months ago
I didnt like this movie's plot. It was too confusing and not to the point. I lost interest in it halfway through. They were really cheap with the Joker scenes and it just didnt feel like Batman. The movie also came off very pretencious and assuming. I dont know why people praise this movie so much. I didnt really give a shit about Two Face. The only thing I liked about it was Heath Ledger, which he got cheated with scenes. More magic trick scenes would have been a welcome addition.

I agree with Phillips, that they sort of crammed two face into the mix.

A much, much cooler movie I think!
johnjnukemsheridan 1 year ago
@johnjnukemsheridan
Yea it was long,
But The Dark Knight was great, it was worthy to be the sequal of Batman Begins
keyjock91 1 year ago
keyjock91 Well I am the type to watch movies I like again and again. So maybe it's time I gave this another look see. Been thinking about that lately. Who bad commented me lol? No worries, just that for me pacing a movie and it not feeling like it's wearing to watch is paramount. But we all have different tastes - be kinda boring otherwise ;)
johnjnukemsheridan 1 year ago
@johnjnukemsheridan
well i guess it would, be boring if everyone has the same taste.

Gyro911 1 year ago
hype leads to huge opening weekends. a great film gives it legs. Dark Knight had both. Quit your bellyaching.

I didnt like the movie and a lot of people i know didnt either. They just went to see it because it had Batman on the title

good movie!! and we seem to have a lot of very evil psycho villains in movies these days and they seem to be garnering oscars as well, first anton chigurh, then joker, and now it looks like hans landa is going to get supporting actor as well. but why does everyone find these villains so terifying and so evil? because i personally wasnt affected by them at all.

Anton Chigurh is more disturbing than the Joker here. Don't get me wrong Ledger's Joker is one of the best villain ever from superhero movies but Anton Chigurh is THE best villain in cinema history.
ZeeMan84 2 years ago
Dude... Hannibal Lecter! He was truly the most terrifying person in cinema. Anton's sense of presence + The Joker's sense of control. You can't argue with the results.
Liberum69 2 years ago
Agreed that Hannibal Lecter is perhaps the most infamous villain in cinema history but I think the subsequent films have damaged that reputation. But the thing is with Anton nobody is safe but with Lecter at least if u r sensible he won't harm you, lol.

Many times, in the comics, Gotham looked very similar to New York or Chicago.
Believe it or not, many within the comic business were not impressed with Burton's over-the-top take of Gotham in the first two films.
