I did hear a bootleg interview from this era where Paul McCartney was talking about the underground scene in London and he mentioned "the Pink Floyd" as being a terrific new group (or something like that). Didn't see him in this video though.
this is not a full video. search "PINK FLOYD UFO CLUB FEB '67 Nice Res. video" in youtube. Paul is talking about psychedelic, drugs, lsd etc near at the end. he looks very strange in that video with that moustache.
@roryjordanvann Actually Joe Boyd (Producer of Arnold Layne and founder of UFO) stated that he and UFO's kind of left it up in the air what UFO would be decided to mean. In his book; "White Bicycle's: Making Music in the 60's" he says something along these lines.
I never knew footage from this existed, I just have it as a sound file. You can find it with and without the overdub, it's about 5 minutes of the sweetest version of Interstellar Overdrive you'll ever hear. Afterward, Paul McCartney comes on and defends this "new sound" the Pink Floyd is making.
Speaking of which, where's the rest of the damn video! There's about 3 videos of Syd playing live, I need to see this!

Well, I don't live in Britain, so i have no idea what the fuck Tottenham Court Road is, but thank you for the information.
Otherwise, pretty damn similar, long songs full of repetition, lights, technology, warehouses, a new drug scene, hipsters in plastic outfits, etc, etc...
it wasn't a ballroom, it was a function room connected to pub called The Blarney Club, an Irish pub I think run by a great Irishman called Mr. Gannon.
Are there still places like this? It's hard to find any dance club that doesn't play nigger rap..

UFO wasn't an acronym for unidentified flying objects, it stood for Underground Freak Out..

Although I love the pink floyd, it would require the abuse of 3 or more illegal substances for me to keep a straight face and dance like that.

They were even mostly located in abandoned warehouses (which I believe the UFO was), there's a lot of similarities.
