First of all, I want to thank Mr. Paquette for erecting the nice stainless steel monument at the site. I'm sure I speak for all fans of the deceased in saying "thank you." I visited the site several years ago before Paquette's monument was erected. It's a very surreal spot and makes you think of that fateful night.
I made the trek a few days ago, Dec. 18, while on my way from SC to Minnesota for work. It was at dusk, getting cold, . A very moving experience, and I gotta believe other than I 35 in the distance, not too much was different than that day in '59. I couldn't help but think of that small plane shooting across the sky and coming to rest there. Having spent much of my life fascinated by their stories, and seeing the pictures, it truly was surreal to be standing there in that quiet spot. RIP
Great video. I can't believe how remote that site is. It's amazing it didn't take days to find them. (Didn't they find the crash the very next day?) I always pictured it being closer to a main road.
It might be that the plane hit on the side of the fence where the memorial is, then spilled over to the other side of the fence where it came to rest in the 1959 videos.
Good question, I was nearly following the walk path and came across the memorial which I took as the spot. If they died on the other side I do not know. Could very much be the owner on the other side does not want people on his property. I think this site should be purchased and a biggerr memorial should be built to honor these young starts taken to early.
Thank you very much. QUESTION. see the video 'The Plane Crash of 1959-Richie-Buddy-Big bopper". see at 22 sec. and 116 sec. to compare the landscape. You walked a VERY ong way to the spot. The original 1959 film shows 3 clumps of trees at the end- and very close to the impact, just as YOUR video at 4.26 sec shows. This means you are on the opposite side of the fence of where the plane landed up, meaning, Ritchie and Buddy were on the other side of the fence where you stood. Please help.Louis

@qthelost The road in was a dirt gravel road, so I had to drive a couple of miles to get to this point where I started my walk.
