David Sea really sang this song, he made it his own. He didn't try to sing it like any one else. Also Ali woodson had a version of this song he sang on the Whoopi Goldberg show, he also made it his own. He put a little Gospel in it.
The great Tempts Didnt go down after David, Eddie, and Paul left that so-called Classic lineup, it Seems to me that Richard, Dennis, along with Damon/glenn/tyson/louis Price/ and the incomparable Woodson carried on the tradition very well.
@chakazula1 Sure like hell, they went down after the C5 had dissolved into more or less loosely assembled groupings. Even such fantastic singers like Dennis, Ali and Glenn couldn't re-create the magic of the C5. Their hits -- if there were any at all after the psychedelic era -- became fewer and fewer. Nowadays they are nothing but an oldies group (sad but true.)
@DandJRuffin THEY DID HAVE HITS AFTER THE PSYCHEDELIC ERA. DENNIS & ALI DID RECREATE THE MAGIC. BOTH OF THEM ARE JUST AS GOOD AS DAVID RUFFIN & THEY WERE NOT TRYING TO BE HIM. THAT'S WHY I ADMIRE THEM.
that is right, true tempts fan know David's voice, Dennis, louis, Woodson, theo, bo, G.C. Cameron, Paul, Eddie/damon, Richard, glenn and Tyson and Otis, who the hell don't know Melvin, A song don't hae to sound like David sung his song, singers have different voices, the fans seem to like David Sea singing, and Tedkay, you like who you like, but yall are always david this and David that, David was great but he was a loser, wasted talent!
@chakazula1 You are right, each singer has his/her own style. And there are lots of truly gifted and great singers around, covering David Ruffin songs/leads. But it's also true that once David Ruffin had sung a song, any other singer after him just couldn't compete. David Sea, though, is one of the very best singers ever! I bet even Ruff would agree with that statement. And no, David Ruffin isn't a loser. After all, he is well-loved and cherished by his fans almost 20 years after his death.
@DandJRuffin I have to agree with u on David Sea. Out of everyone whom I heard sing this song lead, no one could come close. But David Sea pretty much made this song damn near his own. And not taking nothing else away from the other leads The Temps had, but Mr Sea put a S-T-A-M-P on this song. I am still a big fan of David Ruffin, his voice was truly magical and majestic.
the royaleagle, we all have opinions but to say david is the best ever, based on what? not his solo career, I like David, but was he better than Marvin, teddy, curtis, smokey, lou rawls,Wilson Pickett, jerry Butler,G.C.Cameron, Ben E. King,Rj reynolds, Eugene record, many great singers, Luther, come to many great singers!
See below this is David Sea singing and Dennis backing.David Sea released a solo album in 1991 covering this song with Eddie Kendricks and Dennis taking backing vocals. Was quite a lively vocal from Eddie considering he was struggling with his health at that point.
dennis edwards is a one man show he still sings with the second group of temptations if you haven't seen him in concert look them up but i think he still carries the group
Vocals are by David Sea who` been with Dennis since 1990.He sang background when David Ruffin and Eddie were together with Dennis in 1990 and 1991.Sang all of Paul Williams parts on that tour.He is a well respected singer in his own write with many successful solo albums
Hey! everyone! That ain't Dennis singing, a true tempts fan would know this!! Dennis is doing background on this one. Dennis voice has a much different tone and a much more gritty sound. check out cloud nine, A Song for you and you will hear the difference. This guy sounds like a very weak David Ruffin, like Ruffin on that stuff! he never dragged his notes like this, a lot of whinning and cat calling!! Somebody betta!! tell Him!!
rufin is the best, that is an opinion, but woodson is just as good or better! David was a great showman and singer within the group! no group had as many good front men as the tempts, I have followed this group and all others since 1955, tempts are the baddest, and i love the tops, ojays, impressions, dramantics, blue notes, spinners, ewb, drifters, platters, isley brothers, moonglows, miracles, manhattans, no group is better than any lineup of tempts!
it is all about opinions, however 86pimp3 and rhinoeck103, the group didn!t suffer when the great ruffin left, and eddie too, like otis or not he knows great front men from dennis, louis, woodson, theo, bo, g.c. cameron all these dudes have contributed the great legacy of the tempts, some of you are hating on dennis because the group kept on putting out the hits, this is the greatest group ever, in spite of personel changes!
Dennis Edwards is a legend and one of the all time greats, from the Contours to The Temptations. His Review which features David Sea on this track is as good as it gets.
yes this guy can blow. He sounds like my uncle who sings in church. I love Dennis and
I just discovered Ali, I only remember his treat her like a lady-but today I heard soul to soul, lady soul and a couple more song he led-AND THAT GUY JUST BLEW ME AWAY. these guys can't be beat
Who is this guy singing ? He ROCKS, thats the BEST VERSION I'VE HEARD since Ruffin sang it !...Otis Williams, you better get this guy for your Temptations group.
Is that AliWoodson singing lead. I know it's not Dennis?
