@thanatan86 Thank you for the update, but this video was made prior to the release of the 3g iPhone, so it was accurate at the time. Amazingly, IOS version 3 was released on June 17, 2009 so iPhones have only been able to cut and paste for less than 18 months.

And that seems true, but isn't. The iPhone has less and less room to make these improvements. Many of the features that the Pre has now are something that cannot be implemented on the the iPhone, no mater what. What is really going to matter is how much lattitude the Pre has to implement new features. The iPhone is already far down a well-trodden path. But it will be interesting to see if the Pre is able to improve over time or whether it has limits that will prevent it overtaking the iPhone.

I've been an iPhone user for a while now. I really enjoy the apps and iPod part. The phone part of the iPhone sux. Can't hear it ring half the time and listening to a conversation is even more difficult without the headphones on. Sometimes the vibration works.. sometimes not. Also, I think iPhone made a huge mistake by being AT&T exclusive. Perhaps the sucky phone part is just because they're with AT&T.. I don't know. and then there's the basic cut / paste...

iphone os 3.0 fixes all of that issues, ive been using my 1st gen iphone for 2 years now and i had only 2 problems, im going to get the new iphone that will be released next month with its improved 3.2MP, 16GB standard memory, faster processor, video capture, auto focus, and even more that will make people buy more iphones than it did already
For such a big fan of iPhone you seem to really have lost the plot, 3.0 admittedly improves the functioning, functioning that should have been there 2 years ago, but I seriously doubt that it will make Apple sell more iPhones.

I will give Apple the credit of having such HUGE market share with only one phone on the market. However it has taken them how many upgrades to accomplish(and in some cases not accomplish) what the Pre has done with their first gen webOS software. Competition is great for the consumer because it forces companies such as Apple, and Palm to become more innovative and less stagnant with their devices.
Don't get me wrong I love my iPhone but I do have one complaint, and that is having to cancel out of Pandora every time I want to check my e-mail or respond to a text message. Would be great if they allowed backgrounding for that app like they do the iPod app. Otherwise no other real complaints that haven't been addressed by 3.0!
I sell cell phones for a living (on three different major carriers). I have noticed that many, many people bring back touch-screen-only phones. That is my experience, as well. The touch-screen-only is not as nice as a physical keyboard in DAY TO DAY use. Long before I heard about the Pre, I was a believer in removable batteries...avoiding any product where I couldn't remove the battery.
I'm very much with you on the removable batteries issue. I can't think of any good reason why a battery should not be so.
I own dozens of Palm devices (I can't comment on other touchsreen devices really) and I've noticed that the first thing to break on all of them has been the touchscreen. Sometimes part of the touchscreen stops working, other times it just can't be calibrated and often they just stop working altogether. Keyboards rock.
Yah; He's fighting against the better iPhone. Seriously. Look around; the first gen is still sought after. 3G speeds aren't meeting the hype and the 3G version doesn't have all the hardware the first gen had.
They're both clunkers and more or less run the same software; I don't see a major difference here. What's so great about the 2nd gen that makes it worth your while?
Also will note that this new iPhone will not be in direct competition with the Pre as it was already in the pipeline before the Pre was announced and I believe hardware wise, it will only offer minor improvements to processing speed/power, and perhaps more memory and a larger hd, and nothing that directly targets the Pre. However the great thing about the iPhone is that everything is software based so technically aside from the already announced iPhone 3.0 can be again upgraded at any time.
Haha good stuff, although while the iPhone app store does have a lot of junk (like the lighter and beer apps that are mildly entertaining for 5 minutes and then useless), there are also a lot of very useful apps available. Hopefully Palm will develop a wide user-developer base and have similar applications available after a year or so. Multitasking and physical keyboard > iPhone.
Looking at the big picture Pre beats i(got ripped off)phone by a mile. For me it's all about multi tasking and having contacts and social networks working together. GO PALM PRE!!!!!

I have a Mac and all apple applications so I'll probably stick with my iPhone for now. Especially with the 3.0 OS coming in June. The pre does look pretty sweet though. It'll be interesting to see if other carriers will pick it up once it becomes successful. I'm pretty sure it will. There are a lot of die hard Palm users out there who would love to get their hands on a newer more advanced palm like the Pre. From what I can see the WebOS looks very nice.

AT&T said the Pre's App Store was unproven while they had a whole bunch of crap. When the iPhone first came out it's App Store was also unproven, you can tell how desperate AT&T and Apple are because there if finally something on the market that's going to be a threat to them. I for one will be buying a Pre when my contract is over.

Fucking great point i love the video im getting me a pre and COPY PASTING and Picture mailing all my iphone friends till they throw up, and if my phone freezes i can pop the batterie no apple genius required! FUCK THE IPHONE! Palm Is superior and with 3rd party app support will be the only Phone better then the iphone, the physical keyboard is obviously superior i tried to text on my Ipod touch with a wi fi text app and you cant type words that arnt fucking grammatically correct! I've been an iPhone user for a while now. I really enjoy the apps and iPod part. The phone part of the iPhone sux. Can't hear it ring half the time and listening to a conversation is even more difficult without the headphones on. Sometimes the vibration works.. sometimes not. Also, I think iPhone made a huge mistake by being AT&T exclusive. Perhaps the sucky phone part is just because they're with AT&T.. I don't know. and then there's the basic cut / paste...

Sure.. the first generation is going to have some holes and bugs to fix etc. IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS! How about some copy / paste action? And What's up with the no picture text?? that's half the reason I take a pic on my phone! Let's face it.. the pre has overcome these issues on first release and it's smaller and it has a physical keyboard. I personally can't wait to get a palm pre of my own.

iphone os 3.0 fixes all of that issues, ive been using my 1st gen iphone for 2 years now and i had only 2 problems, im going to get the new iphone that will be released next month with its improved 3.2MP, 16GB standard memory, faster processor, video capture, auto focus, and even more that will make people buy more iphones than it did already

For such a big fan of iPhone you seem to really have lost the plot, 3.0 admittedly improves the functioning, functioning that should have been there 2 years ago, but I seriously doubt that it will make Apple sell more iPhones.
If you haven't noticed already, The single biggest reason why the iPhone sells so well is not because of its funtion (even though it has some very good functions), but because of the fact that it's made by Apple.

I will give Apple the credit of having such HUGE market share with only one phone on the market. However it has taken them how many upgrades to accomplish(and in some cases not accomplish) what the Pre has done with their first gen webOS software. Competition is great for the consumer because it forces companies such as Apple, and Palm to become more innovative and less stagnant with their devices.

Don't get me wrong I love my iPhone but I do have one complaint, and that is having to cancel out of Pandora every time I want to check my e-mail or respond to a text message. Would be great if they allowed backgrounding for that app like they do the iPod app. Otherwise no other real complaints that haven't been addressed by 3.0!

I sell cell phones for a living (on three different major carriers). I have noticed that many, many people bring back touch-screen-only phones. That is my experience, as well. The touch-screen-only is not as nice as a physical keyboard in DAY TO DAY use. Long before I heard about the Pre, I was a believer in removable batteries...avoiding any product where I couldn't remove the battery.

I'm very much with you on the removable batteries issue. I can't think of any good reason why a battery should not be so.
I own dozens of Palm devices (I can't comment on other touchsreen devices really) and I've noticed that the first thing to break on all of them has been the touchscreen. Sometimes part of the touchscreen stops working, other times it just can't be calibrated and often they just stop working altogether. Keyboards rock.

Yah; He's fighting against the better iPhone. Seriously. Look around; the first gen is still sought after. 3G speeds aren't meeting the hype and the 3G version doesn't have all the hardware the first gen had.
They're both clunkers and more or less run the same software; I don't see a major difference here. What's so great about the 2nd gen that makes it worth your while?

Also will note that this new iPhone will not be in direct competition with the Pre as it was already in the pipeline before the Pre was announced and I believe hardware wise, it will only offer minor improvements to processing speed/power, and perhaps more memory and a larger hd, and nothing that directly targets the Pre. However the great thing about the iPhone is that everything is software based so technically aside from the already announced iPhone 3.0 can be again upgraded at any time.

Haha good stuff, although while the iPhone app store does have a lot of junk (like the lighter and beer apps that are mildly entertaining for 5 minutes and then useless), there are also a lot of very useful apps available. Hopefully Palm will develop a wide user-developer base and have similar applications available after a year or so. Multitasking and physical keyboard > iPhone.

I have a Mac and all apple applications so I'll probably stick with my iPhone for now. Especially with the 3.0 OS coming in June. The pre does look pretty sweet though. It'll be interesting to see if other carriers will pick it up once it becomes successful. I'm pretty sure it will. There are a lot of die hard Palm users out there who would love to get their hands on a newer more advanced palm like the Pre. From what I can see the WebOS looks very nice.

AT&T said the Pre's App Store was unproven while they had a whole bunch of crap. When the iPhone first came out it's App Store was also unproven, you can tell how desperate AT&T and Apple are because there if finally something on the market that's going to be a threat to them. I for one will be buying a Pre when my contract is over.

Yeah, well, I did make this video months before the iPhone 3.0 firmware, so I didn't know. But if it took the iPhone until version 3 of its firmware to enable cut and psate, that's quite astonishing. I can't name any other OS or firmware that took that long to have cut and paste. Heck,. even including the OS on 60's mini-computers. And I still haven't actually seen an iPhone running 3.0
