I knew Doug from Middle School on, not closely mind you, and I've never served but I am not in the least suprised to hear the stories of his service. He was the strongest and most fierce person I've probably ever known, but at the same time he'd stand up for those he knew to be good people who weren't as strong as he was. He wasn't perfect, but he sure tried as best he could.
liberated fallujah?!? LIBERATED FALLUJAH?!? IN TO WHAT?!? A PLACE OF CONSTANT WAR, A PLACE OF SUICIDE BOMBINGS?! WHEN BEFORE AMERICANS ARRIVED, IT WAS AN ORDINARY CITY. A PLACE WHERE THEY STARTED A WAR AND RAN OFF AND LEFT THE PEOPLE TO FIGHT EACH OTHER?

My heart swells with pride because I had the honor of growing up with Doug. When I think of Doug, I still see the skinny quiet kid in my 6th grade PE class with the serious brown eyes. In high school, Doug would stand up for the kids who got bullied, and he was always someone you could trust. He was very kind. He was the best athlete/scholar in our senior class, but you would NEVER hear him brag. Doug will always be an inspiration.
Long live the memory of Major Zembiec. My son served under him and gave his life for his brothers in Fallujah. Aaron would've done it all over again. Major Zembiec led from the front. He was an honorable man who came from honorable parents and I thank God that such men have lived. And died. They have kept me free all the days of my life.
I personally know another Major who served with Maj. Zembiec and another who has met his family. There is much more to Doug Zembiec, in addition to his obvious great service and sacrifice to the Corps and his country. I challenge anyone to study his writings and not compare him to the warrior poets of centuries past.
What a crock. Tanks, C130s, F-16s and napalm against civilians and a few fighters armed with bazookas and AK's. All to avenge the killing of a few Blackwater scumbags who deserved to be killed anyway. America must really be short of heroes.
Gimme a break. So they've "improved" naphthalene palmatate by using jet fuel instead of kerosene..and given it a new name. It's still napalm...a sick and cowardly weapon that melts people, women and kids. Is white phosphourous the new napalm? Strange how I read of a US soldier in Iraq saying "the generals love napalm. It's a real morale booster" Sick bastard. As for bazookas..the Iraqi fighters are using Soviet era weapons. Bazookas and RPGs are in the mix. You're the retarded one!
Wow, a weapons expert who gets his wealth of information from Wikipedia much like he does a quick profile search to see where I'm from to throw a few jibes at my country. Well I'm not from Argentina you arsehole. I just put selected that at random. And Marine pilots have ADMITTED using napalm bombs in Iraq. Why don't you investigate it on globalsecurity website. So I called referred to RPGs as bazookas. Big fuckin' deal. They're still no match for aerial drones and gunships.
um....no. when my father first joined the Navy he was a ordnance man. i'm also joining the USMC had had studied a lot of weapons of all sorts for many years.
also again as I said, stop commenting your just making your self sound dumber every time. who the hell shoots a RPG or a Bazooka at aerial drones? there way up high RPG's have a very short range
the closest thing to a Napalm bomb would be the Mark 77 bomb which isn't napalm.
When did I say that anyone fired RPGs at aerial drones? Where did you get that from?
As for you joining the USMC...I'm not going to try and talk you out of it, but I can guarantee you one thing...you'll regret it. After being trounced around Parris Island being taught such charming songs as "what makes the grass grow...blood, blood, blood" they'll ship you off to kill civilians. Don't come crying here when you're having nightmares.
A bomb that kills indiscriminately is banned by the 1949 Geneva Conventions to which the US is a signatory. Not that it means anything since the US violates the Geneva Conventions pretty much every day by illegally invading countries, using collective punishment, assassinating international reporters, covering up war crimes, employing torture, etc, etc. etc. You're right .. a bomb is a bomb and it's designed to kill people, especially civilians.
Geneva Convention? hahahahahahahaha you mean a group of ppl who's country's don't even have a military making rules lol? China has the weapons so does Russia so does Israel how about you go comment of them lol. first of all making rules for war is dumb the only rule should be the treat meant of prisoners, by the way Iraq Violated the Geneva Convention so many damn times. so do a lot of ppl. making a POW talk on Camera is against the Geneva Convention.
Civy's die in ever war. every fucking war ever made ppl die.
by the way Terrorist are not protected by the Geneva Convention only Soldiers are, spy's are also not protected under it.. Russia and china torture ppl far worse then the USA will ever do. don't see the USA going around chopping off ppl's heads
Why are you bringing up China and Russia? We're talking about the US here. The US claim to be this beacon of honesty and justice and fair-play yet use banned weapons against civilians. The Geneva Conventions have nothing to do with Switzerland determining the rules of warfare. These conventions were signed in Geneva by various countries so stop making stupid statements about the Swiss and their military. And for your information the Conventions protect EVERYONE including civilians.
because the weapons you talked about are also used by those country's dummy. also I know what the Geneva Convention is dummy lol. and what does the Swiss army have to do with any of this Topic!!? when was the last time the Switz ever fought.
also I never sad jack shit about Swiss troops, can you not read at all?
So one one hand you say that the US is a fair country that plays by the rules then you claim to not be as bad as the Russians or the Chinese when it comes to torture, warcrimes, etc. Not a very positive recommendation about yourself. "We're not as bad as Stalin. We're not as bad as Mao Tse Tsung". And who exactly were you referring to when you said " group of ppl who's country's don't even have a military making rules lol?" Who is this supposed to be?
man, if a a terrorist needs a little motivation to tell me what building he's planning on blowing up or know of some shit going down then by all means, get the info out of him. Terrorist are not soldiers and have no honor or morals.
why in the hell would are military make rules? are military is Civilian run.
by the way the Washington post is a bunch of BS most the time,
love how you avoided the subject on the Swiss army that i didn't even bring up lol. failing to admit you can't read?
This is a man who served his country and gave the ultimate sacrifice in the interest of his command. He did as ordered and then some. This is not the place to talk politics.
And to underline how ignorant you are and how much of a clueless loudmouth..Switzerland DOES have a military. Nearly 2 million troops available for service after having conducted mandatory training. They are also perhaps the only landlocked country in the world that has a naval capability and there is a bed for every single man woman and child in a nuclear bunker...the ENTIRE population. So don't make cretinous claims out of thin air. You don't know what you're talking about.
You said you were joining the Marines, right? I don't know...the Marines accept some fairly dumb people but you might struggle to qualify. What level of education do you have, numbskull? GED at best? That might qualify you as cannon fodder but I doubt they'd let you near anything that involves any bit of brain power like electronics or making any decision beyond a monkey's ability. Nope it's grunt work for you and that pretty much guarantees tramping around Afghanistan ducking bullets.
the Military does not take GED's dumb shit. they'll only take a GED if you have college credits behind it. and you need 15 college creds with a GED it will count as a high school diploma.
and yes i'm joining the Infantry, most ppl that Join the Marines want action. old saying goes if you want action join the Marines.
Grunts win battles wars, every thing else is support.
Grunts win battle wars. Yeah like Vietnam? You're already on the verge of defeat in Afghanistan (that's why the brass are now talking about negotiations with the Taliban and "peace with honour"...sound familiar?). And FYI the services have dramatically lowered their admission standards because they're desperate for fresh cannon fodder. Guys with criminal records and drug convictions are being admitted. Off you go to war, bonehead. Enjoy trying to wipe your ass when both arms have been blown off.
The Army admitted about one-fourth more recruits last year with a record of legal problems ranging from felony convictions and serious misdemeanors to drug crimes and traffic offenses, as pressure to increase the size of U.S. ground forces led the military to grant more waivers for criminal conduct, according to new data released yesterday.
Such "conduct waivers" for Army recruits rose from 8,129 in fiscal 2006 to 10,258 in fiscal 2007. For Marine Corps recruits, they increased from 16,969 to 17,413.
You were wrong about the use of napalm, you were wrong about the Geneva Conventions. You're wrong about conduct waivers. You're fuckin' wrong about everything buddy, and you have the audacity to throw around your childish "fail" cards. Grow the fuck up and go read some trustworthy news reports
again here is your fail card on making fun of infantry ppl, also I would never make fun of them till you do there type of work. it is by far one of the hardest jobs in the world.
You know something, you're right. You're right about everything you said. You're right about the statements you made about the Geneva Conventions about military recruitment standards, about the US military not using napalm even though pilots admitted to using it. Those guys are liars and you are right and I'm wrong about everything. Please accept my apologies.
As i brit i cannot say how proud of you guys that i am.i lost my friend over there,he was a royal marine and he came home a hero like so many of your marines.Always remember cowards cut and run MARINES never do.I pray evryday that all of you come home safe with our boys and my heart goes everytme i hear a soldier has fallen.British or American but i take comfort knowing hey have been chosen to become one of heavens warriors

wow. way to miss the entire point of the video. Fuck the war, fuck politics, fuck oil, fuck democracy, fuck protesters, fuck the protesters that protest the other protesters. This man did not die to become your political fodder and idealogical platform. Keep your politics for a video where they are relevant to the point at hand. he was a hero in the eyes of the men he lead and saved
I had the pleasure and honor of serving with this man when he was a CO for Echo 2/1. I was a Corporal in Fallujah at the time and he motivated the hell out of me and all of his Marines. I was heart broken to hear of his death on his next tour. An outstanding leader and Marine.
you piece of shit,"who sent them there" he volunteered to go back again, he died so people like you can sleep at night and not have to worry and say stupid shit like what you said. how dare you come here and insult him, marines, the corps, and our country
They are not brainwashed. They serve with Honor. RUL575...you are not worthy to polish their boots. And remember, it is the military who gives you the right to speak like an ass.
I, too, graduated from Annapolis and was a Marine Officer, but I am truly unworthy to wash this man's feet. My heart breaks that such a great American had to go so early.
I served under Maj. Zembiec way back when he was a brand new 1st LT and i was a PFC-LCpl in Bravo 1/6 he was a great leader and every man in our Plt followed him with pride. He is the reason i stayed in the Corps these 13 years and i will never forget everything he taught me as a Marine and as a man. I was deployed to Iraq when a fellow Marine called me on the green gear who also new Major Zembiec and told me we had lost another hero in the Corps and i new right away who he was talking about.
The Major was a true hero! I was at Arlington the day he was buried. I was buring my uncle who served in the Air Force for 38 years. I have never seen the love fro a Marine that day, I myself am a Marine, although my time serving was years back, I have been to Major Zembiec grave site every time I go to DC, as one Marine officer who went thru the Naval Academy with him said and I quote" Doug was a Marines's Marine" Well Said!
I served under Major. Zembiec during the battle of Fallujah the bravest man I have ever known. For now he is in the halls of valhalla where the brave live forever.
Do you think he cared about that? Do you think that he cared about every single fucking hadji he looked at wanted him dead? No. He was just concerned about making sure that his boys got out alive and home to their families in one piece. That is why he is at Arlington, that is why he got all the honors and tributes he deserved. So yes, sir, I do believe Major Douglas Zembiec died defending something, something honorable and noble. He died defending his fellow Marines.
a modern day achilles... Maj. Zembiec was a hero. i served with 2/1 during the fallujah campaign. the stories of echo co. and zembiec still are told by the men with great reverence. R.I.P sir.
No man, I was a doc with security platoon. Unfortunately I had to follow the BC and smaj around. You guys were so lucky to have such a great leader. The corpsman I know from Echo revered him.
I served with Echo 2/7 and just wanted to say that the video was great and a good way to remeber a good man. I dont know any of them but thanks for the video it makes us remember the Marines next to us who never made it back and who they were. Thanks
wow, there are days that i dont believe in god, then there are things like this that remind me that god lives in all of us, some more than others. I feel gratitude for not only him but all of those that he represents. may this bring light to the forgotten. love and respect - Becca
@krimlin85 That is the most ignorant thing. You've never met this man! He is my hero! I wish I could of met him but he still is my hero!

I had the pleasure and honor of serving with this man when he was a CO for Echo 2/1. I was a Corporal in Fallujah at the time and he motivated the hell out of me and all of his Marines. I was heart broken to hear of his death on his next tour. An outstanding leader and Marine.

God bless the Marines.

May God Bless you Doug!

I served under Major. Zembiec during the battle of Fallujah the bravest man I have ever known. For now he is in the halls of valhalla where the brave live forever.

And when to Heaven's Gates he comes, to Saint Peter he will tell, "One more Marine reporting sir, I've served my time in Hell."

Who were you with bro. Echo, fox??? Did you know any of the Motor T guys?
jjvoodoo 2 years ago
No man, I was a doc with security platoon. Unfortunately I had to follow the BC and smaj around. You guys were so lucky to have such a great leader. The corpsman I know from Echo revered him.
