Explain to me why Rodimus couldn't go into the Matrix to find a cure for the plague. Granted, I know this was all done, because of all the whining done when Optimus got killed in the movie.

Apparently, kids needed psychiatric therapy, despite the promos saying for months that Prime was going to get killed.

@MCWAY1 I remember that first generation of transformers and seeing optimus shot in the series was normal so we always expected him to recover. But after years of transformers being on, and it being a kids cartoon never involving death, it took kids by surprise. The promo NEVER said he was going to die asshole but it did confirm that a planet would transform.

That's one promo. The others? "DOES PRIME DIE? Then who would lead the Autobots? And what is the secret of the monster planet?"

Then, there was "A monster planet devours everything in its path, while Optimus Prime and Megatron fight TO THE DEATH!"?

Add to that a new RODIMUS PRIME toy.......Do the math, Einstein!!! The promos telegraphed Optimus Prime's death.

@MCWAY1 Think about how old we are now and how old we were then. When I was a kid all I knew was transformers was having their first movie and yes the question does prime die? That's the only promo I understood way back then so maybe you are a LOT older than me which is why it was more clear. Or you probably looked up that old promo recently and decided to talk shit about it. Thanks for calling me genius. Peace.

@versatility357 I was 13, when this movie hit theaters. I was nearly 14 when I got to see it (renting it from Blockbuster and on TV).

I knew then that Optimus Prime was going to get killed. I saw all the promos, including the one about Prime and Megatron fighting to the death. What shocked me was that it was so one-sided, with the Autobots getting killed left and right.

For most of the movie, the only Decepticon casualty was due to "friendly fire" (i.e. Galvatron, killing StarScream).

@MCWAY1 It's just as I thought. You were more knowledgeable back then because you were way older than I was. I was 7 years old and you were a teenager. So it was common sense for you at that point that prime actually would die but it's not for a kid ya know.. I'm glad I was too young to understand the promo completely.

I was surprised too that the Autobots were dieing so easily so it made the movie feel even more serious but I did remember being happy that Starscream got obliterated.

I believe this was the last G1 episode in Japan. They got it right and the American version got it wrong ending its series with the Headmasters saga, which was a build up to nothing.
